How Dark Should A Jew Be?

I don't know where the OP is going with this topic but here might be a little contribution for what its worth.

David was ruddy in complexion, so there are Jews/Israelis who may be ruddy.  Remember that Abraham  was called out of the "Gentiles" (not that there was a distinction at the time though)...but he was called out of the world (type and ensample of the church). And so was Sarah....so I think we have to consider that the people who we know as Jews or Israelis have a racial background so to speak, from the world.  And that maybe they are not even really a separate race, but rather a people, since there are Semites in the middle east considered to be of the same race as Jews who are not Jewish/Israeli.  And also keep in mind that terms such as white, light and dark can be very relative and subjective terms or just poetic descriptions.

I looked up some scriptures about ruddy/white complexion.....but keep in mind that it is only an outward figure in scrpture written for the purpose of depicting inner purity of character and spirituality, not literal.  People of white/ruddy complexion are NOT spiritually superior to those who are darker complexioned.  Often the reverse is true if you ask me, especially nowadays when white peoples are becoming worse than pagans, like our ensample Israel of old did......but anyhow outward appearance and racial background matters not a whit to the Lord.

1Sa 16:12

And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

1Sa 17:42

And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.

Sng 5:10

My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.

Lam 4:7

Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire

 

The flesh profits nothing anyhow, and a Jew is a one who is a Jew inwardly.....meaning one who belongs to Christ.

The Jews were often lifted up in pride against Gentiles and many still are today....this is not pleasing to God, any more than churchgoers and believers who are lifted up in religious pride against the lost.

Ruddy does not indicate fair skin. Ruddy means reddish complected.

But I can bring up a few things Paul said which were not true.

Paul said and did some contradictory things.

He was proud of his 'bosting' & 'folly' and teaching against circumcision then having Timothy circumcised....I can go on if you like.

Sorry, I might have missed something but I still don't understand the reason behind your OP or whether you were trying to make a point of some kind...?

There are things in scripture that appear to be contradictory but aren't really.  The example of Paul having Timothy circumcised when elsewhere he preached against circumcision.....i believe thankfully can be resolved.  Paul was preaching against circumcising out of a belief that it is required by God, since it is no longer required under the new covenant....he was talking in the context of being circumcised as a work of the Law,  and in the context of those who were trying to make Gentiles get circumcised.  But it is not a sin in itself to be circumcised..... and so Paul had Timothy circumcised out of expediency in the interests of the gospel, so as to not offend unbelieving Jews unnecessarily, since Timothy's mother was a Jew which made Timothy a Jew according to scripture and in the eyes of other Jews.....it isn't as if Paul was trying to make a Gentile get circumcised.  And he didn't do it from a wrong belief that God requires it of a believer, or to avoid being persecuted by the Jews.....but only for the sake of expediency so as to not put an unnecessary stumbling block in the way of Jews coming to faith, where Paul and Timothy were evangelizing together.  Hope that makes sense and puts your mind at ease on that, and if you want to bring other things that appear contradictory, maybe we can look at them to see if the Lord will help us resolve those as well...if you want, we can try.

God looks at hearts.   He's not so observant of skin color.

If you go to Israel, you'll see Jews with blonde hair and light skin, and you'll see Ethiopian jews who are very dark skinned.

Also, there is a lot of theological JUNK on the internet.  A lot of it is cut and pasted and posted on this Forum.    And there is just as much on Cable Television.

The best way to protect yourself from being mislead by people or by infomercials, that can teach really wild nonsense about the bible, Jesus, ect, is to just find out where the person, or the program got their information.

The source is always the problem, if there is a problem.

I believe the term for ruddy in the Collins English Dictionary refers to be more than simply rosy cheeks. The reason for using this source for accuracy, is due to the KJV having the word in several scriptures as a overall description for appearance.
