If we read the 139 psalm David tells us that the law was given for our benifit. A good parent does not want their child to harm themselves. God encourages us to live right and do what is right. So we can reap the benifits. He says choose, life, health, prosperity and so on. We are all sad when people make the wrong choices and we know they will suffer the consequences.

I am beyond surprised people here have such anxiety about it. If you people think it's petty or stupid then don't do it. You're not Jewish and therefore your opinions on our laws don't mean much.

 

Unfortunately, this topic doesn't seem to have had ANY discussion at all on Isaiah 53!

Regardless as to the reasons why everything went left, I would like to suggest that we might focus on the first 3 verses of Isaiah 53 (below).  If any feels they might like to make some changes to these verses then they should do so before offering their interpretation.

So, who is Isaiah talking about here? And please try and provide your thoughts that support your conclusion.

 

1Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

Before we return to Isaiah 53 I want to comment on the use of "G-d" to refer to God the Father.  The Jews consider God to be so holy that one shouldn't even use His name, thereby making Him so holy that He can't b approached.  Compare this to what Jesus said...

Mark 9:36-37, " He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes^[a] one of these little children in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

Mark 10:13-14, " Now people were bringing little children to him for him to touch, but the disciples scolded those who brought them. But when Jesus saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."

1 John 4:4, "You are from God, little children, and have conquered them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." (and other references in 1 John)

 

Mark 14:36, "He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Take this cup away from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”  Jesus used this Aramaic term of endearment, equivalent to "Daddy".

Romans 8:15, "For you did not receive the spirit of slavery leading again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Galatians 4:6, "And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, who calls “Abba! Father!”

 

Clearly, under the New Covenant, since we have been adopted as God's own children, we can address Him as our Abba.  We shouldn't hang onto the attitude of fear, being afraid to even mention God's name.

Clearly, Isaiah 53 refers to the Savior, Jesus Christ.  There are just too many statements to believe that it could refer to any other person.

Who would have believed what we just heard?
When^[was the Lord’s power revealed through him?
² He sprouted up like a twig before God,
like a root out of parched soil;
he had no stately form or majesty that might catch our attention,
no special appearance that we should want to follow him.^[
   He was despised and rejected by people,
one who experienced pain and was acquainted with illness;
people hid their faces from him;
he was despised, and we considered him insignificant.

   But he lifted up our illnesses,
he carried our pain;
even though we thought he was being punished,
attacked by God, and afflicted for something he had done.
   He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds,
crushed because of our sins;
he endured punishment that made us well;
because of his wounds we have been healed.
   All of us had wandered off like sheep;
each of us had strayed off on his own path,
but the Lord caused the sin of all of us to attack him.
   He was treated harshly and afflicted,
but he did not even open his mouth.
Like a lamb led to the slaughtering block,
like a sheep silent before her shearers,
he did not even open his mouth.
   He was led away after an unjust trial—
but who even cared?
Indeed, he was cut off from the land of the living;
because of the rebellion of his own people he was wounded.
   They intended to bury him with criminals,
but he ended up in a rich man’s tomb,
because he had committed no violent deeds,
nor had he spoken deceitfully.
   Though the Lord desired to crush him and make him ill,
once restitution is made,
he will see descendants and enjoy long life,
and the Lord’s purpose will be accomplished through him.
   Having suffered, he will reflect on his work,
he will be satisfied when he understands what he has done.
“My servant will acquit many,
for he carried their sins.
   So I will assign him a portion with the multitudes,
he will divide the spoils of victory with the powerful,
because he willingly submitted to death
and was numbered with the rebels,
when he lifted up the sin of many
and intervened on behalf of the rebels.”

There is no person to whom this can possibly refer other than Jesus Christ.  If it isn't believed by the people of the Old Covenant, that is because God has clearly blinded them until the appropriate time.

Before anyone decides that I am anti-Semitic, know this: I am a Jew by birth and was Bar Mitzvah at age 13.  I became a Christian at age 37, having been healed by Christ in the hospital, and have been a believer in Him since then. Praise be to God for His mercy!

Which is why they allow you to use the word: "Jews", even though it is a derogatory word. They would not want anyone to slander their proper name.  God means deity and it has nothing to do with an actual name for God. The scribes when they were going to write a name for God they had to wash and clean themselves first.
