When a person wants to do something for the Lord regardless what that something is should that person wait on God or proceed to do it? Should we wait on God or as some say "You can't steer a parked car."?

Berean,

The Bible has many examples of what members of the Body are to do or be like. Maybe some more detail concerning what to "do something," means? For example, when the church service has ended, offering to help clean up should not be a "waiting" on God to do this type of "something."

Also, something to consider. Each person has abilities and skills and to offer these by volunteering for events or various positions may also be "something" where waiting is not needed in effort to "do" something at church, work, community, etc.

I think that is question with a difficult answer. We should always be walking with God - in constant prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17). But it takes time learning to understand what the Lord is saying to us.

When we are in contant prayer, we have an idea of what the Lord wants and what he doesn't want. From there we use our best judgment.

David wanted to build the temple and started to make preparations, only to be told it wasn't his job.

If one has an ambition to serve get started, God will use or redirect that ambition.

This would be one of those A.S.K. scenarios as follows:

Ask - and you shall receive (Warning, Yes/No, Stop/Go, Either/Or, Free choice)

Seek - and you shall find (information, confirmation, affirmation, revelation, motivation, faith)

Knock - and the door shall be opened unto you (opportunity to grow spiritually)

Waiting on God?

Yes, we need to rest and bide in Jesus Christ (Psalm 37:7).

I would think it not possible to answer that for all situations.   However in most instances it has been my experience that if God doesn't want it done, I will fail to get it done.  And at that time I simply say OK and go on to something else.   and occasionally he has me do things that I really would perfer not to do.....    but in my 74 years I have learned not to say no and just do it.

Pray to God for direction. Wait and see where God leads you.

The person needs to seek in Christ what is His will (through prayer) and, then, proceed to do what He enjoined us.
