From Christ's Free Servant,

When I got a little older, there was a Friday night after the news TV show on (that's back when the TV shut down after the evening news and it was not on 24-7). The show was called Goolardy (sp?). He was one of the pioneers of those movies where they always have people talking in between scenes of the movie. He was really funny and it was a real treat if we got to stay up and watch him. The movies were usually those old monster movies, but that was part of the fun of it. We also had Larry, Curly and Moe during my era, too, which we thought was funny, too (my husband's parents would not let him watch it). Oh, and my first pizza was one of those Chef Boyardee things out of a box and I thought it was wonderful!

CHRIST'S FREE SERVANT!!!

Um I can't spell it right either, but that was Golardi or something like that out of Channel 8 in Cleveland, Ohio. That was a great program, I watched it every Friday night for years. When he left, and moved to California (his real name was Ernie Anderson, a friend of Tim Co (I will remember his name eventually lol), the program had Hoolihan and Big Chuck. After Hoolihan left, the program became Big Chuck and Little John. When I moved to Illinois almost two years ago from near Cleveland, OH, that program was still on Channel 8, and also on Saturday afternoons.

Just a bit more info.

Laura,

Thank you!! Yes, we saw all the ones you mentioned. We left Akron in 1982 and have lived in the south ever since then, but I think Big Chuck and Little John were still on when we left. I had forgotten about them, so another memory. :th_praying:

CHRIST'S FREE SERVANT!

I just remembered. Ernie Anderson is the man that played Gulardi for many years before going to California. I think he did do some comedy and was a friend of Tim Conway, the comedian on Carol Burnett years ago and went on to make many various movies.

Tim actually is from a little town near Cleveland, OH named Chagrin Falls.

Of course, the biggest name from Cleveland was Bob Hope, who passed away a few years ago. I remember the old "Road" movies Bob Hope made back in the 1950s I think. Was it with Bing Crosby or someone else, I can't remember the other man? Many had a lady, Rosalin Russell.

All for now lol :)

Laura,

That does bring back many memories from the past. I loved the Carol Burnett show!! My mom was not what I call a funny person, but she would get such a kick out of Carol Burnett and my mom had this really funny laugh, which I think I'm now inheriting because I hear her when I laugh now. Yes, I am familiar with Chagrin Falls. If you are from Akron, it is like being from Cleveland, because all of our TV stations pretty much came out of Cleveland and we went up there for so many things, like to watch the Indians play or go to the Zoo or the Rain Forest. Oh, and I'm a fan of Bing Crosby, too. I loved to hear him sing "White Christmas."

One of my favorite childhood memories was of our church camp at Beaulah Beach, OH on Lake Erie. I went there every summer for summer camp. I loved the sound of the lake and the feel in the air of the lake nearby. I loved to just sit on the top of the hill on a bench under a nice shade tree and look at the water and spend time in prayer and meditation. It was so peaceful! In fact, that is my picture of peace - grassy hill, under a nice shade tree near the water. I think it is so worshipful.

Well, thanks for the trip down memory lane - oh, do you remember Captain Penny and Captain Kangaroo? I loved both of those shows, and Howdy Doody, too. And, I always wanted to be Anette on the Mickey Mouse show. She was my idol. :noidea:

M I C K E Y M O U S E!!!!!!!

I loved the original Mickey Mouse Club. I suppose after Howdy Doody, it was Mickey for many years. I loved the Mousekeeters, especially Bobby (who went on to dance with Lawrence Welk for many years, and still does in Branson, MO at the Welk Theater. They have these programs on Saturday on PBS TV stations, from Branson. Much of it is current (Bobby still is as handsome as ever) and they show parts of old programs. Such memories.

Remember "Spin and Marty", the little serial drama at a youth ranch. I loved that show, always wanted to ride those horses. I did actually, in later years, at a church camp that was in PA for many years. I was in my 40s then, but still as a kid lol.

Captain Penny was before I had moved to Cleveland and he was not on the local Youngstown stations, but Captain Kangaroo sure was.

Annette is still around, been suffering with MS for many years. Remember her and Frankie Avalon in those beach movies they used to make? Frankie was just here locally at the Mark in Moline, IL doing a concert this past weekend.

It is hard to believe that all these singers (the ones from the 1950s and 60, are all in their 60s now lol. Many of the teeny bopper actors are too. I recently saw Paul Peterson on TV and several others from the 60s sitcoms.

All for now! Keep the memories going, folks :24:

I loved the Lawrence Welk show, but my husband hates it. He did like to watch Mitch Miller's sing alongs, though. Remember those with the bouncing ball? My favorite group on the Lawrence Welk show was the Lennon Sisters. I loved to hear them sing in harmony. My two sisters and I sang together some, but mostly it was me and the sister right after me and many people said when we sang in unison that it sounded like one voice. I met my husband at University Singers at Akron U and we've been singing together ever since - duets, quartets (w/other people, obviously), ensembles, choirs, etc. All of our kids sing but one, so we had a lot of family sings, too. So, I'm partial to anything with music - loved Annette and Frankie. I think I've watched all their movies. I love Rock 'N Roll, too. I stay away from stuff with bad lyrics, but I just love the sound of that style of music. It makes me happy inside!! It's like I'm a kid again when I hear it.

How could I have forgotten the Mitch Miller Sing-A-Longs? I remember Leslie Uggums, a great singer who later went on to be an actress in Roots many years ago. I wonder what happened to her? I will have to look that up. I don't remember other singers, but I know there were many.

The Lennon Sisters were mentioned. I have also seen them from the Branson Theater, along with several others that were on Welk many years ago, Tom Netherton, the blonde lady oh yeah, Norma Zimmer and the lady that played a mean piano, honky-tonk and jazz.

I have Vol. 1 and 2 of the original Dragnet programs, six programs on each. Talk about funny. Back then, they were wonderful; looking now, just a bit strange (wonder how any crimes were solved back then?)

Just now thinking back, comes to mind the Andy Williams program (The original Osmonds). Oh yeah, remember Arthur Godfry? Many up and coming singers began on his program also.

One of the $1 DVDs I purchased is George Burns and Gracie Allen. I had not realized or remembered how goofy she really was, and quite a talented lady.

Remember the Lone Ranger on the radio and many other programs, also? That is when I was a little kid, but I still remember some. It was so exciting when we did get our first TV, and I sat on the floor watching the Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers and even Sky King. Such memories.

My husband and I have gone to purchasing old TV series that we loved when we were younger. One of our favorites is "Hogan's Heroes." Our 21 year old son-in-law loves that series and often will call and ask to come over and watch some of the shows with us. It is timeless!!

Nonetheless, we have tried some of those old shows and have found them to be really "dorky." One of my favorites was "Greatest American Hero." I loved the theme song: "Believe it or not I'm walking on air, I never thought I could be so free-e-e. Flying away on a wing and a prayer, who could it be? Believe it or not, it's just me!"

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
