I'm afraid to say, but I agree with Nayzir. There are more ways for sleezy comedians to joke about than blaspheming the name of any part of the trinity.

God is not a frivolous God, and anyone laughing at jokes about Him should take care. Am I narrow-minded? you bet ya boots I am. Has God got a sense oh humour? Read the second pslam. He laughs at people who make fools of themselves. Please, show a little reverence.

I am not going to discount anyone with convictions against the movie. Actually, I do not blame you for such.

I found myself teeter-tottering quite a bit.

On the other hand, intellectually analyzing the things they mocked, I found some things to think about.

For instance, in the holy handgrenade scene, I saw them poking fun at the mindset of the Crusades, something for which I have . . . not too pleasant regards towards. ("...that Thou mayest blow Thine enemies into tiny little pieces - in Thy mercy.":emot-hug: )

Sometimes it's good to laugh at ourselves.

But then again, "Life of Brian" went too close to the edge for me. So,

Even unsaved I thought life of brian was blasphemous. Now that Im saved, I see that it clearly crossed the line and is not something anyone should see.

I think to a good extent that this here song is something we should all do. And G-d does have a sense of humor. Just look at the Platypus. A mamal that lays eggs. I remember being 3 days post-op. And just taking myself to a movie. This song made me laugh so hard I cried. And could not stop singing it all the way home.

So let's not haggle over thing and remember to....

ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE

words and music by Eric Idle

Some things in life are bad

They can really make you mad

Other things just make you swear and curse.

When you're chewing on life's gristle

Don't grumble, give a whistle

And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten

There's something you've forgotten

And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.

When you're feeling in the dumps

Don't be silly chumps

Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd

And death's the final word

You must always face the curtain with a bow.

Forget about your sin(This part I disagree with) -

give the audience a grin

Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death

Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of ****

When you look at it

Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.

You'll see it's all a show

Keep 'em laughing as you go

Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the right side of life...

(Come on guys, cheer up!)

Always look on the bright side of life...

Always look on the bright side of life...

(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)

Always look on the bright side of life...

(I mean - what have you got to lose?)

(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.

What have you lost? Nothing!)

Always look on the right side of life...

The Life of Brian, though funny is seriously blashphemous....A mockery is made of the crucifixion, the teachings of Christ ("Consider the Lillies") and the healings ("I was blind but now I can see." - The Juniper berry man.") and demonstrations of the power God. The whole movie is based on the premise of Brian being the "Messiah". The "Holy Grail" for some reason didnt bother me in the same way..Probably because its one thing to mock religion, but quite another to mock God and his Messiah. Religion is just rules and traditions set by men.

I first saw this movie a number of years before I was saved by God...It was one of the most hilarious movies I had ever seen. I was a big fan of Monty Python.

Those guys were completely crazy...

However, after I was saved, I tried to watch it again and found I could not view it with the same eyes as I did the first time...I was a new person. Christ meant something to me and this movie makes a mockery of the life and death of Jesus our Saviour..It is no surprise to me that the people who wrote, produced, directed and acted in it, could not see the mockery themselves....They were lost. The Word of God however is quite clear....."Do not be fooled, God will NOT be mocked."

It isnt because God does not have a sense of Humour...Its simply that there is nothing funny at all about the death of his only begotten son for the salvation of man.

To a man this movie is harmless fun. To those who know Christ, it is not funny at all. If it doesnt Grieve you, then something is wrong...How good a witness are you when you sit in front of a television set and laugh at a movie that clearly falsely depicts the Life death and resurrection of your very own saviour, and then a couple of days later go to church and sing songs of praise to him....??

Though the Python crew had no real idea what they were doing in the REAL context of the Life, death and resurrection of Christ, I read an expose on the making of the film and a few of them had some very interesting words to say....In their build up to the making of the movie, they read the bible so that they could gain some kind of understanding of just who this person Jesus was.......Incredibly they were quite amazed that when reading it, they discovered that he was NOT the person they had always heard or thought he was...He was really quite an amazing man. They felt humbled by the experience and it even tore at their consciences when filming certain segments of the movie that hold real biblical significance. One might say that many seeds were planted during the filming of "The Life of Brian...."

It actually really did amaze me that after I became a Believer and follower of Christ, I could not watch that movie any more..It greived me, that men who are so lost, could mock in ignorance the very man who came to save them. And YES...I was also once one of those mockers..But not anymore.

Regards,

Ben.

Yeah - that's kind-of how I felt, too.

(Actually, Brian wasn't the Messiah, but he was mistaken for the Messiah throughout his life - i.e. born in the stable next to Jesus...and it goes downhill from there.)

Interestingf factoid about the cast reading the Bible, though!

Life of Brian does not lock G-d, or Jesus', or his Messiah-ship. It actually mocks FALSE Messiahs. Brian never claimed to be G-d, or the Messiah. As a matter of fact Brian grows more and more frustrated by the whole affair. Along with the Judian Peoples Front, The Peoples Front of Judea, and other groups. It was the people that made Brian the Messiah that they claimed him to be. Plus remember in the beginning of the movie the MAGI went to the wrong house.

The Life of Brian mocks false G-ds and false Messiahs. Not the REAL G-d or the REAL Messiah JESUS. Yes it polks gentle fun at Jesus' sermon on the Mount of Olives. But it is mainly the people who can't understand a word HE is saying from a distance that get mocked. "Blessed are the cheesemakers" and so forth.

I find nothing evil with this movie. As opposed to Last Temptation of Christ.

Good point...I never really thought of that...I still found it greiving though...! To be perfectly honest I didnt know whether to laugh or not as I felt a small sense of either conviction or condemnation...And figuring that the word says there is now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, it must have been conviction. Whatever it was, I felt it was the right decision to turn it off. That's just me...!

Thanks.

Ben.

I can appreciate your view, Mikado - I just can't bring myself to see it that way.

For instance, when Brian finds himself on a platform of false messiahs while running form the Roman guards, he tries to 'hide" by taking on the role, and directly quotes Jesus' words. The people fall all over themselves for him.

So, it's not that he is mistaken for "a" messiah, but he is mistaken for "the" Messiah - Jesus Himself. That's what irked me.

Side note - about the Sermon on the Mount. It has been found that the landscape creates a natural ampitheater - that is somehow sound carries pretty far. I saw a documentary testing this. They had an actor portraying Jesus quoting from the Sermon with the camera crew and narrators a fair distance away (the mics were with the narrators and not the actor at all). You actually could hear his words form a considerable distance. Neat, huh?

Thanks for that bit about the acoustics of the Mount of Olives. I was not aware of that fact. That's pretty cool.

I do not remember all the lines. But will watch Brian to see where he quotes Jesus.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
