I thought I'd ask this question since the majority of people on WorthyBoards seem to be American, where there is a proliferation of firearms, if media reports are to be believed.

To give something of my background, I live in the UK, where guns are not at all common. I don't know anybody who owns a gun.

When I was about 10, my dad bought a gun from an 'underground' dealer. Totally illegal. It used to be a .22 air rifle, but was converted to fire .22 bullets. My dad's reasoning was that if anybody ever broke into our house, he would use the gun to shoot the person in the legs, rather than shoot to kill.

He carried guns in the war, of course.

I also fired the gun several times myself around that time. Scared the pants off me!!! :mgcheerful:

When the Dunblane massacre occurred in Scotland, where a man walked into a primary school and blasted 16 innocent children to death......a law was passed whereby illegal firearm ownership carried a mandatory 5 year prison sentence. My dad instructed me to dispose of the gun, so I dumped it in the canal near where I live.

I admit that guns scare me. What guns do to people scares me. I have seen enough stuff on the internet to know what guns do to people.

So....I was wondering......how many people here actually own guns? And do you feel comfortable with that?

Have you ever fired you gun in anger?

Do you not have a problem, as a Christian, with owning a gun, and perhaps facing the prospect of killing another person, if they should 'cross you' in any way?

I see nothing wrong with it...but no, I will never own a gun....

Gun, knife, baseball bat, etc....

If used correctly and for it's intended purpose, they all can be a source of enjoyment.

Like anything else, once abused, they can become deadly.... :24::whistling:

But, to answer the questions: I do not currently own a firearm, although that is a temporary hiccup in my life. That darn "need the money for other things right now" seems to be getting in the way.

I drive an hour and a half to work on one of the worst drug trafficking routes in the US. To break down at 5am leaves me totally exposed. I don't like that feeling at all.

Well said, ted. :whistling:

Even a charcole grill can be used for evil in the wrong hands.

We do own guns, always have. My father built them. He was a master craftsman. I inherited some of them when he died. They are important to me. My husband also owns a gun and a cross-bow for hunting purposes.

Sadly, our state limits the hunting with cross-bows to only those who are handicapped and cannot pull back on a regular bow string. It may be the law in other states, too, but I'm not sure. I'd love to go out with one, though.

I have owned many kinds of firearms throughout my life. Now I only own a .22 rabbit hunting gun (which I've never even fired yet.... I DO need to go rabbit hunting!)

Although I'm probably going to buy a small .380 auto next week.

I have always enjoyed the shooting sports, especially pistolcraft. There is almost nothing harder in sports than getting a good tight pattern with a pistol (well maybe hitting a 90 MPH fast ball, or a really good Screwball in baseball.....).

I've only pointed a gun at a person in anger one time, and that was to stop a torturer. That's been more than 30 years ago, and thank God, the memory fades......

i believe there are around 250million firearms owned by around 100 million people.

To give something of my background, I live in the UK, where guns are not at all common. I don't know anybody who owns a gun.

I admit that guns scare me. What guns do to people scares me. I have seen enough stuff on the internet to know what guns do to people.

Guns do nothing to people. its people who do things to people. Guns are nothing more than a inanimate object that people use to either behave responsibly or comit evil acts.

A gun is no more deadly than a knife, baseball bat, automobile, or a plastic bag over someones head.

So....I was wondering......how many people here actually own guns? And do you feel comfortable with that?

Yes i do, and yes i am.

Have you ever fired you gun in anger?

Anger? i don't think in Anger. Fear maybe, resolve definately!

Do you not have a problem, as a Christian, with owning a gun, and perhaps facing the prospect of killing another person, if they should 'cross you' in any way?

Absolutely no problem with owning one, nor using one to kill another person. Christ told his deciples to sell their cloak and buy a sword for defense.

Now that, I definitely understand, Ted

Even if you just pointed the gun in the direction of the yobs........well........it is better that they should be 'shaking in their boots', rather than you.

Good answer :24:

well here in the uk I will just have to rely on my tongue and my rock cakes ...although the way things are going with all the illegal guns I do wonder how much longer we will have the laws that forbid the ownership of guns unless under VERY strict rules and regulations :whistling:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
