@unworthyservant Hi. Thanks for your concern. But I started this thread to celebrate the older hymns. They are available in the public domain for free. You don't even have to get permission to print the lyrics. There is no money-making involved.

They are the ones I grew up singing as a child in church. :)The lyrics of hymns are beautiful and rich in doctrinal truth. The idea is to meditate upon them and honor the Lord. The purpose of this thread is to lift up the Name of Jesus Christ.

Perhaps you have one you would like to add so we can ponder on the words and praise the Lord?

Oh. I know and I wasn't speaking to you directly. I simply decided that it was a good place to post a general comment on those who are making "Gospel" music and big profits singing and selling it. I've checked and from what I can see none of these groups or publishers is doing anything other than making themselves money. I can't find one that even tells where all the profits from their music goes but I noticed that none are registered as a non profit so as to take advantage of the tax laws if they are indeed using the money to do God's will.

I gave my life to thee
My precious blood I shed
That thou might ransomed be

And quickened from the dead

I gave, I gave my life for thee
What hast thou given for me?
I gave, I gave my life for thee
What hast thou given for me?

My father's house of light
My glory circled throne
I left for earthly night
For wandering, sad alone

I left, I left it all for thee
Hast thou left all for me?
I left, I left it all for thee
Hast thou left all for me?

I sufferred much for thee
More than thy tongue can tell
Of bitterist agony
To rescue thee from hell

I've borne, I've borne it all for thee
What hast thou borne for me?
I've borne, I've borne it all for thee
What hast thou borne for me?

And I have brought to thee
Down from thine home above
Salvation full and free
My pardon and my love

I bring, I bring rich gifts to thee
What hast thou brought for me?
I bring, I bring rich gifts to thee
What hast thou brought for me?

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer

Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Jesus is all the world to me:
  My life, my joy, my all.
He is my strength from day to day;
  Without Him I would fall.
When I am sad, to Him I go;
No other one can cheer me so.
When I am sad, He makes me glad;
  He's my Friend.

Jesus is all the world to me,
  My Friend in trials sore.
I go to Him for blessings, and
  He gives them o'er and o'er.
He sends the sunshine and the rain;
He sends the harvest's golden grain:
Sunshine and rain, harvest of grain--
  He's my Friend.

Jesus is all the world to me,
  And true to Him I'll be.
Oh, how could I this Friend deny
  When He's so true to me?
Following Him I know I'm right;
He watches o'er me day and night.
Following Him by day and night,
  He's my Friend.

Jesus is all the world to me,
  I want no better friend.
I trust Him now; I'll trust Him when
  Life's fleeting days shall end.
Beautiful life with such a Friend;
Beautiful life that has no end!
Eternal life, eternal joy,
  He's my Friend.

Love hymns. I collect hymn books, i like traditional old hymns msinly. Charles Wesley etc. I used them as prayers in private quiet devotion. They praise so much better than my inane babblings!

God leads Us Along

In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet,
God leads His dear children along;
Where the water’s cool flow bathes the weary one’s feet,
God leads His dear children along.

Refrain:
Some through the waters, some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
In the night season and all the day long.

Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright,
God leads His dear children along;
Sometimes in the valley, in darkest of night,
God leads His dear children along.

Though sorrows befall us and Satan oppose,
God leads His dear children along;
Through grace we can conquer, defeat all our foes,
God leads His dear children along.

Away from the mire, and away from the clay,
God leads His dear children along;
Away up in glory, eternity’s day,
God leads His dear children along.

 What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

(Matthew 10:29-31)

Don't be afraid
His eye is on the sparrow
You are in your father's care
Continually held in His gaze
Ever before His face

His Eye Is On The Sparrow

1 Why should I feel discouraged?
Why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely
and long for heaven and home,
when Jesus is my portion?
My constant friend is he:
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know he watches me;
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know he watches me.

Refrain:
I sing because I’m happy, (I’m happy)
I sing because I’m free, (I’m free)
for his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know he watches me.

2 “Let not your heart be troubled,”
his tender word I hear,
and resting on his goodness,
I lose my doubts and fears;
though by the path he leadeth
but one step I may see:
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know he watches me;
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know he watches me. [Refrain]

3 Whenever I am tempted,
whenever clouds arise,
when song gives place to sighing,
when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to him;
from care he sets me free:
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know he watches me;
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know he watches me. [Refrain]

I love that!

I’ve not heard of that hymn, but the lyrics are wonderful.

I read a verse yesterday that said “We can’t see Him, but He sees us.”

The lyrics to your hymn reminded me of it.

And I love the picture of that cute sparrow!

God bless,

Becky.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
