Accepted by faith without understanding
Fraught replied to Ddavid from NC's topic in General Discussion
yes - eternal punishment, or hell if you like. altho to my discredit, i'm still unsure the concept is totally scriptural. ok, i'll go with election too. -
i wonder if this has to do with the honeybee situation. do bees pollinate wheat also? i'll see if i can find this out.

i haven't had the opportunity to read that book but i really feel like those of us who are saved should be healthy and whole physically as well as spiritually. why are we not? there must be a reason.
-
no but thanks for opening the opportunity for me to have a title for my beliefs: historical premillenialism - sweet !!

That's not what I meant. I didn't mean all artsylady's beliefs were hypocritical, I just meant I find it weird that she and other creationists demand more and more proof of evolution despite the mountain already presented when she is willing to accept her 'assertion' on the basis of a hunch. The same goes for Giaour's guess that "we got different skin colors and eye colors when God scattered mankind all over the earth." What is this based on? I can guarantee that it is based on less than evolution, yet here their hypotheses stand, accepted. i guess it depends on whether you think that common sense is 'less' than evolution. if common sense is too simple a concept for you, substitute inductive or deductive reasoning.

another take on this subject involves the whole idea of being born again. before i was conceived, i wasn't really alive. a recurring thought of mine is that there are other walking, talking humans on the planet but if they are not born again, they are not really alive in God's eyes the same way you and i are alive. could be considered controversial maybe but then again being born again means having God's spirit within. the opposite side of the coin would be not being born again equals not having God's spirit within. something to think about anyway.

we are all innocent victims, are we not? what horrible trials has even the murderer faced that leads him to such inhumanity? i find it easy to forgive when i realize that i share common ancestry with every other human on the planet. granted, i have to try hard to find this perspective at times but i have faith that it will become easier with practice just like everything else. sometimes it's the small things that get me as i am in customer service and the stories i hear are often not pretty at all. there are people that i would just like to reach thru the phone line and shake some sense into them. even the old guy that wouldn't even walk a mis-delivered package across the street to his neighbor i had to call fed-ex to pick it back up, he wanted to chat it up at the end of the conversation - to me, his refusing to do this kindness was just as atrocious in its way as a lie or a theft. i was angry but he wanted to chat with me at the end - a total stranger! now i have to look at his loneliness even knowing his ways most likely brought it on himself, it's still pathetic, isn't it? thoughtlessness abounds and rebounds all over the earth. if you took note of all the thoughtless acts that go on thoughtlessly, you would want to give up if you didn't realize God sees them all and who else even notes these in order to grant the forgiveness and still He is not willing that any should perish. amazing. the world needs saved, the christian realizes. if there weren't people doing wrong, the world wouldn't need saved, i guess and no one would need forgiveness.

Fraught replied to Fraught's topic in General Discussion
so far on this board, ben stein has been endorsed as well as ted nugent. remember that? i think we can write in anyone we want. now we can't be accused of not voting. LOL -

& if you think: Are you tired of being "The Silenced Majority?" If you think maybe it's time to think outside the Politically Correct Box, let us know. If you are sick of being pushed around because you are a person of faith, let us know. If you think free speech applies to people of faith, too, e-mail us. If you think the military wife deserves more respect than Lindsay Lohan, let us know. If you think the guys and women in the ground at military cemeteries deserve more respect than the hedge fund traders and Wall Street looters, let's hear from you. then check this out: http://www.benstein4president.com/why_ben_stein/ yeah, i'm not totally serious. i was searching for that documentary and trying to get a release date (i remember it was this month sometime) and ran across this. back to "expelled, the movie", when & where is the release date. so far i haven't found it but i wanted to remind everyone about it anyway. i'll keep looking or maybe get an answer here.

a quote by albert einstein: "Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." from national geographic news: Yet scientists may be just as likely to believe in God as other people, according to surveys. Some of history's greatest scientific minds, including Albert Einstein, were convinced there is intelligent life behind the universe. Today many scientists say there is no conflict between their faith and their work. "In the last few years astronomy has come together so that we're now able to tell a coherent story" of how the universe began, Primack said. "This story does not contradict God, but instead enlarges [the idea of] God." beware, tho, the article still favors the theory of evolution but my point is the idea of God in the mind of scientists. the link, if you're interested is: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/20...e_religion.html

"I'm a Christian" do u take them at their word?
Fraught replied to Ddavid from NC's topic in General Discussion
Shalom, EXACTLY. We can look at fruit, but we can in no wise ever know their heart and know if they are truly saved. There are people who exhibit "good fruit", yet are not born-again. There are people who are born-again Christians who need to clean up their act. We need to stay FAR away from making judgments about someone else's salvation. i agree with much of what you say but that 2nd sentence does not apply. there is no fruit to bear apart from the vine. we know that. we know the vine is Jesus Christ . no vine, no fruit. yes, i noticed you put fruit in quotes most likely meaning good deeds, selfless acts, etc. that's true but even so, these things would not be good fruits. -
i see where you're coming from - i guess fundamentalism has gotten a bad rap. that's a shame because of the real definition: being or involving basic facts or principles; "the fundamental laws of the universe"; "a fundamental incompatibility between them"; "these rudimentary truths"; "underlying principles" or as paul put it, "Jesus Christ and Him crucified".

Have anyone read Battlefield of the mind?
Fraught replied to Jacqueline's topic in General Discussion
i have read it and actually still re-read parts of it every now and then. there were some things in it that were very helpful for me. this book made me aware of certain destructive thinking habits. like joyce, i did not know that i could actually control the things i thought about. now i am able to objectively weigh my thoughts and determine whether they are true and if not, what has made me think that way. i was absolutely amazed at some of the wrong assumptions i had going on in my head that were influencing my life. -
Hey Kat, Since McCain has over 600 delegates now, I would say, he has just cause to think we are really stupid, (as a party). I will not vote for him, I'd rather see Clinton or Obama in the White House than a Republican imposter. I won't vote for either of them, I'll just cast my vote to an independent or constitutional party candidate. If McCain makes it to the White House, it won't be from my vote. He doesn't have the conservative support he needs to win the Presidency and I think most of us are tired of holding our noses while we vote on our principles. But, how can we vote on our principles if the person chosen to represent our party doesn't share them? If you looked at the primary votes, I think the Democrats voted 2-3 to 1 Republican votes. If McCain becomes the nominee, we can be certain that Hillary or Obama will become the next President. i share your perception and i'm one more that would cast for independent or constitution. i just listened to mary madelin, a republican strategist lamenting with glenn beck on headline news about this very thing. and in agreement with axxman's post, glenn beck was saying on his show that the republican candidates were more like democrats and the democrats were more like socialists !!! but what's wrong with huckabee

i clicked the link. i believe it would be interesting + life-changing. the life-changing part, frankly, frightens me. will watching this video compel me to change my entire outlook on our american way of life and thus the way i live? i am afraid it will. i am already in some despair over our direction. too much that is going on does not seem to make sense. i can just almost sense another power behind it all. surely human beings acting on their own could not continue to make such bad decisions. even more depressing? maybe they could. i may be forced to take a news-break for at least a month. i look forward to seeing this video as soon as i work up the nerve.

WN: Born Again Christians Favor Democratic Candidates, Says Survey -
Fraught replied to WorthyNewsBot's topic in U.S. News
i agree that the news is slanted in favor of the dems but also in favor of certain republicans over others. it is my feeling that if mccain or romney get the nomination, we will have a democratic pres. i know i would be hard-pressed to vote for either of those republicans. i cannot imagine that if america truly wants a change, they would go for those 2 guys. i find it very upsetting tho that the cable news is so incredibly slanted. i have been watching a lot! in clips of the repub debate, over and over i see 40% of the time given to mccain, 40 to romney, of the remaining 20%, ron paul gets maybe 1% and huckabee the rest. -
food for thought, yes. thanks richard. may i sum up your post as agreeing that the 'time' referred to may not conclusively mean one year? i am aware of it being the current understanding of the verse, of course. unfortunately, i am one that does not just stop at a meaning that i like and not consider further revelation. we don't want to forget that 'the book was sealed up until the time of the end'. i hope that more enlightenment comes the way of those of us who are interested.
