The perfect has yet to come, so there's no scriptural basis for the cessation of the gifts of the Spirit. God does as He pleases; He answers to no man or woman and moves as He wills. It's important to remember that the gifts of the Lord are His to give as He pleases, thus they are not our own to do as we see fit. 

After the Spirit of the Lord came and reversed the illness which nearly took my life, He remained with me. During the years of my recovery His Spirit taught me how to speak and reason again. It was during this time that the Lord taught me to listen to His voice. I marvel at the manifest wisdom of God for there was no better time for me to learn than while my mind was a chaotic mess. I experienced great difficulty focusing but the voice of His Spirit was always the same: calm and peaceful like still waters. 

When my healing was complete according to His promise, Christ lifted me up and baptized me with His Spirit. It was like a great wind of fire washing over me, and in that moment I was changed.

At no time did I ask the Lord for gifts, CaptWalker. I heard the words of the Lord and He spoke of things which would come to pass; in this way I learned first-hand that the Son of God is faithful and true for I witnessed the fulfillment of His words with these eyes. 

Christ promised that I would never walk in darkness again. It pleases Him to reveal His will as He sees fit:  when the Lord sent me to this city, He spoke of everything that would come to pass before I set foot on the property where I work. The Lord said I would find favor in their midst, and that He would give me a place to rest my head for a while. 

Every word from the mouth of God is fulfilled. Every one.

I believe that the gifts of the Spirit are for today, but it isn't necessary (let alone critical) to have a particular gift. I often pray in tongues but have never prophesied. Paul says that not everyone speaks in tongues and not everyone has the gift of prophecy (I Corinthians 12:29-30). So you can be baptised in the Spirit without ever doing either. The Spirit will give you the gift(s) that He determines. Of course you can ask for particular gifts, but you won't necessarily get them!

Not to derail this more specific thread's line of questioning...

I would like to pause for a moment to consider this point:

Man (people) is forever telling others to think like they think,

believe what they believe, do what they do, say what they say,

etc. etc.

But ALL that ONLY matters is what GOD says.

John 3:16-18 = belief versus unbelief

Ephesians 2:8-10 = belief alone

John 16:27 = belief and love

John 6:29 = belief

Romans 1:16 = believe

When man (people) add to this, just ignore them.

The Bible teaches the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is by Christ (Matthew 3:11) in contrast to his baptism with fire.

Baptism by the Holy Spirit (saved)

Baptism by fire (condemned).

Since we have the Scripture that tells us when [BOTH] knowledge and Tongues will cease, and we see KNOWLEDGE via internet is evident today like Daniel and Paul claimed, can you tell me when [BOTH] Knowledge and Tongues have "Ceased?"

If you have not, then KNOWLEDGE is still active, which means, so is [Tongues]!

Also, it is nobler in God’s sight to believe without needing a miracle. Jesus visited the Samaritans, and “because of his words many more became believers” (John 4:41, emphasis added). Just a few verses later, Jesus rebukes the Galileans: “Unless you people see miraculous signs and wonders . . . you will never believe” (John 4:48). Unlike the Samaritans, the people of Galilee required signs and wonders.

2. Some people seek after signs and wonders because they do not believe the signs and wonders which have already been performed. The Pharisees of Matthew 12 were just such a lot. Jesus had been performing miracles for quite some time when a group of scribes and Pharisees came to Him with an insolent demand to see another sign. In response, Jesus condemned them as “wicked and adulterous” (Matthew 12:38-39).

They were “wicked” in that they refused to believe the signs and wonders Christ had already performed. “In spite of his wonders, they did not believe” (Psalm 78:32). Their hearts were hardened towards the truth, even after numerous public miracles. Nothing would make them believe; their hearts were as pharaoh’s, hardened after witnessing so many of Moses’ miracles in Egypt (Exodus 9:34-35).

They were “adulterous” in the spiritual sense, having left the true worship of God to follow a man-made set of rules and traditions. Not satisfied with the miracles Jesus was doing, they demanded something even greater. As commentator Matthew Barnes puts it, “They looked for signs of their own devising.” So entrenched was their rejection of Christ that, when later presented with the “sign of the prophet Jonah” (Christ’s resurrection, Matthew 12:39-40), they still would not believe.

3. Some people seek after signs and wonders because they seek an occasion to excuse their unbelief. There were people in Jesus’ day who “tested” Him by seeking a sign (Matthew 16:1; Luke 11:16). Since they specified that the sign be “from heaven,” they most likely wanted something spectacular, similar to Elijah’s calling down fire from the sky (1 Kings 18:38) or Isaiah’s causing the sun to reverse course (Isaiah 38:8). Probably, their “test” was designed to be something “too big” for Jesus to accomplish—they simply hoped He would attempt it and fail in the attempt.

4. Some people seek after signs and wonders because they are curious thrill-seekers. Like the crowds in John 6:2 and King Herod in Luke 23:8, they want to see something sensational, but they have no real desire to know the truth of Christ.

5. Some people seek after signs and wonders because they hope to get something for themselves. After Jesus fed the multitudes, a large crowd followed Him to the other side of Galilee. Jesus saw their true motivation, however, and rebuked it: “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill” (John 6:26). The crowd’s desire was not to know Christ or even to see more miracles; it was simply to fill their stomachs again.

Better than seeking after a new miracle is taking God at His Word. Simple faith is more pleasing to the Lord than a reliance on a dazzling sensory experience. “Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed’” (John 20:29).

If they could have denied the miracle they would have but they could not for it was evident to the senses -not today however... or the children hospitals would be emptied out!

You are talking a direct contact between demons/their Creator.

 

Yeah, that WILL NEVER happen again until Armageddon, and then it's face to face in battle!

 

The possessed was brought to GOD in PERSON.   God is no longer walking the Earth in PERSON where we are able to approach Him.   Therefore, one cannot fulfill Your Scripture reference in Matthew.   So obviously, what you say is TRUE, but not in the CONTEXT you was hoping for!

The greatest miracle of all was the Lord rising from the dead, appearing to many, and then ascending to sit at the right hand of our Father. 

The Christian faith springs from miracles. God sent His only begotten Son to be born to a woman under the Law so that He would redeem us from the penalty of the Law; there is no other by whom we are saved than Jesus Christ; His resurrection from the dead is the promise and hope of our salvation. 

God dwells with us, yet another miracle. Christ sent the Holy Spirit into the world to convict the ungodly of their unbelief and as a Comforter to those who believe in the One whom our Father sent. We baptize with water, but the Son of God baptizes with fire and Spirit. 

Miracles abound. So much for "gotquestions." That site has its uses but theology isn't their forte.
