This is a quote from the person who made the post;

i think the question that i am asking is the assurance of salvation. I have always believe that God is the author and the surety of salvation and it does not depend on what the person does. Isn't Christ sacrifice good for the past, present and future

My advice for when comforting someone who is grieving:

Before you go to them, read the Book of Job. Take it to heart that the only time Job's friends who gave to comfort him really did comfort him... was the first seven days when they didn't open their mouths yet.

Btw, this verse just came to mind:

Gen 18:25b ...Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?

Yes, yes He will.

Which is exactly what I gave in my first post on this thread. I gave advice on how to support a grieving parent.

I have a friend whose son just comitted suicide. He is a devoted Christian and is so depressed and believes that because his son commited suicide that he is lost. I do not necessary believe that in that i think suicide is like any other sins committed by christians and that there is no sin that cannot be covered by the Blood of Jesus. Man i don't even know how to comfort this Christian father.

May God be with you and comfort you in this time of sorrow

Part of suicidal ideation is the idea that death is better than the hell I am going through now; a form of mental torture; thus death can only be better. Now this is the thinking of despair and clinical depression, a sickness of the mind commonly called Mental illness and it needs to be treated and can be treated in many cases.

Would fear of hell prevent some suicide? This is the question we are looking at.

I don't know the answer. I do know that man has somewhat of a point as I have seen Christians often teen's who are considering suicide be very very interested in the answer to this very question, which is very disturbing and something for us to think about before we answer.

Like I said I don't have a good answer, just that we need to really think about this a little. One answer would be to point people in the direction of the severe pain that all suicide causes, consider the case of the op. Suicide is murder, it is self murder, God gave us a life and only God has the right to take that life back.

If you relieve a person of the burdens that weigh them down, if you can show them that GOD chose them as one of HIS children, if you can explain to them that their efforts to do that which is impossible will only cause them grief, then you have the potential of beginning to break through the despare, even the despare of mental illness (which is sometimes demonic/spiritual) and you can start a healing process.

Very few people can be scared out of hell or death or suicide. But, many can be unburdened and helped to find that place of spiritual conquest that leads to life.

Perhaps the simple knowledge that they do not have to live up to any expectations with regard to JESUS will make them realize that living for HIM is better than dieing for self.

I think fear of hell is a strong motivator for many people. There is nothing wrong with having a fear of hell, there is nothing wrong with having a faith in Christ simply becuase you do not wish to burn in hell.

However on suicide I would respond that scripture does not address this issue at all, so there is no way we could say IF you commit suicide you will go to hell, but also we could NOT promise heaven either and should not promise heaven.

I think the advice given on the nature of God and what He has done on the cross for us would be the best as someone suggested I think EricH.

I am not sure if Hell would be a sufficient deterrent for suicide as often the person involved is not int the frame of mind to think straight. Anyway the person who is considering suicide is not the person being consoled here, rather it is the person who is the family who is grieving at the moment so whether hell is a deterrence is not the issue at the moment.

Now in the case of OSAS issue, this is what I do think at the moment.

Justification by faith alone involves the process of a person's legal standing before God. It involves a process where a person is adopted as a son of God. Sanctification is a process performed by the Holy Spirit is a process where the person gets to be more and more like Jesus and does not complete until we are dead.

A person who is justified do not lose his legal standing every time he sins. I remember a friend of mine who has been water baptised 7 times because he thinks he has lost his salvation every time he backslides. A person may lose the close fellowship when ever he sins but he does not lose his adoption as a son of God every time he sins. I take an earthly example in that a father may be angry whenever his son does something wrong, may even kick in out of the house but his birth certificate still testify that the person is still his son and that his mother still gave birth to him does not change.

While it is true that in a case of suicide, the person cannot confess his sin, but that is not a prerequisite for forgiveness of sins. The blood of Jesus is. I do not confess each and every sin or i may not even be conscious of every sin i have performed but i know that the blood of Jesus covers each and every unconfessed sin.

Suicide is not a mortal sin as the Roman Catholic church believes. Every sin can be fogiven, and only one particular sin can remain unforgiven accroding to Jesus, suicide is not the sin mentioned.

We can be sure of eternal life if we trust in Jesus to get us there. If we rely on Good works, then i cannot be sure.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
