  1. The answer to they question is yes: John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." 2 Peter 3:9 "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." Romans 10:13 "for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." The reality is though that not everyone will put their faith in Christ: Matthew 7:13-14 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Luke 13:27 - 28 "But he will reply, 'I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers! "There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out." What do you mean by this statement please clarify. I personally have never heard this statement before so I will take your word for it. However if I faith in Jesus Christ that means I have put my complete trust in his work on the cross and I have put my faith in the God who had promised me eternal life because I have put my faith in His Son(who is also God by they way). So yes because I am born again Jesus Christ knows me. Revelation 3:5 "The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels." Matthew 10:29-31 "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny?[a] And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." Romans 11:29 "For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable." Yes this would be the case. But sadly it will not be what actually happens. See my versus above. I would highly doubt it. A person who has faith in Jesus Christ would be saved. I am not really sure how you could separate the two. I can have knowledge of God and Jesus Christ but it doesn't mean that I have put my faith in Him. Knowledge is good but if you do nothing with the knowledge it does a person no good. So I don't believe faith can be separate from salvation because faith is required for salvation. Faith and faith alone is required. Ephesians 2:8 - 9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast."
  2. I don't have a problem with Christians being in the military. They should be a light to those in the military that don't know Christ. I know Christian military personnel probably have no desire to enter battle but if they do they will serve their country as they have been called to do.
  3. The answer to this 'hypothetical' scenario is only God knows. It isn't a true, false or I don't know answer. God alone knows the heart. Jeremiah 17:10. So regardless of the intent of this post the correct answer has been given and we all will stand before God and Will be judged based upon whether we trusted in Christ as our Savior or not. In the end I can't answer for someone else whether they are saved or not. I need to make sure that I myself have put my faith in Christ and then go out and tell others do what Christ has done for me.
  4. Tongues in the NT were languages that the people around them understood. It wasn't jibberish that seems to occur today with those that "speak in tongues". So with my understanding of what tongues are if let's say you are going to speak in Spanish and you are in a church that is all English speaking and there is no one that understands and can interpret Spanish then the one who wants to speak in Spanish needs to stay quiet or speak to the Lord by himself in that tongue. I am trying to figure out since when does a biblical tongue become some strange language that no one understands when in Acts 2:4 tongues were actual languages that people could understand and hear. "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." I don't dismiss that true tongues may exist but with how they are used today I have my doubts. I have been in churches where everyone was "speaking in tongues" but no one was interpreting and it sounded just like a bunch of silly noise. Sadly this is mostly the case in most churches that practice speaking in tongues. Since speaking or not speaking in tongues is not required for salvation or is a proof of my salvation I choose to not try and get involved with something that I quite honestly don't think exists in the way the NT apostles spoke in tongues.
  5. This debate will never end until we finally come face to face with our Savior. Yowm was correct in saying that older isn't always better or more accurate. I use both the KJV and the NIV and realize that they are translations. Translations tend to use terms and vocabulary that was bias towards those that translated the text. I know that the translators got as close as possible but neither the KJV, NIV or any other translation for that matter is entirely perfect. But I do recognize them as the Word of God and will live my life as best I can according to what God says in the Bible.
  6. I don't deny that. My point was what the Nicolaitans were teaching. The OP used the last part of the groups name Laitan and implied it meant "laity" which it does not. Actually the greek work used for the group was more along the lines of preparing food. I think they used food to worship idols. But that is my opinion based upon a little research of the Nicolaitans. There really isn't much information about the group. Quite honestly it really doesn't matter in the long run. The idea of the passage it that Christians in the church were holding to idolatry and were not staying true to the faith and Jesus Christ was condemning their practices.
  7. There really isn't much to describe the Nicolaitans but the idea is that this group of people were leading others into idolatry. I don't believe they had anything to do with lording over the laity or any such thing. The point being is that there were Christians holding to their teachings and heresies.
  8. I hope in all this discussion those that say who are saying we need to keep the Sabbath are not saying that if we don't keep the Sabbath we are not saved. Is this the case or is keeping the Sabbath a requirement for salvation or something we are required to do to maintain our salvation?
  9. So question: Do you follow the Law verbatim or do you pick and choose what parts of the Law to follow?
  10. I am interested in where the scripture is that teaches this as you say? I mean didn't Jesus himself ask the Pharisees when the questioned him healing on the Sabbath in Luke 14:5 "Then he asked them, "If one of you has a child or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?" But I really love the response of the Pharisees to this question in Luke 14:6 "And they had nothing to say."
  11. I can assure you it isn't wikipedia. Sometimes I think, and this is my opinion, that we Christians, including myself, try to look super hard into a meaning of something when quite honestly no really deep research is really required. I also find that some Christians dig into areas of the web for understanding that they will pretty much believe anything that something says. I mean we see this on facebook quite a bit. But back to understand scripture. There are plenty of great commentaries out there as well as find some good solid pastors that maybe have written books on this passage or whatever. My point was to make sure that we don't go to a source like Wikipedia to try and understand what God means in a passage.
  12. Here is a problem: You are using Wikipedia as a source for Biblical learning or understanding. I would avoid Wikipedia as a study source when it comes to learning about what the words mean in the Bible.
  13. Do you believe that we can lose our salvation or just trying to generalize a belief and not really stating the actually belief correctly?
  14. So in short, Christians still have a sin nature that gets in the way every once in awhile. Yes Christians are still people and people will disappoint you at some point whether they are Christians or not. Our trust shouldn't be in people but in God. God does not disappoint man does.
  15. I think this whole post is on the very verge of going into the gutter and sending our minds into places it shouldn't be. Personally I think the thread should be deleted but I am not in charge of that. Anyway I this is my last post in this thread.
  16. I can see that you are pulling scripture out of context and trying to add some spin to the scriptures that you have chosen to somehow try and prove some point that really isn't there or even implied. I would encourage using scripture properly and not make an application that isn't there.
  17. I really wouldn't read too much into this "discovery". The roman numerals were just a way that the Romans kept track of numbers. But no it is isn't prophetic in anyway and Romans numerals are certainly not the mark of the beast.
  18. My belief is that they were just extremely tall people compared to the average height of a person in that day. Goliath and Og were not giants like you see in movies, portrayed in fictional books and the like. Sometimes I think people let their imaginations run wild with this type of stuff and then try to fit scripture into their belief which isn't scriptural in the first place.
  19. No such thing. mythological creatures are make-believe ideas that man has come up with in their imaginations. Oh and not to mention none of this can be found in scripture.
  20. Looks like it was photo shopped. Also does it really matter? The only thing that makes this different from anyone else doing a similar selfie is that she is in a high profile position. Other than that no one would even bother noticing except close friends, family and whoever else you socialize with. My point is this: it is just a selfie no different than any other selfie. It was fun for her and if people think it looks fun then it looks fun. People have different ways of expressing themselves and she chose the selfie with a holiday flair.
  21. As a Christian it doesn't mean anything for me. Obama is just a man who is in the spotlight. People in the spotlight get all sorts of praise and admiration. But that praise and admiration doesn't count for anything in eternity. Personally I just see this article and shrug my shoulders. I just pray that Obama put his faith in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross before it is too late.
  22. Definitely incorrect: John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.(NIV)" I Corinthians 13:3-5 "For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. (NIV)" So yes the gospel can be reduced down to just one or two scriptures.
  23. I don't really they are demonic but more a figment of man's imagination. I am sure in some cases you may be correct but for the most part the "little green men" from outer-space is a man-made idea that. While I don't believe there is life outside of the planet we live on I do enjoy the occasional alien flick.
  24. You know some people don't have a choice but to put their loved ones in a nursing home and I can imagine it is not an easy decision. Some families just do not have the facilities nor the capacity to take care of their loved one in the way they need to. Nursing homes can be a good thing but we always hear the horror stories. We tend to look at those who have had to make the choice to put their family member into a nursing home as horrible people who don't seem to care for their family which is totally not true and a really unfair assumption. Now I on the flip side these horror stories also take place in the higher cost facilities, while maybe at a lower rate. My wife works in one of the higher costs facilities and it is just as sad. Where I maybe tend to judge people is when they put their family member into a home and then completely forget they exist or they don't want anything to do with them. This is really sad. I am not saying that is happening here in this discussion. These thoughts just came into my mind since it did have to do with nursing homes. Would I put my parent(s) into a nursing home? I would so hope that I would never have to make that decision. But I can guarantee you that if I had to it would be because I had to but I wouldn't neglect them and would visit them often.
