Who's right?who's wrong? Is anyone right
SisterActs2 replied to creativemechanic's topic in General Discussion
Hi Enoob and Other One Thanks for your input, and, with the greatest of respect, I quote: 1Tim 2:9 -"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness {or modesty of character} and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works," KJV. Paul is talking about the whole person here, I believe. Sure, the men have to be responsible for their own thoughts and in control of their own eyes etc. However, I think Paul also said (I am away from home and do not have all my Bibles etc. with me to find the correct reference) that if eating something offended anyone, he would not do it so as not to cause them to fall. Why help Satan tempt people? We are Christians and, as such, subject ourselves to the teaching of the Holy Spirit through our leaders as long as it lines up with the Word. Why should we not, rather, desire to protect our men at least while in church? There are enough things to distract us outside of church. Let us be holy, even as He is holy. King of kings and Lord of Lords! Glory, hallelujah! -
Hi Spiderman You know, the more time you spend thinking about what the devil does, the less time you have to love, thank, praise, worship and serve our wonderful Father, Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit who teaches us? These things you are talking about are essentially pointless - just do what really matters! Love and serve God with your whole heart, ask Him to reveal to you what He really wants you to do in the life we have here on earth. The time we spend here is an apprenticeship for heaven - nothing matters more than what you invest into the kingdom of God. Read the Word and follow His commandments.

Who's right?who's wrong? Is anyone right

Hi all I agree with No124get1952. As an older woman in my church I would talk to the leadership about approaching Judy within the first year, just to make sure we were all on the same page about myself or another older woman approaching her. It certainly should not be done by a man. Then, in love, explaining to her gently that she may be causing men in general to be tempted by her dress code. I always think, "what would I wear if I was to meet the Queen?". If I would dress up for the Queen, then think how much more would I want to honour our Lord? I may be old fashioned, but I believe women should be dressed in a manner that honours our Lord - covered neck to knee and not in a provocative way. I have been to some churches where people look like they are going to the beach or a bbq or something, in cut-off jeans, shorts or the like, and it amazes me that some people dont't want to dress up and look nice anymore. I want to honour our Lord and be chaste, but this doesn't mean we have to be in a suit or anything - smart casual is fine. It's our attitude responding to Who He Is. -
Will God hate me if I killed myself?

Yes, I will JoshuasonFlower. And, JTC, good to see your post brother. Chris, all of us are praying for you. Jesus died for you so you wouldn't have to. He took everything on Calvary for you, so you wouldn't have to bear it. He came to give you life abundant. Take it, dear one. He not only has the answers, HE IS THE ANSWER! -

Is it bad that I don't like Contemporary Christian Music?
SisterActs2 replied to holden92's topic in General Discussion
Hi and welcome Holden92 It may be because I am older, but my husband and I adore the hymns written of old, by people who seemed to have a gift. I find that, when we sing a hymn, my deepest longing for the Lord stirs within me. Often we drive for long distances at a time as we live 2+ hours from our nearest city - I rarely put music on as I like to concentrate on my Lord, and I never listen to the radio. However, I do have some secular music - people with beautiful voices, etc. I also enjoy music from the 60s and 70s like "Bridge over troubled waters" by S & G. And, I am an Elvis fan from way back! Who could not love that velvety voice. I often feel like quoting one of the lines from this song (quoted above) but always go to scripture instead, as, at the end of the day, God's words win over the words of men every time for me. God bless you brother. May you find many happy times and spend some great time here on Worthy. -
I Think I'm Having a Meltdown
SisterActs2 replied to JTC's topic in Have a problem? Looking for advice?
Hi JTC I have prayed for you with tears today. I, like you, get a lot of pleasure out of helping people in need. I believe this is part of what God wants me to do. Right now I am helping a young family with some basic needs. This youngish couple - he can't find a job, she has just had a major operation and has problems with one foot and one hand. They have two children - the boy has what is commonly called today "ADHD". I blame a lot of this on food additives etc. although mum tries to feed them properly, and dad is very helpful and tries his best. The other child - well, I am trying to help her. She is the younger one and needs "The Nanny". I am trying to be that to her but I have said to mum, she needs it followed through at home. She was born with a hearing problem and has had an operation on her ears. She wears a hearing aid but has very poor social skills (probably as a result of delayed behavioural learning). Other people at church seem to not want to help control her while church is on; although some try to love her. So it is left to myself (previously a primary school chaplain) and her mum to try to keep her under control. As her mum is a new Christian, I want her to stay in the church and listen to the sermon while I take the child out and play with her. This is difficult, I have to peel her off mum. Dad and son do not attend. The reason I am telling you this is because I want you to know that there is a lot of compassion out there for you with people such as myself and, believe it or not, if I had the money I would renew my passport, jump on a plane (I hate flying), find you and, with my dearest husband, give you a big hug and visit with you to show that there are people who want so much to be your friend. 1to3 has said it well. I am going to pray that God gives you that companion you so long for, but that that companion would always encourage you to find your fulfilment totally in God, and not ever think that another human being can give you what you really need most of all - full, complete, 100% trust in God our Saviour. It may seem that I am playing an old record but, dearest brother, it is absolutely true. Love you in Jesus' name today, tomorrow and in the kingdom to come. On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. -

Hi JTC I agree with Kwikphilly. Jesus loves you and I recognise that what she is saying is in absolute love. I know you have suffered so much. I have a lot of pain in my body too, but I believe Jesus took that on the cross for me. You have a lot of friends here who care so much about you, bro. Now you have a doctor talking to you. Praise the Lord for all the advice you have been receiving, and about Medicare too. We are all brothers and sisters and, because we are of the same body, when one member of the body hurts, other members hurt with that one in empathy. I don't know if anything I ever say helps you, but maybe what we all say will help somehow. We will continue to pray for you bro. In Jesus' precious name, God bless you. -
Hi HisFirst Sorry, sis. Not telling. It could have been completely fake news. A long time ago; could have been heresay. Just something I heard. Might even have been something the person said in jest.

How much more weird will the world get? May I venture to say............... worse than the days of Noah (thank you Davida). Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Hi Patriot You have made me lol. However, in the words of a famous tennis player, are you serious? I actually heard once that another famous tennis player decided that, as they couldn't find "the one" they married him/herself! I actually have seen a lot of crazy stuff about people in Britain (they probably exist in other places as well) who dress up in all sorts of ways and pretend they are an animal, or whatever. It is not only weird, it is delusional, and you don't have to be a doctor to come to this conclusion. Sorry.
-
JTC you have friends here. I am happy to pray for you a lot. You seem like a very nice person, and Worthy is God's gift to you right now. People do care about you. Just keep posting. There is also a lot of great stuff here to read, and some very funny people who will definitely make you laugh. I am so glad you have come back since the other day. Keep praising and thanking Him whenever you can. Don't look at the circumstances. Stay focussed on Jesus. I need Worthy for fellowship as well. God bless mate.

Hi JTC. Bro, I miss you, want to hear from you. Read Ephesians 6 where it tells us to put on the full armour of God. This is what I do when the enemy wants to hound me - I speak this out: I believe in Jesus. He died for me. He shed His blood on Calvary that I might be made free. You have no rights. No right to harrass me. He is my righteousness and He has forgiven me all my sin. I am free because of what He has done. I love Him; He abides in me and I abide in Him. Get away from me now. I praise Jesus. I love and praise God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. I find the enemy flees because he hates the name of Jesus. Keep praising the Lord. Keep thanking Him for all He has done. Keep worshipping Him in every way you can. Give Him all your problems - say, "here, Lord, please take them all - I know you took them on Calvary for me". And having done all, stand. I am about to buy the book "Pilgrim's Progress" for two people I care about to read. Have you read this, my brother? All the best and I will keep praying for you.

Hi D-Dawn I have come back after a day or so's absence to find that other brothers and sisters (thank you all) have answered the questions you have asked me. I am sorry I couldn't answer you earlier myself. I have to admit that I didn't want to quote the verses in 1 Cor.12, as Marilyn C. had talked about the difference between private prayer languages and the one reserved for prophecy in the Church. At the time of your question I had not been able to formulate my answer to you succinctly enough to make the point, and needed time to think about it. Verse 10 says, in my NASB, "and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills." Now, you would have to hear/read my full testimony to understand my reasons for believing that my gift of tongues is from The Lord. It is too long and involved to give here. It us up to you my dear sister, whom I highly respect for your questions: thank you; as to whether or not you agree or disagree. I will respect you no matter what. With regard to the testing of the spirits; we are told to do this. Of course we must be very aware of the nature of the evil one - the thief comes to kill, steal and destroy. We must be absolutely sure that something is from God before accepting it into our lives. Jesus said in Matt: 24:4 "See to it that no one misleads you." We must be ever vigilant, on guard, as there are many false teachers around now. There are many members of the body of Christ. Some will pray in tongues; some won't. It is all okay whether you do* or don't. PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME. *Make sure it is of God, of course (you will know).

Hi Wayne222 and Willa To Wayne - I have never watched the WalkingDead, so can't comment. Don't know the content, but, judging from the name, it is probably not something I would watch. Personal preference only! To Willa - lol re the cactus story. With our customs department on the lookout for all things foreign (thank goodness) I don't know if the lady would get away with it now. Thank you for the helpful thoughts on post knee surgery exercises. I read them out to him. I also cheer for the underdog. I am finding that, with the amount of Australians getting on board with the LGBT lobby, campaigning for "gay" (not same gender, which is the correct term) marriage in Oz, there is more and more acceptance of homosexuality and lesbianism on TV. It is being promoted on a grand scale now, with the result that I am turning off more and more. Added to this, I have to keep changing the volume depending upon which channel I am on. Also, the amount of repeated content, the amount of ads (our recorder does not work), the boring content etc., the repetition of news, the absolutely inane shows etc., means I give up and go to bed! (After Escape to the Country of course!)

For myself, in the scripture above (Mark 16:17-18). However, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. So, why wouldn't He (by the power of the Holy Spirit) give me the same gift He gave those at Pentecost? I believe I have the same gifts from God as those in Acts 2, hence my name.
-
I agree pretty much with Gary Lee. I have been to plenty of churches where I seem invisible to the regulars. Maybe we are not meant to be there (pray and ask God to direct us to the right one). Any homosexual person in our church would have to be encouraged to seek to change through relationship with Jesus or I would be out of there.

I was born again into a charismatic church in 1978. Four months or so after that I was baptised in the Holy Spirit. At that time, I began to speak in my own heavenly language to God, and this language has never changed. When I cannot express myself deeply enough to God in English, I begin to pray to Him and it always uplifts me and has done for 39 years. I am in a pentecostal church now, and all our leadership have the same gift (own tongue). Mark 16:17-18 says "And these signs will accompany those who have believed: 'in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, {we do not test the Lord by doing this on purpose of course} and if they drink any deadly poison,{by accident of course} it shall not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.'" I am completely comfortable about this and continue to follow the Lord and His commandments. My pastor is a solid Word man and listens to the Word on his Ipod all the time. I do not believe this is a salvation issue at all. I have known a lot of beautiful Christian folk who do not speak in tongues and I have great respect for them, knowing that they are saved and serving the Lord, He is first in their lives and they love Him. I remember encountering a group of people who believed that if you didn't speak in tongues you weren't saved. They were in error.

I really enjoy the real estate shows, but not too much "flippin houses". It gets a bit much, like when I go to Op Shops too often. I get a bit bored with it after a while. My fave shows are "Gardening Australia" as I love gardening..... Escape to the Country (when I view that English countryside I dream of heaven).....Restoration Man (George Clark) etc. I have stopped watching that amazing BBC drama. I like mystery and intrigue, but there's too much stuff that's not uplifting. My husband likes his Rugby (a long time ago he was a Kiwi). It's our way of resting our weary bones. He's in for a partial or total knee replacement soon.

Hi all, Romans 3:23 states "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,". Jesus is the only exception; being conceived of the Holy Spirit. Mary was an ordinary human being; born into inherent sin, just as we are. God simply chose her to be the vessel through whom Jesus entered the world. I believe RCC beliefs to be non-biblical.
-
I agree with Bob and the additions of OneLight.
-
Hello all of you who agree. Thank you all so very much. I have to admit to a loud WOW when I read Shiloh's and OneLight's accounts of what was happening with Hillsong - having to explain to my husband why I was exclaiming so loudly. What does "naked cowboy" mean? Did he really get ??? in front of Christian women? And they went along with it? And for a Christian church to condone allowing homosexual people to "minister" - I am gobsmacked. I did not know this stuff. It has become obvious in recent years that the apostasy is developing rapidly but.......... kinda makes you feel very, very sad. I will certainly boycott Hillsong from now on. Don't want anything to do with that kind of thing. The prosperity lie is an old one (since the 80s/90s?) I am in total agreement that a lot of churches are now bowing and scraping to effect what is basically a humanistic world view in their establishments, and, not satisfied with this, they are also turning to occult practices like "Christian" yoga and meditation and "Chrislam". Ohh, what a shocking indictment on people who are supposed to be introducing others to King Jesus. He did say false teachers would arise and lead many astray.....

Hi Marilyn Tell me where Brian Houston is going wrong? I occasionally catch him on Sunday mornings but have never heard him preach false doctrine. Am I missing it? Please help. Thank you. I will also check out the Bethel link.

Why We Should Mourn for the Copts, But Not Assume They’re Christians
SisterActs2 replied to a topic in Theology
Hi all I went back to Page 1 and re-read what Shiloh said. I cannot find anything mean spirited or judgemental in what he has reported. He has simply reported the facts of the situation. Every time I see the persecution and death of people on TV or read about it, all I can think is "I hope they knew Jesus". It is true we can't know whether or not people, in their hearts, are true believers. I saw the priest saying good things about not retaliating etc., and he appeared to have the right doctrine about forgiveness. He seemed like a true Christian. However, we still do not know for sure. I know when I got born again. I had a revelation. I had been searching for a while and Jesus revealed Himself to me in a moment of time. I suddenly realised "Jesus Christ is the Truth!" It hit me. It was like a spark igniting my spirit, making it alive. I became alive in Christ. He made His abode in me. Nothing can change that. Then a couple of months later I got baptised in water. The old man died and the new one came up out of the water. It was another dynamic experience. True repentance happened as well. Then a couple of months later I was kneeling by my bed and God baptised me in His Holy Spirit. He gave me two visions. Nothing can change that. Three separate experiences. I believe that when Jesus said, "You must be born again", He meant just that. Nothing else can get one into Heaven. The passage in John 3 states that categorically. Obviously it happens differently for all of us, as we are individuals, but we must be born again. Only God knows who are His; being discerning and perceptive does not mean we are being judgemental. -
Hello brothers and sisters I wholeheartedly concur with shiloh357. Just a small point - why would Mary not have gone on to have other children? Of course she did. She was a married woman. (Maybe someone has already said this.) The Bible calls her blessed. However, I also am blessed, having been born again and now a daughter of the Most High.
