I think what you are talking about is the power of God (Father?) and not so specifically the Holy Spirit... as if I know, never heard of this before

Thank you!

Crystal

The Holy Spirit is God....so to have the power of the Holy Spirit is to have the power of God.

*sigh* confrazzeled

So what is the difference? Are they the same? What is the difference, the similarity, or either way, what is it or they?

;)

The same.

When you are touched by God, you are touched by the Holy Spirit.

I myself see no difference in the three. To me they are all the same.

Hi I am new here and would just like to add that I am trying to understand what this means as well. Great question by the way. First I examined what is the purpose of the Holy Sprit. 1. Interpreter, baptist, discerner, gift giver, problem solver. The holy Spirit is the supernatural heart of God that is responsible for moving mountains as we say. That power to get the job done so to speak. So praying to God for the power of the Holy Spirit is asking him to give you one or some of his supernatural powers to achieve something in his name. The power of the Holy spirit is to achieve the unattainable, impossible all to the glory to God.

I think the understanding of this comes from an understanding (as much as possible) of the triune nature of God. The Trinity.

I have heard many examples which attempt to explain the trinity, such as

Water in 3 states - Solid, liquid and gas. All expressed in different ways, but basically constituting the same 'ingredients'

Another is the analogy of a book. A book has length, width and thickness (depth)

Yet another is the Sun. The sun gives off heat, light and radiation. Three separate 'components', but the same sun.

People have wrestled with this problem for centuries. Personally, I think that we will never fully know the answer in this life, since (a little known fact here) humans are quite incapable of thinking of more than one thing at once.

Since God knows everything, and can see everything at once, we are at a loss to comprehend such a thing, as we are capable of thinking of only one thing at a time.

It's true. The human mind is only capable of thinking of one thing at a time. That is a fact. My daughter often claims that she can watch the TV and read a magazine at the same time, (this can be annoying, when I want to change the channel as she is reading, but she insists that she is both watching and reading at the same time), but I keep telling her that that is just not possible. For the brief moment when she is watching the TV, she is not capable of following the story in the magazine, and vice-versa.

We are very limited in our understanding.

Well, the power of the Holy Spirit, thats a wide huge thing, Lets see, discernment, understanding, Knowing God personaly, Healing and various gifts, Witnessing, The power of God in your life, Your personal relationship, edifying, Changes your heart, Gives you more of a spiritual mind, Love, the list goes on and on.

Wait... so it is kind of those different things that the Holy Spiritdoes in our lives? I know there is a verse in Corinthians that it it the Holy Spirit that gives discernment, so in that sense, praying to the Holy Spirit to give us discernment and understanding of teh scriptures? Not to mention the Holy Spirit gives conviction, and comfort, etc?

Personal relationship? Edifying? Changes you heart? Spiritual mind and love? how so?

Crystal

Well with out the Holy Spirit we wouldnt know Jesus personaly, he is the spirit of truth, He guides our minds to the spiritual mind, Edifying is pard of conviction, Spiritual mind is part of discernment, Love is The most important gift, and yes he provides love though, But it is Jesus who gives us all these things, one awesome thing I learned is that the Holy spirit even makes intersession when we pray.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

The spirit is what keeps us grounded in Jesus, and is Jesus, Is God, the 3 are one, so All that Jesus does through us, The Holy Spirit does through us. Now one thing I have noticed is that in various places the holy spirit is known as the spirit of truth, Now discernment helps keep us in a spiritual mind, so without all that we wouldnt have a relationship with Jesus, all 3 work hand and hand.

Sounds great. Receiving the power of the Holy Spirit is allows us to: 1. stay disciplined to God because the Holy Spriit gives us power to resist temptation, and "break our sins".(romans 8:1-3). 2. Allows us to better minister and pray to others. 3. Can allow us to speak in tongues to "edify ourselves" 1Cor 14:1. , and to be closer to God.

4. Holy Spirit provides other gifts.

Praise God!

Okay, in Acts 1:8, the word says, You shall receive power after when the Holy Ghost falls upon you and you shall be my witnesses.......

I think that means you will have the authority of God's power to overcome the temptations of the devil in every circumstance. JMHO.

The first mention we have of Him and His power is in the creation, this is important because He also has a part in the New Creation. The power that was exerted at the beginning is the same power that is exerted in our new beginning. The power that resurrected Messiah is the same power that is used in our first resurrection, from the death of the curse into the life of the promise, this being the New Birth, from death to life, from darkness into glorious light.

When I was converted I visited many churches and chapels and spoke of what had happened, the majority of people looked at me as if I was mad, they had not had the experience of the resurrection, they had not felt the power at work to deliver them from captivity.

Paul also speaks of the hope that He should know the power of the resurrection, this of course being the resurrection of our mortal bodies.

I cannot understand how someone can profess trust and be alien to the experience of this power.

All Messianists have the Holy Spirit, but not all are filled with The Spirit.

Grace & truth, H.

I wish I could understand the power that you are talking about.... adn I don't understand how one can have the Holy Spirit and not be filled with it becaue I have been filled the Holy Spirit since the day I bowed my knees, repented of my sin, and accepted my Lord Jesus Christ. I really don't understand what you mean by "power"... sorry...

Wait.. hold that a sec (lol, sorry, just got home from the bus route at church :) ) So when you say power, you are talking about the Holy Spirit leading you to repent? Leading you to salvation? Kind of like how people say that they came back to church and they felt the Holy Spirit moving them to "come forward"? That sort of moving?? *thinks she might actually understand!*

Kittylover, the natural man cannot understand the things of the Spirit of God, but by the power of the Holy Spirit, one's eyes are opened, and he understands the Scriptures.

The power of the Holy Spirit makes a person who is dead in sin to be alive in Christ. In other words that power brings one from death to life. His power brings about the miracle of the new birth and implants the divine nature into the repentant sinner.

Then, by the power of the Holy Spirit, (and the will of a man) it is possible to mortify the sinful nature daily and give ascendency to the implanted divine nature.

By the power of the Holy Spirit can one be transformed into the Image of Christ. The Holy Spirit lives in the child of God and empowers him by this power to work for God and also to produce the fruits of the Spirit.

By this power can one have peace, joy, and faith.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
