Considering Suleiman’s restoration of Jerusalem in 1492; does Daniel’s Seventy weeks (Dan.9.24-27); teach a double 70 week prophecy

I've learned about a second decree of [Sultan Suleiman](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suleiman_the_Magnificent) to rebuild Jerusalem, which was engraved in stone in 1537-1542 AD.

I found this information in the book “Witnessing the end” by Dr. Christian Widener.

 

 

So I began to consider what Dr. Widener put forth.  

 

He said that Daniel 9:24-27 prophesy *does not call for an unfulfilled 70th week* that still needs to be fulfilled, as is commonly held, but that these verses have a double application to two separate decrees, and while the first 70 weeks set has been fulfilled, — the second set of 70 weeks has not, and, as I understand, we are now currently in the final week of the second set, or we soon will be.

With the information of this new decree as an anchor point. The nuance seems to accurately align with relevant biblical themes, and with historical, and current geopolitical events.  

 

I would like some feedback, suggestions, or comments, concerning my translation, if there are any apparent grammar violations, or any issues with my conclusion and over all approach to this interpretation?

 

King James: Dan.9.24.

> Seventy weeks are **determined** upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.  

 

Gesenius' Lexicon suggests, that the meaning of **H2852** is '*to cut, to divide*', while in translation we see the word '***determined***' being used. 

 

In light of the definition given above; below is my translation, using the exact ordering of the Masoretic Text (as given on the Bible tool app).

 

Dan.9.24: 

> there are H5921 עַל־ split H2852 נֶחְתַּךְ seventy H7657 שִׁבְעִים weeks H7620 שָׁבֻעִים; for the holy H6944 קָדְשֶׁךָ city H5892 עִיר (old Jerusalem); and your peoples H5971 עַמְּךָ rebellion הַפֶּשַׁע 6588; by restraining H3607 נֶחְתַּךְ the sin H2304 חַטָּאת ( 2 Thes. 2.6-7); and are marked out H2856 for the coming h935 punishment H5771, which is for purging H3722 cp. Dan.12.10).

 

And here is **my first question**: is it grammatically right to read that verse as such?

Here we have a seeming intended thought play, between a “separate” set of 70 weeks (70/70). Which is slightly veiled within the text (as will be shown below); and with a divided 70 weeks, which is what one would naturally conclude, in simply reading the “62” in the preceding passages (7+62+1).

 

 

The vision H2377, and its sealing up H2856 (Dan.12.4) are concerned with the age H5769 of righteousness H6664; and is when the holy H6944 of holies, H6944 will be anointed H4886 (Ez. 43-48).

 

This prophecy H530 (Dan.9.25) to some H4480 will be made understood H7919, and known H3045; that from **the building** H7919, **and restoration** H7725 from the word H1697, that went forth, 

H4161 a ruler H5057, who is to be anointed H4899 for Jerusalem H3389; there shall be the weeks H7620:

 

Here we are giving the two starting points, of the beginning of the two sets of the weeks (i.e the 70). The first 70 starts from the building in 459 B.C., and the second from the restoration of the wall, 1542.B.C.

 

“the ruler, anointed” is Cyrus whom God calls His anointed (Isa.45.1); and also applies to Suleman.

 

Seventy H7651 (cp. Gen.4.24), seven H7620 (cp.Ez.45.21), then they shall build H1129;

seventy Seven years from the decree of Cyrus 536 B.C., ends at 459 B.C., and is when the building of the city began.

 

The “sealing up” of the vision corresponds with the “ the this prophecy” that will be made understood and known, cp. Dan. 12.9-10; and 

should be read in verse 25;

 

 

And it shall be returned at H7725 the second H8147 (H8147 is rendered “second “ in Dan.2.1), sixty H8346; and anguished H6695, and diligence H2742 will be in their streets H7339 in those times H6296.

 

From the completion of Suleiman’s building of the wall, in 1542 A.D (+ 490 = 2032 A.D); unto “the second 60th week”, is 1962-69; and is when Jerusalem, the old city; the original Jerusalem, referred today as “east” Jerusalem; was returned under Jewish control, after the 6 day war 1967, giving confirmation that Suleiman’s restoration, is the starting point, and what is meant by the meaning of a divide between the building starting point of the first 70 weeks, and the restoration as a starting point of the second 70 weeks. **Also note that in 2011 the Egyptain Civil War began in reference to the Lords quote of Isa 19.2, in Mt. 24.7. Which began 3 weeks from 2032, and is a link to Dan.10.2 and the three weeks mentioned**. 

 

Dan. 9.26: Two H8147 and sixty H8346 weeks H7620 after H310; none לוֹ ( not numbered in the Heb.), but not being for H369 Messiah H4899, will be cut off H3722 (Acts.3.23). 

 

Here the 62 weeks, after the building of the city is implying the time arrival of the Messiah. 

 

For there will be corruption/ destruction H7843 for the holy H6924 city H5892 (the destruction of the Roman siege, Lk.21.20-24; A.D., 69-70 A.D.). (And a double application to the Dome of the rock, which says “God has no Son”.

 

And shall come H935 of the ruler H5057 the people H5971 with a flood H7858;

 

(i.e., Oct.7, 2023; Al-Aqsa “Flood” fullfilment, or first aspect of fullfilment; the Hamas-led attack; “the people” of Saladin, i.e., the ottoman kingdom, i.e., Islamic jihad).

Rev.12.11) for the week H7620; and a half H2677 of one H259 (Zech.10.6,12); and upon H5921 an offering H4503 of sacrifice H2077, He shall bring to an end H7673 abominations H8251; even upon wings H3671, intill H5704 the one who shall make desolate H8074, pours out that H5413 which is decreed H2782 for the consummation H3617 on it HH5921

 

The prevailing of the “week and a half of the following one" speaks of the prevailing of the people of Israel angaist their enemies (2018-2028); and is implying when Israel will lose their power (Dan.12.7). This is when the persuction will begin. Immediately After it begins, where the elect will be saved out of the time of the time of tribulation; Dan.12.1-3; Mt.24. 29-31; 2 Thes. 4. 15-17 ). Which will be around the middle period of the final week (2024-2031).

 

When the sufferings of Christ are filled up by His body (cp. Col.1.25); it is by this sacrificial service that God will cause the abominations end. This implies that it is by their sufferings, which must be fulfilled, before God’s wrath comes upon the world: 

 

Rev 6:10 “And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? v11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

 

“Upon an offering of sacrifice”, is when the body is caught up to God, soon after the tribulation begins; their sacrificial service, will result in God bringing to a end abomination, by the coming wrath of the day of the LORD (cp. Rev 12.10).

 

They will be saved out of the tribulation unto God, as an offering of sacrifice, unto Himself for the reconciliation of the cosmos, back under the dominion of His image corporate Col.1.15-22, 24; Dan12.1-3; Mt.24.21-22, 29-30; Eph.1.4; 18; 2.6-10; 5. 26-27; Rev.14.7).

 

At this time the woman (i.e. the persevered of Israel) will be persevered, being brought on “wings” to the wilderness, intill the full return of Christ, when he will bring full desolation upon the abomination.

 

When we turn to related passages in Daniel, we find the word "sacrifice" is not in the original; it only takes place in 9.27; and in all these other scriptures (Daniel 8:11-13; 11:31; 12:11); it was attempted by the translators to alline these verses, with Antiochus Epiphanies, by injecting the word "sacrifice" to the English translation. (Which in my opinion really throws us of from the authors intended meaning).

 

Here is an example: Dan.12.11 "And shall understand the wise continually H8548; that shall be removed H5493 (cp. Gen. 8.13) from the time H6265 of the desolation H8074 of abomination H825, that shall be given over H5414 1290 days (Cp. Rev.12.1-15).

 

So the wise will be removed; but the unwise are not, but they will be preserved in the wilderness, being carried on wings (Rev.12. 3-7, 14; Dan.12.10; Mt. 25.2).Then at the end of this final week, the battle of Armageddon will take place.

 

In summary, (which diferers from Dr. Widener); the first set of 70 weeks begin from the building of city in BC 459 (which was 77 yrs after the decreed of Cyrus, who was God’s anointed (Isa.45.1); and culminate with the first coming of the Messiah, His ministry to Israel, and ending the final week at His crucifixion; which resulted in the cutting off of the people, that are against Him, and the destruction of the holy city (Acts. 3.23; Rom. 11). Being that, they did not recognize the time of visitation (AD 70, Lk.19.42-44).

 

The second set of 70 weeks concern the return of old Jerusalem back under Jewish control; and a prevailing of the people of the covenant (that do not rebel, ie the departure); who during the time of anguish (i.e. the tribulation); are purified, and will turn to God in righteousness (Dan.12. 1, 10).

 

The vision and the prophecy culminate with the final return of Christ Jesus; who will destroy the beast kingdom, and establish His Kingdom upon the earth; bringing desolation to the abomination (Dan.2.44-45; 7:13-14, 27; cp. Acts.1.6)

One cannot accurately translate Hebrew from a lexicon of word-definitions alone, one must understand how Hebrew grammar ties it all together, especially with the tenses of the verbs. I understand your point, but can you find any in my translation, and give an example of the peticular construction of my rendering that does not take place any where else? Because a literal word for word rendering kinda matches exactly, I rendered 77, and gave the references to why, what do you think about that, anything wrong, it is linked to a kinda poem riddle Gen.4.24.

What do you think about how words are doubled and not translated, and wrongly numbered, look at my translation above, I have noted these things, I think a translation that skips words because it can't make them fit to there understanding is wrong, or I am I? Dan. 9.26: Two H8147 and sixty H8346 weeks H7620 after H310; none לוֹ, but not being for H369 Messiah H4899, will be cut off H3722 (Acts.3.23).

For there will be destruction H7843 for the sanctuary H6924, and the city H5892 (Lk.21.20-24; A.D., 69-70 A.D.).

The “week”; and the half of the following one, is implying when the elect will be saved out of the time of persecution (i.e., the time of tribulation) soon after it begins (Mt.24). Which will be around the middle period of the final week, “and will be lifted above” (i.e. the firmament), as a sacrificial offering, to God for their faithful selfless service (partaking in the ministery of the suffering servant, Eph.1.4; Col.1 24; Rom.8.17; 12.1 Rev.6.11; 14.11, 13; 2 Thes.1.7; Isa.26.19,21); then at the end of this final week, the battle of Armageddon will take place.

Found within the book “Witnessing the end” by Dr. Christian Widener; I learned of a second decree made by Sultan Suleiman in AD 1537-41, to rebuild Jerusalem; which is still engraved in stone, in Jerusalem today.

Being they did not recognize the time of visitation, which later resulted in the destruction of the city, and the sanctuary (AD 70, Lk.19.42-44). 

The second set of 70 weeks concern the return of Jerusalem back under Jewish control; and a strengthening of the people of the covenant. Who by God's empowering grace, will live righteous sacrifical lives, during the time of great tribulation (ie. Persuction) and will be lifted above (i.e the firmament); out of the time of tribulation;  and will be presented as an offering of sacrifice unto Himself (Eph.1.4; 2.6-10; 5. 26-27); and will result in the restoration of the Nation of Israel, back unto God (Isa.65.8-9, 13; cp. 49.5; 53.11; Acts.13.47; Rev.7.4, 9, 13).

Only these faithful ones will partake in the reward of the firstborn inheritance with Christ, at the time of the adoption (i.e, the placing of a Son, to his allotted firsborn inheritance; cp. Dan.12.2-3; Isa.60.12; 66.1; Ex.4.22). Which will take place when the faithful are saved out the tribulation (Dan.12.1); because they shared in the ministery of the suffering servant ( Eph. 1.18; 2.4-10; 5.27; Col. 1.12, 24; 3.8-11; Rom. 8.17, 23, 29; Rev.12:5; Dan.7.14, 18, 12.2-3, 8-9).

The vision and the the prophecy culminate with the final return of Christ Jesus; who will cleanse the holy place (cp Dan.8.14; Mt.21: 12; 24.38 ); by destroying the beast kingdom, in the establish His Kingdom upon the earth; bringing desolation to the abomination (Dan.2.44-45; 7:13-14, 27;  cp. Acts.1.6)

So I went and translated Dan.9.24-27; which seems to confirm this view. I traced out the words in Hebrew, and there are some words that have not been translated in the KJV, being doubled, even wrongly number. (See below)

I rendered every word in its original order, with the information of this new decree as an anchor point; and the nuance seems to accurately align with relevant biblical themes; and with historical, and current geopolitical events.

I would like to know your opinion of this view or the text, does it hold up? And if anyone has knowledge of Hebrew can help see if my rendering holds up with proper Hebrew grammar. What do you all think about the way the tranlation fits? I would like some peer review, as a confirmation that this text is actually teaching a double 70 weeks.

Dan.9.24: there are H5921 separate H2852 seventy H7657 weeks H7620; for the sanctuary H6944, and city H5892; and for your people H597, to end ולחתם the rebellion 6588; and to restrain H3607 iniquity H2304 ( 2 Thes. 2.6-7).

These sins H2304 ( חטאות is doubled in Heb., and not rendered in the A.V) will be brought to an end H2856 at the coming H935 punishment H5771; which will be for purging H3722, cp. Dan.12.10).

The vision H2377, and Its sealing up H2856 (Dan.12.4) are concerned with the age H5769 of righteousness H6664; and is when the holy H6944 of holies, H6944 will be anointed H4886 (Ez. 43-48).

This prophecy H530 (Dan.9.25) to some H4480 will be made understood H7919, and known H3045; that from the building H7919, from the restoration H7725 of the command H1697 that went forth from H4161 the ruler H5057, anointed H4899 of Jerusalem H3389; there shall be weeks H7620:

Then at the end of this final week, the battle of Armageddon will take place.

24“Seventy [e]weeks are determined
For your people and for your holy city,

This period covers 490 literal years beginning in 457 BC and will conclude in 33/34 AD. It is sectioned into 3 separate time elements of 7 weeks, 62 weeks and 1 week. The verses reveal all the physical elements, the Temple, the walls and the streets, etc., that will be completed within the first timed section of 49 years. This time section, the elements that will be restored are the responsibility of the Jews. They are also responsible for reinstating the feast days, the ceremonies, the Sabbatical cycles, etc. BEFORE THE END OF THE 69TH WEEK. Meaning, God has given them the specific time and those elements that must be restored. And the ONLY piece of furniture (element) that would not be fully restored BEFORE THE END OF THE 69TH WEEK would be the very first piece of furniture that was taken from the Holy of Holies by Jeremiah so the Babylonians could not take it with them -- that, of course was the Ark of the Covenant. God's plan of restoration after the Babylonian destruction was to restore everything  back the way it was before their exile. And the Jews completed their mission. The ONLY element that could not be restored by the Jews was the return of the Ark of the Covenant. Only God could provide His Presence in the Holy of Holies. Thus, on the very first day of the 70th week of  years, the Messiah would be baptized in the Jordan by John and God would call out to Him and declare He was anointed. Jesus would provide the presence of God as the final element to be restored.

This is why the 70 weeks were carved out with the one week ending in 33/34 AD. The last week was set aside by God for the return of the Ark and the beginning of His ministry on earth.

 

25“Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;
The [h]street shall be built again, and the wall,
Even in troublesome times.

Here we find the literal timing of the restoration of the physical elements, then the timing of the Prince (Jesus).  Within the first 49 years, the Jews would complete their mission, and after another 62 weeks of years, the Messiah will arrive on the Jordan to be baptized, and begin His ministry.

 

26“And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah shall [j]be cut off, but not for Himself;

Here Daniel is writing about the destruction of the Messiah. Verses 24 and 25 are both "restorative" verses, while 26 and 27 are both "destructive" verses. Thus, after the Messiah arrives (after the end of the 69th week, He will begin His ministry but AFTER THIS PERIOD (meaning the only / final/ last week of the prophecy remaining), He will be "cut off." And of course, His sacrifice is for all mankind who place their faith in Him.

And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood, 

And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

In the previous verse of 26, Daniel records the destruction of the Messiah. Here, heis recording the destruction of the physical elements that were restored after their return from Babylon. Notice, it is the "people" who will destroy the city and the sanctuary, not the prince. The city and the Temple and over 1 million Jews will be destroyed in 70 AD by the Roman army led by Titus. Consequently, they are the "people" that destroyed everything, however, they will become subject to the "prince" who is to come. He will come some 400 years later and is identified in Daniel as the little horn of Daniel 7 and 8. 


27Then he shall confirm a [k]covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.

The pronoun "He" is none other than the Messiah who will confirm the New Covenant mentioned in Jeremiah 31:31-34. He will sacrifice Himself for the sin of the world and establish a New Covenant with His people and all who accept Him as their Lord and Savior. Within this last set aside week of the prophecy, exactly 3.5 years after He began His ministry, He will be crucified, and as a result of His PERFECT sacrifice, it will bring an end to the sacrificial services and the offerings found within the Levitical system. Further, the Temple, the Sanctuary would no longer hold the presence of God within it. They, along with all the pieces of furniture, the sacred vessels, the first 4 feast days, etc., were fulfilled. They have served their mission within God's plan of salvation. 

Now, this might be a start at your interpretation and mine.... as you know, there are more than a few interpretations on these verses with most throwing the final 3.5 years of the last week some 2000 years into the future. But this "futurist" interpretation was intentionally constructed in the 16th century by the Jesuits who were commissioned by the RCC to develop an alternative interpretation that removed the title of the little horn from the papacy. But we can talk about anything in Daniel that you would like...

So I think on that fact alone, the whole subject needs a review, and deeper look into the text, the prophecy itself says its closed till the end, and some will understand, so I find it hard that the commonly most popular view, I have read, and seen to be right.

Are you saying that “it is closed to the end” means the meaning and interpretation is still unknown?

What verse(s) and why are you having problems with?

Should we look at one verse at a time and unpack it before moving on to the next?

What verse in 9:24-27 is telling you “it is closed up till the end?

Is it the verse in either Chapter 8 or 12? Because neither tell us these prophecies are to be sealed or closed up - not to be understood. They are to be sealed or closed up because: they are now complete, they are written for the Jews BEFORE the coming of their Messiah. “Gabriel, make him understand…” “I have come to make it known to you….”

Bible Nuggets, 

I would like to make you aware of an issue that you may not of given thought to at this time in your quest to better understand Dan. 9:24-27. It’s very simple, yet when understood can easily put to rest any interpretation claiming a “double application”, regardless of its highly intellectual rendering of the original texts. 

Apocalyptic prophecy has “only one fulfillment”,  which is proven by those events within prophecy that have been fulfilled to date. If this were not true, who then has the authority to tell others that this event or that event has yet another fulfillment, or multiple to come. Such reasoning makes the more sure word of apocalyptic prophecy into a nose of wax.  

I would discourage anyone from going down that road.
