Just curious.....anybody here remember the very controversial song, “ They’re Coming To Take Me Away, Ha Ha”...........The flip side of that hit was a  Masterpiece! See if you can get it on You Tube!

Yes, I had that album, by Napoleon, as I recall. The other song that I recall, if memory serves from that album, was "Bats in My Belfry" There as also an Album by Allen Sherman, called My Son the Nut. It had quite a few, but that  famous one was "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah (maybe not spelled like that).

Oh, yeah. 'Camp Granada', right? I remember that one. Big hit here. We got a kick out of this and many other comical songs. There were so many of them during the 1960's. I've got a number of them off the top of my head. We'll talk later.

  1. Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh!

    Hello Muddah, hello Faddah
Here I am at Camp Grenada
    Camp is very entertaining
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining

I went hiking with Joe Spivey
    He developed poison ivy
    You remember Leonard Skinner
He got Ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner

All the counsellors hate the waiters
    And the lake has alligators
And the head coach wants no sissies
So he reads to us from something called Ulysses

Now I don't want this should scare ya
    But my bunkmate has Malaria
    You remember Jeffery Hardy
They're about to organize a searching party

Take me home, oh Muddah, Faddah
Take me home, I hate Grenada
Don't leave me out in the forest where
I might get eaten by a bear

Take me home, I promise I will
Not make noise, or mess the house with
Other boys, oh please don't make me stay
I've been here one whole day

    Dearest Fadduh, darling Muddah
    How's my precious little bruddah
Let me come home if you miss me
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me

Wait a minute, it's stopped hailing
Guys are swimming, guys are sailing
    Playing baseball, gee that's bettah
Muddah, Faddah kindly disregard this letter

    Songwriters: Allan Sherman, Lou Busch

We have yet to mention The Who. What? No, The Who. Who what? Just The Who. They were a great rock 'n' roll band. And it just so happens today in 1969, they also released the very first rock opera ever composed. Double album, Tommy. This was a concept LP that paved the way for others to do the same. I loved the entire musical layout of it from beginning to the end.

There are some controversial aspects to it. Feel free to comment about that if you wish. I know the entire story behind it and also saw the star studded movie. The group appeared in it as did numerous British rock stars, actors and American ones as well. Eh, I wasn't all that crazy about it, personally for a number of reasons. Leader of the group, Roger Daltrey appeared as the starring role of Tommy.

Tommy (The Who album) - Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_(The_Who_album)

Tommy is the fourth studio album by the English rock band The Who, a double album first released in May 1969. The album was mostly composed by guitarist Pete Townshend, and is a rock opera that tells the story of Tommy Walker, a "deaf, dumb and blind" boy, including his experiences with life and his relationship with his family.

The Who came out with their first Top 40 Hit in 1967, I Can See For Miles. It took America by storm and was very popular, leaning towards psychedelia. I thought it was brilliant, but I like this sort of genre for the imaginativeness about the style. Of course, The Who had been hugely successful in England for a few years, we here in the US hadn't heard of them until this song hit the airwaves.

Followed by the lovely song Pictures Of Lilly, Substitute, Happy Jack, I Can't Explain, My Generation, and many more following the release of Tommy two years later. Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again, Getting In Tune, Bargain, Love Ain't For Keeping, The Kids Are Alright, Who Are You, And one of my all time favorites, Join Together in 1972. Fantastic!

Also in 1972, The Who recorded and released their second rock opera, Quadrophenia. Yeah, it was tremendous. Pete Townsend had matured as a performer and composer. This is also a quintessential double album and masterpiece. The guys were at the top of their game. Roger Daltrey was in great voice here, Keith Moon's percussions were thrilling, and John Entwistle's bass playing was superb.

Donovan Phillips Leitch. A good many of you probably never heard the last name of this Scottish folk singer and musician. Donovan stayed true to his roots and remained there. Well, he also took a side avenue for a year or so and also recorded some psychedelia. During 1966-1968, so many artists felt the need to go with the trends and explore the new sounds of predated electronica in the recording studio. And Donovan did the same. I loved these tunes then and still admire them. A lot of thought and effort went into this and it's quality all around. Eventually, the folk returned and lacked no loss. Donovan was tremendous.

When he came to America, the first hit I remember was, Catch The Wind. Lovely song. Donovan did most of his own compositions, but also recorded covers as his other folk friends had. Let me name my favorites. Just a brief mention before I do. Donovan was good friends with The Beatles, Paul McCartney in particular. I have a bootleg cassette tape of the two of them recorded at Paul and Linda's farm in Scotland. It's pretty amusing as they shared a few dittys with one another. And Donovan asked Paul to play the chord structure of Blackbird, from The White Album. Here are the fondest Donovan songs I've enjoyed so well.

Catch The Wind

Colours

Universal Soldier

Happiness Runs

Jennifer Juniper

Wear Your Love Like Heaven

Lalena

There Is A Mountain

Atlantis

Sunshine Superman

Mellow Yellow

Hurdy Gurdy Man

Candyman

Riki Tiki Tavi

Hey Gyp

Jersey Thursday

Josie

The Little Tin Soldier

Sunny Goodge Street

I Love My Shirt

Barabajagal

Superlungs My Supergirl

Season Of The Witch - yeah I know

To Susan On The West Coast Waiting - (From Andy In Vietnam Fighting)

Cosmic Wheels - This is the last hit song to make the FM airwaves I can remember.

I had a wonderful double album specially packaged for the United States called, Donovan P. Leitch. In it were some rare mixes of his older material we had little exposure to here. A lot of his most classic folk tunes never before heard. Remastered in superb stereo from the original monaural recordings. It went out-of-print almost immediately. You can still get used copies from eBay, but expect to pay premium prices for it. I've yet to see a CD version of it. If I ever do though, place that directly into my internet shopping cart. It's a masterpiece of some of Donovan's best material.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
