Where In The Bible Does It Say Gambling Is A Sin?

I've tried to find where in the Bible it says Gambling is a sin and I haven't had much luck. Even doing a word search I never found the word Gamble anywhere in the whole KJV Bible. I've heard that gambling is a sin. Can anyone tell me where in scripture it shows this.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks,

Zotah

my question to you is what is your motive to gamble. If your looking to win allot of money to give to the church then your going to go broke trying. God can provide for his people with out us losing what we have. If the spirit of God convicts you then don't do it. seek the answer from above and not man. money is the root of all evil. If it promotes evil then yes it's a sin in it's self. i.e. proceeds used to fund illegal activity, proceeds used to fund anti Christian events.

stay away from what is used to hurt the body of Christ. Do you see God in all this.

Gambling, per se ... is not mentioned in the Bible as a sin. The possibility of it becoming something sinful or displeasing to God is if one becomes so absorbed by the past-time to the exclusion of things that are important to God. A man supporting his family who becomes so addicted to gambling and fails to be the husband, father and Christian he is supposed to be. Gambling is a strong addiction and one that can cause the breakdown of homes, marriages, relationships and it can also foster anger, abuse, and other crimes to support the habit. I think that is when it OR anything else we put before God and our families becomes sinful and harmful. Do I think buying a lottery ticket is sinful - not in and of itself - but if you are spending money that supports your family or that should be going to the Lord on lottery tickets ... yes. If one craves the 'rush' they feel from gambling - to the exclusion of things that are pleasing to God - yes, it is a sin. imo.

I don't believe gambling is a sin in and of itself, but I do believe if one is not careful they can become addicted.

And, addiction can cause all sorts of problems that can eventually lead to all sorts of sin.

Motive is the key here. What is your motive behind the gambling?

"By their fruits you shall know them" - right?

What fruits come out of gambling?

Sure a lot of people have done good things with their earnings, but a lot have not as well.

And there is a lot corruption in the entire gambling industry.

And how many poor people dig themselves into deeper poverty trying to hit the jackpot?

No, it isn't a cut and dry issue. But it is dangerous territory. Tread carefully.

"You shall have no false god before me"

Anything we worship more than God is a false god. Money, sex, drink, power, etc.

Paul tells us to run when we see temptation for this very reason, it is so easy to fall prey to any of the above, so best to stay away.

But... Anything in moderation (OK, Ok not everything, but a lot of things). I think having the occasional beer, or every now and again taking a Lottery ticket, is not sinning. If it begins to affect your walk, your finances, your relationships, we are in another whole different ballgame.

So as Nebula so wisely said, tread carefully. And as Spurgeon said "Go nowhere you cannot go after having prayed first"

The soldiers at the foot of the cross of Jesus "cast lots" for his clothing. Sounds like gambling to me, and these were evildoers! They should have given his robe to his mother. God knows everything we do and there is no "chance" with him, so taking a "chance" on buying lottery tickets just shows your lack of faith in God. Many christians may buy a lottery ticket or scratch off card now and then and not feel convicted about it - but the best way is to put your faith in God.

There is "no-where" in scripture that tells us that gambling is a sin. I said, this in the other thread that there is no sin in putting a coin into a machine but we are told that there are some miry places that we should stay far away from lest we get stuck in the mire.

Ezekiel 47:11--But the miry places thereof and the marshes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt.

There are marshes and miry places that will not be healed and you don't want to get stuck in the muddy or miry places cause more than likely you want get out. I think the gambling casinos is one of the miry places we could get stuck in. By saying that as I said before there is IMO no sin in putting a coin in a machine but it is better not to get caught up with in it.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
