Hey, my name is Josh, and I'm 17. I just have a weird question about bible reading, how much time do you spend reading the bible each day? Is there a minimum amount of time that we should spend reading the bible or can we just read it for thirty seconds then put it down? Because I only read the Bible for like 5 minutes each day and I don't know if it's enough or not. What do you people think?

I ever heard of "timed Bible reading" before. Most people go by reading a chapter or more a day, or if they follow the "read through the Bible in a year" outline by how many chapters are laid out for each day, or something like that. Another approach is to study a concept or a passage, which wold involve cross-referencing and other stuff - so time would just be what is needed to get the job done.

But, hey, even a little bit is better than none!

What do you want to do for a living when you grow up? Do you want to be a doctor? Lawyer? Accountant? Could you learn any of these trades by reading only a couple of minutes a day?

Your relationship with God is infinitely more important than a job. Your pursuit of this relationship should be treated acordingly.

Hey Josh, how are ya ? Here's what will really help.....set a time of the day and stick to it....and do it every day. Pick a half hour or hour time block ( or whatever you are led to ). No TV, no video games, no computer; just you and the Lord. Pray before & after because you will find suddenly all sorts of distractions are going on to keep you from reading.

Also, get involved in the topics here & back your beliefs up with scripture....that way you are forced to dig deep into the Word and not only will you learn what you are researching for your post, you will come across all sorts of things you weren't even looking for.

Great to see ya back! Hope all is well :P

In His eternal and never ending love,

Bob

John 5:39, "Ye search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me."

Man is made of three parts: the body, the soul and the spirit. Yes man has a human spirit.

The bible says, "God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and reality (truth)." And Jesus said, "No one comes to the Father except through Me."

Assuming that you have a rejuvenated spirit (that you are saved), you must exercise your human spirit to contact God.

Our desire in coming to God's word is to contact Him (eat of the tree of life) and take in something of Him. If our desire is to simply have knowledge we are eating of the wrong tree, the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Pray and ask the Lord Jesus to guide you in your quest that you may know His love, will and eternal purpose. :P

Hey Josh- there is very good advice in here! Here our my suggestions- to elaborate on the one-year plan, go buy a one-year Bible. Mine is actually chronological, so it helps keep things in perspective.

Pick a version you are comfortable with- I usually use a NIV for reading/studying and I read the "Message" version for fun, I guess you can say. The Message is put in very contemporary terms so it's easier for younger people to understand. I have always been confused on Revelation, but the other night I read it in the Message and it was so much easier to understand and visualize and it took about 30-45 minutes or so for me to read the whole book!

Make sure you have a good Bible- especially one with study notes. That way if you run into something you don't understand, it explains it for you and gives you other verses to cross-reference. Sometimes I'll read it in my NIV and then read it in the Message to bring it home. There are tons of versions- go to Bible Gateway, pick a verse, and then read it in all the other versions to see which one you would like the most. Here is the link:

http://biblegateway.com/

One last thing, you can always pick up a book on devotions. I'm reading "An Appointment with the King" by Joel Comiskey- it gives you ways to jump start your devotional life. Hope this helps!!! :P

Jesus Christ Son of God, have mercy7 on me, a sinner.

In five minutes a day you probably can read an averate of about 1.5 chapters. At that rate you will read the Bible through in approximately 2 years. Up it to 10 minutes a day and you will have read the Bible through in 1 year.

The most important thing is to discuss and live what you read.

With a blessing,

Leonard, a sinner

Hi Josh

Reading the Bible... is the best way to understand the heart of G-d.

I read the Bible a lot because I am desperate to know the ways of the L-rd.

When I read I get personal revelation to my spirit about G-ds Truth...and I realize that it is a spiritual encounter with the Living G-d.

Above all I read prayerfully and expectantly because I know it is Life.

Pro 2:1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

Pro 2:2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

Pro 2:3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

Pro 2:4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

Pro 2:5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

Pro 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Pro 2:7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

Pro 2:8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

Pro 2:9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

I have to agree with this too. If it is important to you then you will do it. Some days I find it hard but I pray that God will give me an unquenchable desire to learn more about Him. Like Born, I use a one year bible and mine is chronological as well. I read the NLT version and it makes it like a story book and I have gotten alot of joy from reading it. It usually takes me 15 minutes or so but sometimes I like to read other versions along with it to dig a little deeper.

I have noticed i read and study alot more since i have come to worthy, this is great place to fellowship and drive yourself to study so you can participate and help others with there questions.

You need to desire to study and read the bible, if you are forcing yourself to do it odds are you are not going to get much from it.

If this is the case you may wanna ask yourself why you feel you have to force yourself? is it because you have trouble understanding the scripture? your not sure how to research topics? This is when you may wanna get ahold of a good study bible that can help you decipher things and bring them to light in your life.

I used to have all the problems i listed above, but the more i prayed and the more i studied the easier things became.... My scoffield study bible helped a great deal as well..

God Bless,

Dave

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
