I used to love horror movies in my teen years, but I have grown out of them and really I think they are mostly either dumb or disturbing. Why bother?

I like to watch horror movies (I skip the ones with girls getting naked for no reason before they get killed, so my choices are slightly limited at times)

Garith, I got a real laugh at the way you put this. I'm sorry to sidetrack the thread, but it really struck me as funny.

If you skip the ones with girls getting naked for no reason, does that mean you watch the ones that do have a good reason to get naked..... I am assuming that isn't what you meant, but with life being so crazy these days, I really needed a good laugh tonight.

All movies of this nature are very dark and usually disturbing and because Hollyweird doesn't think there is enough horror in the world already - they usually go way overboard on that, too. I don't know why anyone would spend the money to watch this stuff.... go buy ice cream!!!

People like to be scared, that is human nature. But it's not just Hollyweird, it's the whole entertainment industry. Its excessive liberalism (or libertarianism) I find just as repulsive as excessive conservatism. Social and political extremes always turn me off.

I used to watch horror movies then our Daddy reminded me of this verse

God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (1 Ti 1:7)

He asked me why am I inviting something in that He has not given me. From then on (about 4 years ago) I can't watch them.

Yes that movie was preverted, but what you expect from a genre that is against God in the first place. Maybe you should ask our Father what attracts you to horror.

I never used to watch them because they freaked the flippin bejeebies out of me. I got enough spiritual oppression as a child to let more in by opening those kinds of doors - and God never really gave me a choice until I was a teenager because of the fear. And then I knew not to touch it.

But if I had that kind of reaction (terrible nightmares) from the spirits behind the movies that had just gotten access to me - as a child. It's not like spirits won't attack other christians deliberatly watching that stuff. Except it won't necessarily come as obvious fear, straight away - it'll come in things like depression, and hate and anger that can lead to violence ect. We can't sin and expect it to affect others but not ourselves.

It's like you're watching death and demons and murder and rape and fear for fun. You're entertaining yourself with evil.

We can't do that and walk away, just like we can't commit any other sin and walk away. Sin might look innocent on the surface, but darkness is from the devil. All sin is.

I know some people love horror movies. But some people love porn as well. (And homosexuality and money before love and whatever other big sin you want to insert in the above space.)

Sin hurts us and other people. That's why it's sin. Loving darkness is loving the devils work. We can't get around that. - Like ruck1b said, why don't you ask God what is attracting you to horror movies in the first place?

Another poster already quoted this - God is light and in him there is no darkness. Also 'for what fellowship can light have with darkness'. It's repugnant to God.

Evil is evil is evil. (For someone who has had dealings with bona fide satanists (me) - and spoken to victims who've survived them - this whole subject is just not funny.)

Evil spreads. And if we make place for darkness in our lives, it will just find ways through us to touch others - the same as faith.

I think probably because I have witnessed true evil and things that most people are fortunate enough not to see or work in... Hollyweird is getting ... weirder... and I watch the faces of some of the people who come out of movies sometimes and there's just this... "dead" look... I like good mysteries, I like good drama, I love a great love story .... but just blood and gore and horror and evil? I think it robs the Spirit... I truly do.

I had the misfortune of stumbling across a horror flick while in a motel room last Fall. It wasn't to my knowledge a horror network (BET, for goodness sake) and I had no idea what was coming. I watched in disbelief as a totally disgusting scene played out (against a white woman btw). It took me many days to get the power of that image out of my head.

The depiction of evil confirms our worst inclinations if our guard is not strong and if it is not done in the context of good eventually triumphing. That is why those who are weak (and the Bible warns all of us to take heed because anyone can fall) can be tragically influenced.

On the societal level, we need to note that this trash is now being piped into living rooms and (pre)teen bedrooms via TV, video games, and pop lyrics, at the same time that the family has taken an historically unprecedented hit. We've lost the culture, and consequently the younger generation is up against challenges of which we never dreamed.

When I am away from home I sometimes just leave the tv on for some of that so called "white noise" so that other noises in hotel rooms don't wake me..... I don't know what movie it was but this person was getting with it with this chain saw about two am in the morning when I woke up from the unusual niose it was making with the body it was working on...... Clearly not a good thing at that time of the day, or any other really..... but especially waking up to that.....

It took me a really long time to get that out of my system. Many nights I woke up after that dreaming about the carnage..... I don't understand why anyone would watch that in the first place. It was like going to the slaughter house and watching them kill pigs and cows....... Probably wake up tonight just from thinking about it.

I seek and desire peace and love in my life and I try to let that serenity and grace shine forth - I don't want my spirit bruised by horrors that I don't have to face.

I feel the same way. I don't want any conflict and certainly no violence. I am a peaceful man.

Last horror movie I watched was Gothica about 3 years ago. My husband and I both watched it and were very disturbed and couldn't sleep. We prayed and asked forgiveness for watching it and asked God to help us to sleep and to give us peace. Immediately my entire memory of the movie was erased and I went to sleep and haven't watched one again since. I couldn't tell you a thing about it. That was some sort of miracle that night I am sure.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
