Exodus 22:2
Christian Standard Bible
2 If a thief is caught in the act of breaking in, and he is beaten to death, no one is guilty of bloodshed.

Matthew 24:43
New International Version
But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.

I have owned guns since a child. I have often tried to place myself in a (mentally) in a position where when carrying would shoot a person to protect myself. Not sure what I could do. Its another matter to protect someone else. I am thankful, the Lord has not put me in that position.

My wife and I have experienced three attempted home invasions. The last one, the would be invaders hid on my property. (They tried to kick in my front door, leaving footprints on my door.) I had a Glock .40 caliber in hand as I hit the front door looking for the perps. I searched around our cars and bushes. My wife stayed at the front door with her Walther in hand. I found the first would be invader trying to get under my car. He didn't fit. I had him lay on the wet ground looking up at my gun pointing at his head. He appeared to be unarmed, so I felt God wanted me to let him go. So I let him go firing my gun safely behind him to run faster. I did the same with the second would be invader firing my gun behind him as he ran up the street. We then called the police who didn't come out since the incident was resolved and no one was hurt.

You can't do that here in Oklahoma.   When they start to run away you shouldn't shoot at them even to scare them.  Brandishing a weapon without using it for protection is against the law.

If you pull a weapon here, you need to use it....   but if you shoot an unarmed person God might get you if the DA doesn't.

If you understand the customs of that time, he's speaking of insulting someone, not threatening to kill them.   If someone insults you as was custom by smiting them on the cheek, turn the other cheek and let it go.  He's not talking about someone trying to harm or kill you.

Plus, most people who are shot don't die.

Close, but it is referring to the Roman army custom that Roman soldiers were permitted to strike a person once, but not twice. Likewise, a Roman solder could force a person to carry his gear for a mile (or stadia) but no further

That is the custom of the Roman solder, however I really don't see it speaking of them in the context of the whole chapter.

Of course there is the application of the principal, but the allusion is directly that of the treatment of the Roman soldiers to the subjugated people. The Romans were among the most hated people of the day, so the point of turning the cheek, or walking the extra mile is reinforced in how his followers were to treat one another. Common for Jesus to use such narrative choice, also seen in the parable of the good Samaritan.

Actually, the police in my area recommended the exact course of action I took when I reported the second home invasion attempt. Obviously my state/county is more enlightened.

I accidentally sprayed pepper spray on my hands, not realizing it was open cause I opened it while I was walking to have it ready. I have since gotten one that has a different way to open it, you slide your thumb underneath and it is ready to go.

Honestly, the psychological impact of knowing I sprayed pepper spray on myself might have been a little bit worse than the actual feel of the pepper spray on my hands. I can't really describe the way it felt, as I don't really remember, meaning it wasn't significant enough physical pain, rather than psychological, for me to be able to remember what the physical was like. If it had been my eyes, I would have most likely been on the floor.

The psychological impact of accidentally spraying pepper spray on my skin was worse than the actual pepper spray on my skin. If you do get pepper spray on your skin, I have googled to use dawn dish soap and use it for awhile, don't remember how long.

They psychological impact it had on me that I just accidentally sprayed pepper spray on my hands, was worse than the physical feeling. I still don't have much of a recollection of what it felt like on my skin. I remember kind of maybe like a dull pepper feeling, maybe, maybe a bit intense, like I rubbed out of date peppers on my skin. It wasn't unbearable enough for me to remember the feeling, rather than the thought of it.

As for a gun, I want to mount a shot gun on the wall above the tv in the main part of the house, but not necessarily load it, or even buy bullets. I would like to go to a shooting range, but I am scared I will be as klutzy with the gun, as I was with the spray,................

@believeinHim I guess with these things it's the element of surprise that one remembers, whether with spray or guns......

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
