The initial popularity of the book, in my opinion, can be credited to misinformation. When I initially heard of The DaVinci Code, I heard of an Indiana Jones type adventure in search of the Holy Grail. Intrigued, I bought the book. I had no idea what it was about, but soon saw the direction it was heading. I disagreed with all of it's premises, and found it funny how Brown blasts Biblical accounts, discrediting them as "wild" while he follows up with his own accusations that are even more wild! I stopped reading it half way through, but was encouraged by a friend to finish it: being promised "it get's better".. I never felt that it did.

Obviously, the book has become a phoenomenon, and will no doubt be a run-away success at the box office. I do find it a shame that Hollywood is so quick to promote it, while they hid from The Passion of the Christ, but we should not find this surprising. Hollywood obviously has an agenda that is perpendicular to ours: remove God & traditional values & nothing will stand in the way of their more liberal viewpoints.

However, I don't blame Hollywood, or fear the release of The DaVinci Code. Anyone who believes & cares about their Christian faith even remotely will walk away unscathed by this movie. True believers will see the truth, and confused ones will do the research to answer their questions & see the purely ficticious nature of the movie.

Anyone who is so quick to abandon their faith can't blame Tom Hanks or Ron Howard. I agree this movie may move people in that direction, but it is simply exposing a problem that has been lying in the weeds anyway. God is being removed from virtually every aspect of public life, but it is our conscious decision to not let it be removed from our private lives. It is up to us to keep God in our lives, not Hollywood: their intentions are clear.

It's about to hit us over the pond.

Dan Brown himself purports to be a "christian" (now I don't know the guy and I'm not gonna judge if this is or isn't the case) - but one thing is certain his book has bumped up "religous" conversations where previously there was just apathy.

AS some of you warriors on this board will know apathy is one of satan's WMD's.

Da Vinci code? Over and over again he (Dan Brown) says it, I say it , it is a work of FICTION and it presents a "veiw" on events biblical.

I really don't think hysterical comments from perfectly sensible christians is helpful.

My own veiw is it's great to engage in lively debate with non christian mates and Da Vinci code and it's attendant conspiracy theory is a good springboard.

I leave them with this very very powerful little "conspiracy theory".

Currently, in the same Vatican Archives that Dan makes so much of in his novel, there is document under translation - an explicit letter from the Sanhedrin to Pilate himself asking for Roman support in covering up the increasing and worrying reports that the Jesus Christ they had just crucified had been seen by a number of eye witnesses alive and well.

Brown and Howard and Hanks are consumate artists at what they do, and what they do is to tell a tale. They neither need to beleive it or even have a position on it, they simply need to do their job (like we all do). I don't think it's fair to criticise them or indeed attribute any great significance to their actions here.

Lastly to look on this as a threat to the greatest power in the universe, it's just laughable...
