Rebuilding New Orleans

I've heard talk about rebuilding New Orleans. I've heard recent talk on the news about turning the whole area into a massive landfill and then building on top of it which would hopefully be more than 6 feet higher ground.

I'm not so sure we should rebuild the city. I mean....we haven't even rebuilt the World Trade Center yet....and that's just a few city blocks. We're talking about an entire metropolitan area....an area that has been almost completely deserted. In a country that is already under severe national debt. Most of the evacuees coming to our area would love to live in our area...as I'm sure a majority will most likely set root in whatever area they were evacuated to...especially as the recovery drags out for a year or more. Can't we just cut our losses and allow that area to redevelop naturally instead of pouring any more tax dollars into it than neccessary for clean up?

I'm not against the idea of rebuilding....but I'm questioning the logic of it at this point and would like to hear everyone else's thoughts on this.

No question the city should be rebuilt. It has more culture than any other city.

I have to agree with you.

But about Culture, I don't know what you mean by that......?

I'd say Washington D.C had more culture than NO.

Maybe that's only historically wise.

When God judges a city or place it is presumptuous to try to rebuild it. Think of what happened to the one who rebuilt Jericho. (Jos 6:26, 1 Ki 16:34) The spirit of New Orleans was not godly. God is giving those who were trapped in New Orleans because of circumstances of poverty a new chance to start over and rebuild their lives in a more positive environment. The new city would attract simply those who enjoyed the decadence of it. I should think that we as a country ought to be repenting rather than trying to figure out ways to rebuild what God destroyed.

I think it should be rebuilt. There are ports that need to be accessible and roadways, not to mention the oil rigs. The levees will have to be greatly improved and the pumping systems.

Perhaps they could limit building close to the gulf and outlying areas. I think it could create an economic boom in the states involved. Just one problem,

who will pay for it all?
