Hi, I'd say no, that it is possible, using the analogy of the Parthenon Olympic race event to win, but do so in a manner not worth even a garland to put at the feet of the emperor. And so, I contend there might be a same exception to the guidance and illustration within the Bible analogy also.

Yes, an illustration that would have been apt when applied to the original hearers of the analogy.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

The crown of life mentioned by James is again tied in to enduring temptations, trials and tribulations. It is a crown of endurance, consistent with other promises for those who overcome...

Revelation 3:5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

The context for the crown of righteousness is that of accomplishment. Paul boldly claimed that he has finished his course and kept the faith. What intrigues me is this standard he mentions: "all them that love his appearing". This could be just two sides of a manifold truth, all pointing to the idea of a reward for the righteous, and a measure of glory attained. Notice he is less bold in laying claim to his crown in earlier letters.

Here you mention "he who overcomes," which is given as an exhortation to each of the 7 churches in Revelation. And it is said of the man-child in Revelation 12, "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony and the loved not their soul-life unto death."

I've been thinking quite a bit about overcoming these days and what that means.  To me, it is those of us who truly let Him operate in and through us - performing those works the Father wills.  It is by allowing His life to operate through us that we help in His building work ("I will build my church") discussed in 1 Corinthians chapter 3, which will receive the judging fire to see what is solid and will remain.  If we build according to His desire and will, what we build with (gold, silver, stone) will remain and we will be rewarded accordingly.  Is this not the crowns that are mentioned?

I see the crown as the "crowning achievement" of God's workmanship,

for those who abide, endure, and overcome. (The true measure of trust),

which is the evidence of a faith and a love unfeigned.

1 Timothy 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart,

and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

2 Co 6:6 By pureness, by knowledge, by long suffering, by kindness,

by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned,

1 Peter 1:

22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit

unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another

with a pure heart fervently:

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,

by the word of God, which lives and abides for ever.

Unfeigned=Sincere

HELLO MR M! Going back reading on what you asked... I think its clear we all get a crown for somethings. Its like there are many "books" in heaven. Anyway seems to me 1st Peter was talking to elders like one chief Shepherd and then elders as undershepherds. So 1st Peter 5 1-4 those elders will get a crown.

I posted this earlier, and will elaborate here.

Here Paul expresses that which to his mind is his highest achievement,

the salvation of others.

1 Thes 2:

19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing?

Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?

20 For you are our glory and joy.

Philippians 4:1 Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown,

so stand fast in the Lord, beloved.

Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,
And he who wins souls is wise.

Conceptual objects are real in as much as they exist.

The letters I have written are an example of this.

Words only have meaning because of the things they are associated with.

Hope you get my drift.

SOVEREIGNTY

This would be said of the sceptre.

https://www.blueletterbible.org/search/search.cfm?Criteria=sceptre&t=KJV#s=s_primary_0_1

Psalm 45:6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever;
A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.

Since the question specified "in the scriptures", rather than in the world,

we understand that God alone is sovereign, and that ones who wear the crown

do so at His discretion and approval., (and anointing).

One of my favorite Psalms

21:1 The king shall have joy in Your strength, O Lord;
And in Your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
2 You have given him his heart’s desire,
And have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah

3 For You meet him with the blessings of goodness;
You set a crown of pure gold upon his head.

4 He asked life from You, and You gave it to him—
Length of days forever and ever.
5 His glory is great in Your salvation;
Honor and majesty You have placed upon him.

6 For You have made him most blessed forever;
You have made him exceedingly glad with Your presence.
7 For the king trusts in the Lord,
And through the mercy of the Most High he shall not be moved.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
