Grace to you,

Maybe it's just me.:noidea: I hate that saying now that I'm saved. I understand the sentiment and all but I don't need Luck because I have Grace.

When someone wishes me luck I always state, "Thanks, pray for me because I'm a child of God. I'm a blessed man and don't need luck."

Is that too forward? Why are people offended by that? It's like, "Hey! Break a leg!" I always softly speak the name of Jesus and wonder why someone would want to curse me.:o

Am I just being a crank?

peace,

Dave

"Luck" just speaks to me of lack of faith so I just turn it into " God's love " which is what it was originally

I also say this when someone wishes me 'good luck'; I tell them I don't need luck because I have God. Some don't like it but ..... oh well. Those who are saved through His grace rely on Him alone.

As for this question....

"Am I just being a crank?"

Yes. But at least you're on the right side.

Didnt solomn talk about chance in the bible. Isnt chance but mere luck. Granted all good things come from god. But some people are just in the right place at the right time.

In the book of Ecclesiates. He talks about it!

Find it for us. I don't believe Solomon spoke of chance in the sense of luck and if he did he meant it in the way that the world views Gods divine providence.

peace,

Dave

I'm the same way. I'm very hesitant to say "good luck" to anyone. I know I do say it out of habit though but it doesn't really have meaning to me.

In our English language, "Good luck" is the phrase we use for wishing someone well.

Hmm, OK, the word "wishing" has its own connotation problems.

See, my point is we don't have another phrase in our language for expressing our desire for someone to do well.

We could say, "Blessings," but even that has problems if you want to get technical because there is also a pagan association with it. And if you really want to get technical, the word "bless" has an unsavory etymology. (Look it up sometime!)

When someone wishes me good luck, I do not take offense, nor do I make a point about my opinion on "luck" - because I used to have an arrogant spiritual attitude about things in my past and made a big deal out of it . . . and in the process was very unloving.

And that's something we need to consider in this.

People, especially non-Christians, just want to be friendly, and then we throw their words back at them making them wish they hadn't said anything.

See what I mean?

It's like, "Hey! Break a leg!"

"Break a leg"

Meaning

Said to actors for good luck before they go on stage, especially on an opening nights.

Origin

Theatrical types are well-known for their belief in superstitions, or at least for their willingness to make a show of pretending to believe them. The term 'break a leg' appears to come from the belief that one ought not to utter the words 'good luck' to an actor. By wishing someone bad luck, it is supposed that the opposite will occur.

People today say this more out of tradition or for fun, not that they believe in the superstition.

I think we can get a bit over sensitive about some of these things (even cranky ;) ) generally when someone uses the expression good luck....they are merely saying that they wish you well in what you are about to do...it doesn't mean that their whole outlook is defined by luck, and would be unhelpful in many cases to take any sort of offence or take issue with it....but like you bro, I do not use the expression....I don't even use the expression 'G-d bless you' very often, because if can become glib and stale, and just another way of saying 'good luck' but with religious words.

It is somewhat different when someone like a Gypsy lady comes up to you and asks you to buy a piece of her heather for good luck...that is specifically geared to superstition, and should always be politely declined.

Things are recorded in the Bible as happening by chance, but that is something else.

Best regards. Botz

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
