Glow in the dark BACON!

*laugh* okay...my question is "why?" I mean...who needs pigs to glow in the dark?? I can kinda understand that it's useful to know that it's possible...but why glow in the dark?? It's just so...random.

I have, once in a while, eaten in the dark. Dont ask why.

Actually this couldnt be farther from worthless.

The point is to create and improving techniques for altering genes in mammels. Something scientists are very bad at right now.

So they choose something that will give obvious signs of success - aka it glows. (plus its a fun to boot).

Once they perfect these techniques, they can make livestock that produces more muscle than fat, are hardier in harsher climates, use them to produce various drugs, make them resistant to paracites, all sorts of things. Then these improved livestock can be sold and bred in 3rd world countries to improve nutrition and overall food production.

Genetically enhanced meat.....the problem is we don't know the effects that it will have upon humans once we digest this meat. Likewise, sending these animals over to starving nations, whilst good intentioned and all, isn't going to help when the entire population is dead of disease and famine caused in the present. It might be noble to find a way to try and ehance what God has already made, but it certainly would be wiser to deal with the problem we have now instead of producing glow in the dark pigs.

There is no proof whatsoever that eating genetically enhansed animals has any effect whatsoever on humans.

But that doesn't mean there wont be proof in the future. When people first started smoking there was no proof it had any harm on humans, in fact people thought it was good to smoke...now we know otherwise.

and you could say the same thing about flying, driving cars, drinking the water we have to drink now, hair spray, makup and Lord knows what else we're doing that will ultamately kill us..... going to the beach. When a person is born there should be a big purple stamp on our backsides saying, "Life is hazarodous to your health.

Maybe the green pigs when eaten will send the greed stuff through your system and it will attach itself to any cancer in your body and then your immune system will understand it as foreign and will attack it and dispose of it.... thus curing all cancer among humans........ and it will all be due to the three little pigs.

So if, for instance, some of its stem cells are injected into another animal, scientists can track how they develop without the need for a biopsy or invasive test.

But creating them has not been easy. Many of the altered embryos failed to develop.

The researchers say they hope the new, green pigs will mate with ordinary female pigs to create a new generation - much greater numbers of transgenic pigs for use in research.

I don't think these pigs are meant for market, but for research.

I guess that would kind of change the whole "this little piggy went to market" song then.
