It makes me sad that there are so many so called "Christians" who would rather see the poor suffer than have one of there precious pennies allocated to the welfare of the poor.

America is surely doomed if they don't let go of the hand of mammon. :(

How much have you donated to your local charity or the Red Cross to help the "poor?" How many of the "poor" who are on the dole and really can't work, are disabled/handicapped do you give money to? How many homeless people have you invited to come mow your lawn so that they can earn money? How many homeless have you bought food for instead of giving them money? What the pity is is that people feel that it's the govt. responsibility to help anyone who has not paid into the system or is the spouse of someone who has paid into the system (social security) or is physically disabled or mentally disabled (SSD/SSI) who doesn't spend the money on booze or drugs.

I'm Canadian. I pay high taxes so the government can develop systems that help the poor. I was on that system only a couple of years ago. I don't have a lawn as I live in an apartment which I pay rent for. As far as my charitable ventures go, that is between me and God. Why is it better to support a government who coddles the wealthy than a government who reaches out to the poor.

I'm no Obama fan for other reasons than his healthcare ideas. I have no idea what living in the US is like, so I won't say whether his healthcare plan is feasible or not. I'll bet there are lots of poor folks who like what he's doing though.

Sadly, for every person that needs a handup another is waiting for their handout.

Honestly, I know of some people that live better than I do that are on public assistance. Then there are those that I don't begrudge getting a check...but I am of the firm belief that the "generational" handout mentality has GOT to be stopped. Its a sad and disheartening thing to digest when you hear so many brag about how they are taking the system for a ride and they are getting away with it.....

Forgot to add..I agree that charitable giving is between the giver and God.....

Perhaps the problem isn't the health care, it's the administration. I was just in Cuba a month ago and got a chance to speak with some of the locals. They were happy with the government for the most part. The only argument against it was the fact that they couldn't travel. In fact the US embargo against them has done the average citizen more harm than Fidel ever did. The children seem to suffer more than anybody there because there is little supply of infant goods. It's not wise or compassionate to be bitter towards the poor just because there are a few who are corrupt. The fat cats in Washington are stealing more of your money than the poor are.

That's an interesting perspective, Gerioke. We are told to help the orphans and widows....I assume that means all of the poor. I tend to agree that I'd rather have a government that cared about all the people than one who only cared about the rich.

Embargos always hurt the people more than the leaders because the leaders know how to hoard what little resources are available.

What about the cuban immigrants coming here. Theres quiet a few isn't there? If they are so happy with their gov why are they leaving? Or do you blame the US embargos on that too?

No where did I say I was bitter at the poor....thats putting words into my mouth that I didnt' utter. The ones that are corrupt are going to reap what they sow, I know this. But MORE has to be done to make the distinction so more of my (our) tax money can go where it is needed. Thats my beef with the govt, if your going to implement high taxes on me at least pass it to those in need...NOT crooks playing the system.

I would rather not pay high taxes to have the govt. "take care" of the poor and "disadvantaged." Lots of that help ends up being used to buy drugs and guns, not food, clothing and shelter. Our inner-city culture is one of drug use, violence and lack of respect for human life. Our system just breeds more poverty by encouraging fatherless families, no parental supervision, rewards uncontrolled procreation and crime. That is where our "help" goes. We in America, of whom by your own admission are not a part of, don't need a govt. bureaucracy taxing and spending our money for things which do not help the common good. This is the job of the individual, and private charities.

Unfortunately if the governemt does not attempt to take care of it, it doesn't get taken care of at all. That's what got welfare started in the first place. I can't tell you how many kids don't have the money for lunch when their parents smoki. But they would let their kids go hungry to buy cigaretts. So we have lunch programs

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
