Although what aspect of God Gauntlet believes the gauntlet represents (i.e. helmet = salvation) . . . I have no clue.

Action, strength & agency armored/guided by God. That's it. A more elaborate suit-of-armour than described in Scripture (Medieval Eurpoean) would have gauntlets to protect the knight's hands. But it's figurative armour anyhow.
