Yeah what a losing battle that would be... stand over the man’s casket and use his funeral to preach about homosexuals.

You don't have to preach against homosexuals. Just preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. Let God do the rest.

How can a gay man in that lifestyle get up on a stage and sing a gospel song?

What makes you think he is going to sing a gospel song?  They played my father's favorite country song at his funeral.

We as a body of believers must keep ourselves separate from those who are actively practicing sin and demanding thus the sin is acceptable by the practice...

So......we should kick all unrepentant sinners out of church in case they want to sit next to us.   I am not sure this is what Jesus would do.

If an unsaved person is glorifying living with unmarried girl or shows up drunk then refuse them too.

Doesnt the church have the right to refuse them?

We had a drunk person show up at our church one time. I also know that we have had people living together outside of marriage attend our church as well. Sure the church has every right to kick out whomever they want. But is that what Jesus would do?

When the scribes who were Pharisees saw Jesus eating with these people, they asked His disciples, “Why does He eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus told them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Mark 2:16-17

You all can do as you like. But in cases like this, I try to follow Jesus's example.  We need to stop being so afraid of people  so afraid of sinners.

Anyway, I think I said all I need to say on this topic. You all know where I stand.  Have a good night.

If a homosexual wants to participate in a true Bible believing Church and hear the words God has to say about the homosexual lifestyle that is ok. But many homosexuals go to a Church where the Pastor is homosexual and they distort the words of the Bible to say that homosexuality is accepted. God loves the homosexual and we are called to be kind to everyone. Although we are not to support their lifestyle.

I'm not so sure what the grounds were to cancel the funeral.  A straight man was going to be remembered in a funeral at the church of his choice.  His gay son was going to sing a song.

What am I missing?

This isn't like the baker asked to make a wedding cake for a gay couple including the cake topper with a same sex couple.  Creating that type of art that is for the purpose of celebrating a gay couple - the baker was within his rights to say no.

But this is the funeral of a straight man.

Is there more to this story.

Totally agree with you. Honestly I'm still trying to understand.

This is the song...

Lyrics
I have journeyed through the long dark night
Out on the open sea, by faith alone
Sight unknown; and yet His eyes were watching me
The anchor holds
Though the ship is battered
The anchor holds
Though the sails are torn
I have fallen on my knees as I face the raging seas
The anchor holds in spite of the storm
I've had visions, I've had dreams
I've even held them in my hand
But I never knew they would slip right through
Like they were only grains of sand
The anchor holds
Though the ship is battered
The anchor holds
Though the sails are torn
I have fallen on my knees as I face the raging seas
The anchor holds in spite of the storm
I have been young but I'm older now
And there has been beauty these eyes have seen
But it was in the night, through the storms of my life
Oh, that's where God proved His love for me
The anchor holds
Though the ship's been battered
The anchor holds
Though the sails are torn
I have fallen on my knees as I face the raging seas
The anchor holds in spite of the storm
I have fallen on my knees as I face the raging seas
The anchor holds in spite of the storm

I saw this in the news today and Im curious what you all think.

A man, I will call him fred, is dying and wishes to have 1) his funeral at the church he first attended and 2) have his son sing at the funeral. The son, jesse, made arrangements with the church for the funeral. The church later found out that the son will have his fiance with him. The fiance is another man. The church, a baptist church, canceled the funeral.

There is some dispute about whether or not they outright canceled it or asked that the fiance not attend. Regardless, there is a huge backlash against the church and I suspect this could end up going to court. Which would mean that churches may lose the right to have any say in what goes on at their churches.

Was the church correct in what they did?

Personally I think the church was correct to cancel the funeral.

I am probably not going to think this out real deeply, but the first thing that comes to me mind, is the church going to discriminate, or note on the invitations or whatever: "If your are a sinner, you are not welcome to attend!"
