How come?

When people in poor countries have large numbers of children, they end up with families they cannot afford to feed. When everyone does this, they end up with population growth which their economies cannot support.

The solutions are: either wealthy nations must pour in huge amounts of aid to sustain this growth, or the people must plan families with fewer children so less resources are needed to feed themselves.

Otherwise many will starve to death.

Definitely not a joke. Live 8 is all about alot of people getting together, watching probably the best concert of all time, where everyone is in favour of the G8 leaders ending poverty in Africa.

Um, I waited, like you said. But I still couldn't follow the logic of your argument.

As it happens my parents do believe in planned parenthood. I am the oldest of 4 children; after which my parents decided they'd had quite enough and took medical steps to ensure that they would have no future offspring.

As you can see I am still very much "around".

Live 8 was not a fundraiser! It was about awareness not money.

The Live 8 concerts were free and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis (there was quite a furore when people tried to sell tickets on ebay; the auctions were soon withdrawn).

The funding for the gigs came from the sale of TV and DVD rights; profits from DVD royalties will be donated to the Make Poverty History campaign. (Although I believe given the fierce bidding that EMI will make some kind of profit from the DVD sales).

I am almost certain that Bob Geldof's pockets are amongst the emptiest in showbusiness.

I may have misunderstood the references on this thread to "planned parenthood" - I was unaware of the organisation of that name which condones abortions and the morning after pill. I am of course opposed to these things (how can something you can't do until after the event be called "planning", anyway?!?!), however I am in favour of the use of contraception and education on family planning.

in my opinion, if you want to give money to people or organisations overseas, i recomend you go through someone you really do trust.
