When I read the scripture below today, I thought of so many who are deceived by things like horoscopes,Quiji boards, these new rising t.v. programs with psyics, and the new craze Harry Potter...some even are deceiving themselves by believing there are good wizards and good witches as well as bad...thats what this sort of so called literature does to young minds and minds not grounded in God's word. If we begin to think it is just a movie, or just a show so it can do no harm, thats a lie the devil likes. God's word tells us not to even think about the things done in secret by those who do such evil...and if we have it right in front of our eyes we are definately not doing what the Lord said. And He said it because it gets into our spirit...as a man thinks so is he...so it is not good to fill our minds with all the stuff coming at us through t.v. and movies, and even our computers because it really is harmful whether one believes it or not.

Fellow Christian, if you are having trouble with any of the stuff being pushed on us through media these days, take heart and listen to what the Lord says about it.

But God says,

De:18:9: When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

De:18:10: There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,

De:18:11: Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

De:18:12: For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

De:18:13: Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

De:18:14: For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

EVEN COMEDY CAN HAVE A BAD AFFECT AT TIMES

I was flicking through the channels one night this past week and stopped at a comedy routine I thought looked funny. About 2 minutes later I was in tears because of the filth I witnessed. I had just watched a movie I thought was a comedy the night before and it was so horrible I cannot even talk about it, but the horror of it did not present itself until the movie was near the end, now this so called comedy which turned my stomach...my t.v was ()this close to the trash can! Remember what we used to say often about drugs...JUST SAY NO! It works well with the stuff we put into our minds, too.

The Christian station in my area has now been replaced with sports t.v. since July 12th has come and gone. That was the deadline for HD conversion...just one more things that lets me know one thing I am sure of...the time is ripe for our Lord and we need to be looking for Him to return!!

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY SCRIPTURES TO STAND ON CONCERNING THIS SUBJECT

Wow..I am so happy that there are others who feel this way...our church believes similarly...many people in our congregation don't even have a television. We do have one but are careful of what we watch. But i also agree with Believer who said that we can become desensitized-that happened to me a few times. It is so difficult to find clean programmes, movies, etc.

I think it depends on the individual. I watch TV, today I watched an excellent rugby game, and a documentary about the Sun from a series called The Universe. I learned some stuff I never knew, and saw again how awesome our God, it's creator, is.

I try to be very selective, too and there are some wonderful things on t.v. and internet... but, like Pandora's box... there is much evil, too. I love nature shows and history and religion documentaries... I like some "classic" t.v. too...

I like Harry Potter! :whistling: Anyway, I agree with what someone else was saying, things like, tv, music, etc. are just tools and it's just matter of how we use them and what we allow ourselves to participate in.

I wonder though.... is changing the channel really the answer? Sometimes, I think that we've all become so desensitized to things that are wrong. There are things that started happening on t.v., radio etc... that we were initially shocked by, but we just ignored it, turned it off. The problem is that so many other people ... didn't ... and they started a daily diet of demoralization until it was - normal and accepted. This creeping fungus of vileness started permeating every single thread of the fabric which makes our society. We are told that these things that once shocked and amazed us are normal. My heart ached the first time one of my innocent little children asked me what a 4 letter word meant... I wonder if the pendulum will ever swing the other way. God Help Us. :noidea:

Hey sis...

The world was VERY evil before tv came along. They had bad words before tv too. If anything, tv keeps us from pretending it doesn't exist. We can't just hide our heads in the sand and pretend the whole world is awesome anymore. I will agree that we can get desensitized to things...but thats kind of a personal choice too. You can't blame the box for reflecting what the world is. If gays didn't exist they wouldn't pop up on every other tv show...but they do exist and they do pop up. Drugs, drinking, sexual immorality on tv are a reflection of the world and it is definitely ugly at times.

TV's, DVD's, CD's, Movies, Books, Computers and such are just tools. We can use them for good or for bad. It is our choice how we use them. They are not bad by themselves. It is how they are put to use that is either right or wrong. We can either use them for sin or we can use them to glorify God! The choice is ours to make.

i agree with this. i can live without tv though. i used to live with my friend and she has 2 tvs and we hardly watched it. i just always find something else better to do. but when i do watch, i like watching food network and the travel shows, among others.

however, when i am on vacation in my brother's house, i have movie marathons. i can lock myself up in my room and watch movies all day! i guess it's because i don't have much to do in houston! :noidea:

I agree and disagree Axx.

Hollywood is run and organized by people who have intentionally taken America and the world down immoral paths. They intentionally "pushed the envelope" on morality until it was "accepted," and then 'pushed the envelope" even further. In the 70's, I remember 4-letter words still being considered taboo; now I hear young people mouthing off such words passing me in the Mall. I blame Hollywood. Another example - when was the last time you saw a comedy made or a "kids movie" made that had absolutely no "bathroom humor" in it?

Hollywood may reflect the world, but they reflect the world they want, not the reality of it. For example, have you seen any Christians being Christians, loving the Lord, remembered for being a good example, etc. in TV or movies?

Very true OneLight, even the Bible itself has been twisted and used for evil by some!

You got that right Scarlet.

This is so true. Praise God! When I was first saved the Lord through His Holy Spirit taught me this. Of course, through the Word. "I will set nothing wicked before my eyes..." (Psalms 101:3 NKJV) After I read this I got rid of my TV and went through my CDs and books and got rid of anything that did not give glory to God. When I was reading the bible one day I came upon where the Lord talked about driving out all the Canaanites. The people didn't drive them all out and eventually they were influenced by the Canaanites pagan ways and abandoned God. I see this as the same for our lives; God tells us to clean up our camp and get all the evil things out of it, but if we do not listen to God and do exactly what He says then we will suffer the same problems as the Israelites did.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
