I say we all pitch in and put up a Piggley Wiggley across the street from the Mosque. Give'em free bacon for a year.

From what I've been reading at least one group is talking about putting a Gay Bar across the street from it.

There needs to be clear consistent rules applied here, regardless of which minority is applying for a building permit. Threats of violence, or the swinging pendulum of public emotion or feeling, shouldn't come into it at this point.

Actually telling that mosque that it cannot be built there IS applying consistent rules. Maybe not in Australia, but it is entirely within the norm here for such a denial of permit for that reason.

Dave - are rights for all americans, or only those who are sensitive, moderate, and play well with others?

Right's are for all Americans but if Outreach and Understanding are what you seek. Why place it at that site? :noidea: In my summation it is to taunt and to enlarge the caliphate with a victory tribute Mosque.

I have right's too, but my rights end when I run into a crowded theatre and yell, "FIRE!"

There are also plenty of reasons why this thing shouldn't be built on that site. Permits for buildings are denied all of the time. The permit for the nearby Greek Orthodox Church is being denied because they want to enlarge the Church with another floor. This is exaclty what's going to happen with the old Burlington Coat Factory/Victory Mosque and War Memorial to the slaughter of innocents.

Dave, no one (that I know of) is denying that it is a crazy move and won't be at al effective as 'outreach and understanding'. My argument is and has been that denial of permit based on community sentiment is wrong. If you want to deny it for another legitimate reason, a reason which is applied consistently to all citizens regardless of which minority group they belong to, then great.

MG, if it worked that way, the minority groups in our societies would not get to build or do anything.

How can rights be inalienable if they are taken off you by 'popular consensus'? :noidea:

Standards, public indecency. A little common sense goes a long way. There are people who will bomb, maim, kill and do other things when they are pushed too far. Again, why fan the flames?

And again, if the community center is built, and people react in this way, they should be punished to the full extent of the law. Almost seems to me that we are more concerned with protecting the rights of people to potentially "bomb, maim and kill" more than the rights of people to build a mosque.

Yikes!

Are we allowed to threaten physical violence as a way of swaying government decisions? No way!

There needs to be clear consistent rules applied here, regardless of which minority is applying for a building permit. Threats of violence, or the swinging pendulum of public emotion or feeling, shouldn't come into it at this point.

Well I'm not for maiming or killing. But Americans are different people. What works in Australia, or Europe, or other places just won't work here. We are a country of laws but don't like to be told 'well, just deal with it'. It's just not who we are. These are foreign interests trying to build this mosque and it's OUR right to stop them. That's just how it is.

Two separate issues here, MG. You are free to protest as much as you like. You can try to stop them as much as you like. Go for it.

That stands alone from a potential violent reaction. I just don't see that as a valid excuse. People need to act inside the law, regardless of how they feel.

There are ways to protest without resorting to maiming and killing. Being 'different' people doesn't excuse using the prospect of a violent reaction a reason to deny this, in my opinion.

Yes, candice, people should follow the law. In any country. It's unchristian not to follow the law. But the fact remains....there are those who won't and will resort to any means if they feel threatened by islam or anything else they consider a foreign invasion. Facts are facts, regardless of what is right. I don't want to see anyone die over this nonsense. I want to see common sense prevail here.

It is entirely consistent with the way the us works with permits to deny the mosque. The reason of it being offensive to the community applies to every permit applied for. Many religious buildings or businesses are denied permits because their building doesnt fit in with the community in that location. Cities work with the one applying for a permit to get them to consider other locations that are more suitable. This mosque has refused to compromise like any other group has to. So for them to build is already not consistent with us practices and laws.

Radio talk show host doing it as a spoof to show how outrageous the mosque is. There are no real plans to put up a gay bar.

We need to be very careful. At the beginning of the Nazi atrocities against Jews things were very much like they are now against Muslims. Jewish places of worship were vandalized and destroyed. Jews were accused of wanting to take over Germany and impose their will.

The following story makes me sick.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/08/29/tennessee.mosque.site.fire/index.html?section=cnn_latest

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. If this keeps going the way it is, it won't be long before there will be people calling for internment camps for Muslims.

As a Christian site you would think Worthy would be a place to find voices of reason. I am so dissapointed there are so few.

That is not even a close comparison. The Jews in Nazi Germany were not killing people (they were being killed), they were not trying to build a synagogue on top of/or close proximity to, a shrine to the deaths of German solders by Jewish extremists. They were not giving the Germans the finger and calling them racists because the German's felt it would be an affront to their sensitivities. Yes, we are doomed if we fail to learn from history, but the history is that the Germans murdered millions of innocent people (including 3 million Jews) which is happening now under the banner of Islam.

Why don't they just put a Christian church and a Jewish synagogue next to the mosque in the building? Bet you that would solve the problem.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
