Revelation 3:12

King James Version

12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

I missed this in my prior readings. Anyone have ideas on what this means?

The seven promises of the Lord from the book of Revelation are astonishing to study on their own, my friend. It is best to consider them together as a contiguous whole, which completes the image which scripture imparts to us. Here they are:

The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will grant to eat from the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God. (Revelation 2:7 NASB)

The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death. (Revelation 2:11 NASB)

The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows except the one who receives it. (Revelation 2:17 NASB)

The one who overcomes, and the one who keeps My deeds until the end, I will give him authority over the nations; and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are shattered, as I also have received authority from My Father; and I will give him the morning star. The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 2:26-29 NASB)

The one who overcomes will be clothed the same way, in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 3:5-6 NASB)

The one who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name. The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 3:12-13 NASB)

The one who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat with My Father on His throne. The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 3:21-22 NASB)

A "name" in the scriptural context means so much more than letters or an identifier, brother. A name imparts authority... power... blessing... and is in effect much like a mantle (clothing) one wears. In this case, we are considering a mantle which the Lord Himself places upon our shoulders. Taken in context with those seven promises of the Lord, then, His name and accordingly the new name He gives to us speaks of the truth that we shall sit upon His throne with Him. In fact, according to the scripture given to us by the apostle Paul, we are already seated with the Lord!

What this imparts to me is fullness, which we do not walk in at this time. Name = authority/power/blessing/office/raiment. :)

I would write more, but work beckons.

Yes. Quite so. This is something I am delving into in my meditations. Lots to unpack here. In a nutshell, we are not passive observers. Heaven is not a holiday. Much work will be done by those who enter. Much work.

While you are pondering, may I suggest you also ponder on what is meant in Revelation 19:11-13

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.  His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself.  He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

There is also a name that no one will know but Jesus.

God as I see God is immutable. The Alpha and Omega. His spirit, essence, unchanging, the same yesterday, today, for eternity.

In the Old Testament, OT, God was known as "I AM", Jehovah, etc... In the New Testament, NT, God was Emmanuel, "God with us", Yeshuah, Jesus, Christ.

While God's names changed at different stages of his power and plans in both Testaments Holy Spirit God remained the same.

Maybe in Revelation what he's referring to is his new name after the final plans go through.

Blessings, I find the scripture intriguing, for as you mentioned God is immutable, can’t get more or less always remains the Eternal All..

Seeing how He is the Eternal One how can a name be greater than the Eternal love, patience, kindness, fill in the blank..

How can His new name be greater still?

I know it’s scripture, so therefore true, will be interesting to find out what it is..

Be blessed in finding out, Not me

One might need to look into what His real name is and what it means first. His real name is Yeshua (which means YeHoVah's (Yah's) Salvation). Once we are in the millennial kingdom His name may change to YeHoVah Has Saved?

The Bible mentions other names/title for Jesus such as Immanuel and Michael. Compare Isaiah 9:6

But this unstated “name” appears to stand for the descriptive or representative for his new position, privileges and duties that Jesus will indentified during the Lord ’s Day.  Compare Philippians 2:9-10; Revelation 2:17; 19:12.

Note that God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, Sarai’s name to Sarah and Jacob’s name to Israel. (Genesis 17:5, 15; 32:28)  All were for specific characteristics or representative for a grander purpose.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
