Might I add a note that I am not a follower of Pat Robertson. Some of the things he teaches and does are no better than Benny Hinn or the other WOF's.

My main purpose for posting on this thread was just that I detest the way the news media can take a piece of video and edit it to twist it into things that were not really said within the context of the whole thing.

I would never of gotten involved in this discussion except for the fact I was disgusted at the way the media took what PR said and ran with it, distorting what he said, thereby making all Christians look bad.

I disagree. Pat has a huge prayer worrior group of people who watch his program daily and he often talks about things that need prayed for. If it were not for Chirs Matthews and Bil Oriley cutting his talk off at just about the worse point possible, I don't think any of this would be being discussed. Pat has discussed the Voodoo problem off and on for a very long time..... it's part of the reason he and his group is there.... spiritual batteling on their behalf.

his point wasn't on the voodoo problem. His comment was about the Haitian people making a pact with the devil to overthrow the french.

He said that the devil said "ok it's a deal."

actually, no, you're missing the point. the point wasn't the voodoo problem, nor was the point about some pact with the devil hundreds of years ago.

his point was that these people have a far deeper need than just the physical, and that they need restoration to God. that was his point, and that was his request... that everyone listening would pray to that end.

I kind of hesitate to expose you to that kind of information, but you obviously don't know much about voodoo. It's all part of the same thing. The religious practices of voodoo is what put them into the position to make that pact with the devil, and the practice of voodoo makes it possible to transfer that pact from one generation to another....... and the best way to do that is to keep the general population in the situation that they have been in for a couple of hundred years. Every time it looks like they might be able to break that cycle, disaster strikes over and over again.

For the past few years several different mission organizations have made some really good inroads into the population in general, and much of the physical accomplishments have been destroyed by the earthquake. We'll see how it effects them on the spiritual side of things and there is where our prayer can help. And help a lot from what our missionaries tell me.

and that was EXACTLY his point. they need prayer and long term help, and needed it BEFORE the earthquake too, which is why his ministries have been in the trenches in haiti for over a year already. his whole point was a call to prayer for these people. he was not passing judgment on them, he was pointing out that the spiritual condition that needs prayer as well.

I'm a Nazarene and we have and have had people there for a long time. Our missionaries have several churches around the area (which we don't know if are still standing) and as I understood from Church this morning have affected at least a hundred thousand people there by introducing them to Christ.

It seems that over the past years as the people there start to bring themselves out of the problems they have, some disaster comes along and destroys what is being built.

Personally I do believe the country is cursed, but it's not God that cursed it, it's Satan himself. I don't know if Satan can cause earth quakes, but it seems that major disasters happen there at the worst times. Some natural, some political some desease, but all there and not on the other half of the island where people seem to be living just fine.

Something is different in Haiti.

I completely agree. In context, paying attention to voice tone and body language, Pat was giving a call to prayer and intercession, not condemnation nor attributing cause. He didn't even say "this earthquake" in relation to the curse issue - just that they experience many troubles.

For perspective, I know what it is to live on cursed land. We haven't been able to discover or know what the specific curse was, but there's been so many bizarre occurances and the kinds of brokenness my family has undergone - it all adds up. (And yes, a few of us had individual revelation from the Lord that the ground/land/property area/whatever you would call it is cursed.)
