  1. I pray about it first. Then I believe that scripture interprets scripture, so I check cross references or my Thompson Chain Reference. Finally I check several commentaries to see of others came to the same conclusions I did. Not all of my ideas are set in concrete. It is important to remain teachable and to be willing to adapt to accommodate other verses in God's word that I had not previously considered.
  2. The Old Testament reveals God's dealings with the nation of Israel. It tells of His patience with mankind, and especially with Israel, His righteousness and justice, His omniscience, His love, His character. Jesus came to reveal the Father. He did and said only the things His Father gave Him to do and say. His obedience was perfect, even to the cross. Yet we do need to pay attention to the Holy Spirit as we read the Word. He does reveal our sin to us and how short we fall of God's glory. He also shows us how to overcome sin by walking in the Spirit and setting our minds on the things of the Spirit. He tells us how to live and overcome our problems by practicing the sermon on the mount. No, it is not all about us. However, it is meant to be applied to our lives and not glossed over as head knowledge. We would be in equally grave error if we did not apply God's word to our lives.
  3. Angel mean messenger. Jesus said He is the I AM in John 8:58. God said the same thing in Exodus 3 Tell them I AM has sent you. Then He gives His Name as YHVH. Some think it means I AM. So Jesus is YHVH God, Who Is and Was and Is To Come. He IS. And He is the Messenger Who appears in the Old Testament. Even The Word Who was made flesh.
  4. My granddaughter is expecting in December and we are thrilled. They will need prayer for godly wisdom in raising children today. I agree with Gandalf. They were saying the same things in 1900.
  5. Remember to put on the full armor of God. Eph 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Eph 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Eph 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, Eph 6:15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. Eph 6:16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; Eph 6:17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, Eph 6:18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, The deceiver of the brethren is attacking your husband. You battle with the truth of God's word, remembering that it is a spiritual enemy that you must thwart and stand strong against, not your husband. 2Co 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. 2Co 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 2Co 10:5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, I always remember the battle plan of 2 Chron. 20. Start thanking and praising God for his deliverance, now, in faith, knowing God is faithful. 2Ch 20:15 And he said, "Listen, all Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat: Thus says the LORD to you, 'Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God's. 2Ch 20:17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.' Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you." 2Ch 20:18 Then Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before the LORD, worshiping the LORD. 2Ch 20:19 And the Levites, of the Kohathites and the Korahites, stood up to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice. 2Ch 20:21 And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the LORD and praise him in holy attire, as they went before the army, and say, "Give thanks to the LORD, for his steadfast love endures forever." 2Ch 20:22 And when they began to sing and praise, the LORD set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed. PS I would take long walks 3-7 miles and pour out my heart to god during them. The exercise works off the stress hormones so you don't get sucked under as well. I went through this when my husband was severely depressed after he had cut off four fingers with a table saw. He was in danger of losing his job and was in severe pain with exposed nerves. He was angry with himself as well. I have given the Scriptures I stood on. Eventually in rehab he met someone who was worse off than himself and befriended the guy. It helped to pull him out of himself.
  6. The fall of Adam produced the fallen state of mankind and sin is due to our own fallen nature. The devil didn't make anyone sin; we are tempted by our own desires: Jas 1:14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Jas 1:15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Welcome to Worthy.
  7. I knew a 4 year old boy who saw Jesus and heaven when he was near death. It was so real to him that he became an evangelist at his young age, asking even nurses and doctors coming to his hospital room if they knew Jesus, "but do your REALLY know Him?" he would ask. He was ready to be with Him a year later when he passed away.
  8. I am not sure why millionaires should get medicare at this point. My mother in law had all that plus medicare and could easily have paid her own medical bills. I agree that it makes more sense to find people jobs, and that also gives them self respect for earning their own way.
  9. Mat 8:16 That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. Mat 8:17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "He took our illnesses and bore our diseases." This verse does refer to healing of the body and deliverance. I know several people who have said when they were healed, first the oppressive fear left them. That happens as soon as we realize it is just an attack of the enemy, and he is the father of lies who wants to steal our joy so we don't have to believe him. My friend who was healed of a melon sized tumor in her liver said that the fear had entered her when she was afraid of starving to death, a widow having no food or money for some time. She was in the hospital and her organs were shutting down from the cancer when several other friends visited her and had a night vigil praying for her and wrestling with a spirit of cancer before the fear finally left. It took 9 months for the tumor to finally disappear but at the end there was no trace of cancer in her. I have had fear grip me that way and then realize it was the enemy and a lie. But the fact is that I knew a faith healer who died believing for her healing. She was the daughter of John G. Lake, who perhaps was a charlatan but many still taught from his books and letters, including his daughter. She refused to go to the doctor, or even take an enema when she was constipated, but that eventually became an impaction and she died. My good friend was by her side. God does intend for us to use practical things to care for ourselves. We are not to refuse to use what is at hand. That is tempting God, like jumping off the high mountain expecting God to catch us, and failing to open the parachute on our back. God's promises are yes and Amen. Yet I have seem people believe for the healing of a baby but have the baby die, and then have the church condemn them for their lack of faith. Their grief was so compounded that they left that church. People who are in excruciating pain are just trying to exist, and we need to lift them up in prayer for their healing as we did my husband. He was healed when our pastors anointed him with oil and prayed for him.. The nerve pain was goin in a few hours. It was the prayers of faith that heal him when he couldn't believe for himself. God does heal and His word is yes and Amen. But we need to weep with those who weep and not cast blame. We rejoice with those who rejoice. We can rejoice even in the promises of God's word. I agree with George. Most of what Abdicate said was good teaching. However, without love we are nothing, and we need to have compassion on those who mourn and not condemn them. We can encourage and lift up those who are suffering, intercede and believe for them.
  10. The bottom line is that it is God who heals, not our faith. He may give us a gift of faith to receive healing or he may give someone else faith for our healing. Or God may wait to heal us in eternity. We leave that in God's hands. In times of great suffering we all need someone else to bear our burdens and pray for us. Joni will be whole in heaven. Meanwhile she has glorified God in her life. God can use our misfortunes to be glorified--all things work for our good when we love God and are called according to His purpose. It is intolerable for people to blame someone who is suffering for not being healed because they don't have enough faith, to blame parents for a child no being healed because the parents didn't have enough faith. That is passing judgment in the most hurtful way.
  11. Pro 15:15 All the days of the afflicted are evil, But he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast. Pro 17:22 A merry heart does good, like medicine,[fn] But a broken spirit dries the bones.
  12. Those surveys can be slanted so as to get the results they look for. I read my Bible daily without a guide and have grown more conservative as a result and would uphold the death penalty, the protection of our borders, and discourage entitlements. Jesus may have been liberal for his day, in comparison to the Pharisees, but not for today. He was very conservative morally and would have been persecuted on every college campus. He would have opposed abortion, He would have told people that if you don't work, you can't eat, He would have chewed out our congress big time for their lack of moral character, and preached repentance in most of our major cities including LA, Chicago, NewOrleans, San Farancisco, Seattle, etc that consider themselves liberal and progressive and condone sin. Moreover, reading the book of Nehemiah He would have shamed us into helping to build the walls.

Isa 45:7 I form the light and create darkness, I make peace and create calamity; I, the LORD, do all these things.’ Perhaps King James screwed up again.
  14. We can't judge others. God knows their hearts. I am sure if it was required of him to give it all to the the Lord, he would have. I have known more poor people who were greedy for gain than middle income folks. God doesn't require this of everyone--only those who love money. You will never know which people are generous because they will give secretly. Many go so far as to not deduct it all from taxes.

God created satan to be good. It was his own pride that led to his rebellion. In the same way God wills that all be saved but many are not due to their resisting the call and grace of God. So we are dealing with God's perfect will v.s. free will allowed by God. It is God's righteousness that created eternal reward and eternal punishment for the wicked in hell fire.
  16. The money changers were skimming and padding their own pockets. That is what Jesus objected to in making His Fathers house a den of thieves. It was not that they sold sacrifices but that they were dishonest in their dealings. This is not true of Billy Graham and I don't think he was trying to amass all the money because he seemed to be quite generous. Many people were saved and are still serving God as a result of his ministry. He effected many more who respected him in spite of rejecting Christ. I don't know concerning your unnamed preacher.
  17. I enjoy the classics from the first half of the 20th century. The romantics, Spanish rhythms, like Lecuona, Russian composers: Smetana, Rimsky-Korsekov, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky, and some of the weirder stuff like Peter and the Wolf or Lt.Kiev. by Prokofiev. Also like Gershwin's jazz symphonies and Puccini's operas. Do love hymns and many contemporary worship song. Also like Christian hard rock.
  18. In contrast some like Billy Graham only lived off the profits of the books he sold, and those were at rock bottom prices. He never asked for donations for himself and gave away many of the books. I told my cousin when we visited her that our church never asks for money, which is true. She took me to her church that Sunday and was embarrassed to have her pastor ask all who wanted to be blest come forward and place money down on the stage. Then he asked those who wanted a double blessing to come forward again and place more money on the stage. Not only did the left hand know what the right hand was doing, the whole congregation watched while people came forward with their money. Fleecing the flock. Pastors above all should be setting the example of trusting our God to supply their needs and the needs of their church.

I always interpret a passage literally unless it is stated otherwise in context. Nothing indicates that this would be "spiritual" fire. For instance, Mat 3:16 And when Jesus was baptized, He went up at once out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he [John] saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him. Like a dove means it is not literally a dove. There is nothing is the passages I quoted that indicate it is like fire or like hell fire or could possibly be interpreted as spiritual. It is what it is.
  20. Mat 8:17 NKJV that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND BORE OUR SICKNESSES." Isaiah 53:4
  21. The Greek Word is pisteuo. 1. pisteuo (G4100), "to believe," also "to be persuaded of," and hence, "to place confidence in, to trust," signifies, in this sense of the word, reliance upon, not mere credence. So to believe is to trust in and rely upon the person believed. It requires action on the part of the believer, as to place their lives on the line for who and what they believe.

Mat 18:8 NKJV "If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. Mat 18:9 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire. Mat 13:42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Would you agree that to deny the existence of hell fire or eternal fire for judgement would be to call Jesus a liar, according to these verses?
  23. You have been moved to the theology section so I am eager to see what you have studied and learned.
  24. Collection of verses said to pertain to the topics of eternal security (OSAS) and eternal insecurity By Omegaman 3.0, July 12 in Soteriology
  25. Jesus will separate the sheep from the goats. He also promised us that all who seek to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. So we bear reproach with Him.
