Anyone ever read this period of history?

I'm zooming through 1 & 2 Sam, heading into Kings, and I'd like to keep going and finish the history contained in Maccabees.

Did you "fed" from it, or was it merely historical reading for you?

Thanks...

I don't consider it inspired either, just history, and perhaps not even perfectly recorded history.

I did feel weird about buying it, so I didn't. It just felt wrong.

When I got to my local Christian bookstore... the only copy of the Apocrypha on it's own was in a red hard cover thin book that looked IDENTICAL to the Communist Manifesto  .

I have a digital copy that will have to suffice  .

The Bible is silent from the time period of Malachi up until the prophet John the Baptist as he came on the scene preaching, "Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand."

This time period between the OT and the NT was 400 years and during these years the word of God was silent. The history of the Maccabees covers those 400 years you have to remember that this history is just that history and "not" the inerrant Word of God and "should not" be used to make doctrine out of in place of the scriptures.

It is the same with the apocraphal books they are not a part of the canon the 66 books of the bible being the innerant word of God and "should never" be used to make doctrine out of because it would be extra-biblical at that point.

None of this means that you can't read any of these books it just means those books are not scripture and should not be used as such.

Personally, I have read the first three of the books of Maccabees and was unsure that there was a fourth. I did however find it very interesting that the third book of Maccabees covered the history

of the Romans and in that history it went right on up to the Romans during the time of Christ.

Agreed sis. It is not inspired, nor used to make doctrine.

Maybe if people understood the book then they might understand Daniel.

All opinions are welcomed but not all are perfect.

Lets make this truth be known now.

No single bible is perfect in translating from Aramic, Greek, Old english to modern english.

Id rather read a book by Spurgeon or Wittfeild or.....than a Living bible.

Pilgrims progress is not in the bible yet is very inspireing, No extreemly inspireing.

And there are thousands of Holy spirit inspired works and books and writeings that are helpful.

And the New jerusalem bible is not acsepted by the popular majority of protastants ? Please.

The so called perfect KJV is flawed with many mistakes. 1st john 5:7..isnt even in the origanols.

And I could go all day with rants.

What good does it do to have a bible(inspired of God) and disobey it ?

Ive been on forums where members acuse others of Spiritual adultery if we read any other book but the bible.

Hog wash. There are millions of Christians around the world that never even see a bible and are better Christians than we. Dailey people are recieved christ and have no idea what a bible is.

2nd-ly, The bible contains Gods Words and Mans(many). We are to rightly devide it.

No bible is perfect. It is the Holy Spirit that gives life to the word.

The Apocrypha was sandwiched KJV between the Old and New Testaments as an appendix of reference material. This followed the format that Luther had used. Luther prefaced the Apocrypha with a statement:

"Apocrypha--that is, books which are not regarded as equal to the holy Scriputres, and yet are profitable and good to read."

King James Version Defended page 98.

You must jugde for your selves.

Note: I am not a chatholic nor do I support any Catholic doctrine or councel.

To be quite honest, I didn't know there was a 3rd and a 4th Maccabees....I've read most of the Apocrypha, and I consider it to be a collection of historical documentation....some of it factual, some of it...well...questionable at best. I believe that Y'shua and his talmudim would have known these stories as well. I enjoy the book of Tobit as well, for it's most interesting medicinal value...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
