I would say that anytime you have an issue that is potentially damaging to a relationship with a bro / sis in Christ you should adress it. My guess is if you approach it from the perspective of the pain it caused you, he will respond positively

That doesn't sound good.

Does he know that you are Jewish?

Because I don't think your concern is just him making a racial slur - but that his grind against Jews is hurting you.

Am I correct?

If so, that's all the more reason to speak to him and try to work a reconciliation out between you two.

He knows I'm Jewish...he's known my family for 25 years....longer than I've even been on this earth.

Well, there you have it. He obviously doesn't care that it's a racial slur and has no problem with such. My question now is - having outspoken bigoted views, how has he been the assistant pastor for so long?

Oh it's a corrupt church :noidea:

*sigh* no kidding...

Anyway, I pretty much agree that he should be confronted over such things. The important thing to remember is to do it in love. Matthew 18:15-17 tells us how we should deal with conflict between brethren, and there is definitely confrontation involved. Still, remember to "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." (Eph. 4:2) I think if we keep the goal of loving one another in mind, it is entirely possible to keep unity while dealing with offenses...there's a time to confront and a time to drop the issue...it's not an exact science, so do all this while being in constant prayer, seeking out God's will and godly counsel, and searching your heart.

There's a difference between a church and a corrupt church :whistling:

If we were to be apathetic towards sin in a church, we wouldn't have a New Testament. The entire purpose of Paul's epistles was to show corruption and sin and correct it. None of us are perfect, but if there isn't an attempt to be perfect, then the church has become corrupt. As it is, I left the church. Racists, classists, and no accountability (the pastor is basically having an affair and fears no reprocussions). This is the smallest offense as well...that's quite corrupt :P

That is a far bigger issue than poor word choices. That alone would cause me to leave a church. If the leadership is under an unrepentent situation like that, can he effectively lead? No.

I didn't vote on it, but if it hurted you, you should confront him in a righteous manner. Your feelings are as important as any other human in this world. Wisdom requires responseability, that means that if his response caused an urgency in your feelings, he should have the ability to explain his words. The jewish people, just like any other race that's been oppresed through the ages, should have an explanation from their oppresors as to why of their words. If you feel offended, he should take this into consideration the next time he opens his mouth. Because while he may not think it offends nobody, that's his personal feelings, and it's selfish in itself. Now many things offend diffrent people, but when it's based on race, it is unrighteous.

I hope I didn't make this confusing. I have a hard time putting things into words unless I'm writing poetry. You should take him aside, and discuss it, if that doesn't work then the congregation should be told, and the matter settled. I hope this helps.

This is a real life thing I am facing right now.

Hi Joel,

Seeing it is a Ass. Pastor if you decide to approach him I wouldn't take it past that. If he said this in a sermon he probably isn't going to listen. Is this a young guy fresh out of college? If it is, it sounds like the novice being lifted up in pride.(1Tim 3:6)

Do you think he was intentionally ragging on the Jews or as Cats' says just using the colloquialism?

LT

He's in his 60's or 70's and has been the assistant pastor for a long time at this church. Likewise, he used to be a business man and he always talks about how he could never get money out of "those Jews."

Hi Joel,

A man in his 60-70's is an elder in both ways. Only you know the whole story and the info you give can only be in part to those of us you have told. We are told to go to those that have offended us and if we can let him know of the offence we may gain him. There are so many variables that only you can really deal with the problem if it is that big a deal. Spend some time(the more the better) in prayer and I am sure that the Spirit will guide you in what you should do.

God Bless,

LT

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
