You mentioned knee pain. I am not one to tout the "herbals" or "nutriceuticals" normally but good studies have shown that glucosamine sulfate (not the hydrochloride) 1500 mg per day (not the higher amounts the bottle may tell you to take) improves functionality and reduces pain by 20-40plus%.

Yeah, I know. My VA doctors told me about it. It's not just joint damage though, the military hospital let my leg swell up in a cast for a day and a half and I nearly lost my leg. The pressure did a lot of damage to the nerves in my leg and I get all kinds of weitd feelings and pain off and on.

They took out about half of my knee cap and that hurts where all the scar tissue grew where they reconnected all the stuff to it, and I fell on it twice at work over the years. It's kind of a mess.

LoL, they put stainless steel stitches in it and still after 40 years I will have one of those fester up and come out every few years.

But hey, I've still got a leg and it lets me walk on it most of the time even if it does hurt a lot; a lot of the guys in the military coming back from Viet Nam don't have a knee to hurt, I'm kind of happy I've got one to hurt.

I got very interested in this post because it shows a dramatic caution of hypnosis. In a way it’s ironic that this attitude is not seen in posts that can really use it, such as fostering an attitude towards God in approaching him in an intellectual way, a scientific surgical glove approach. Our entertainment industry is full of people who try their utmost to keep our attention when our conscious is not alert to the many scenes in films, TV as well as music that is peppered with a view point and subliminal messages - that are for the most part certainly not Christ like. In an interesting article I read how modern man is being desensitized to death, how many killings and violence do people view on TV per year, I think it’s over a 1000. The main concerns in the article are for children. Even medication for pain, depression and anxiety will change passage ways in your brain. They can cause great harm when mixed with alcohol or non-prescribed drugs. They can lead to dependence and abuse. Kramer in his book on Prozac, it can develop a flaw where you can start tolerating the intolerable.

I was contemplating hypnosis for anxiety. I went in but did not fit the profile. To aware of my surroundings.... However hypnosis does not produce lasting effects and is mostly used to stop smoking for 3 weeks of abstanance. However you may have to go back for a “re-fill.” Hypnosis can’t cure things like your personality traits, nor can it cure addiction. It has limitations.

Forms of hypnotism can be good when an Olympic downhill racer, for example, just sits in a chair and see’s a perfect run. Post Stress Traumatic Disorder uses a type of hypnosis by use of a pen that your eyes concentrate on and enable you go the worst parts of your life. It isn’t a 100% cure but there are good results. I went through a phase where I locked into positive thinking. One book by Maxwell Maltz entitled “Psycho-Cybernetics,” in which he talks about how he left plastic surgery since most people he saw had esteem and no self-worth, rather than anything really being wrong with them. It’s an interesting book which delves into our perceptions of ourselves and our subconscious (which is a recorder of everything and does not in itself have any sense of right or wrong). Without it you would have to measure out inch by inch the movement of your fork while eating etc. In your sleep your mind works on problems and thereby we say, “sleep on it.”

To finish the story I looked at a trial on hypnosis and acupuncture, conducted by leading scientist. Acupuncture won by a big margin. My final thoughts, is have a good intent and always lean on Christ whatever you do because any method can be approached with Christ as first in mind. Pray for answers, but the myth of you acting like a chicken as soon as you hear the operative word is nonsense, at the very least the effect has a short span and for the most part you will be able to resist it, when even in a trance, you can raise your hand indicating you feel something is wrong. Always use your conscience and good God given sense. Again, watch yourselves for anything under the sun can be perverted by evil.

I think that God gave the gift of healing to a number of people and we would be fools to allow fear to drive us away from seeking their help for the pain we have in life. If the screen name of OldShep does not give you a clue, I'm Old, I have many manmade cracks in my body and with the passage of time the pain grows. Hypnosis, will not make a person do something that he would not do in real life. The people that do this aren't really putting you under, you, yourself are allowing your own body to react to the claming words of the person around you.

Jesus, healed hundreds of people and He gave that power to others, plus when you are healed give credit to God, for He is the one that is really doing the healing. The Doctors do a bunch of work but God brings you through. I know, I've stood on the doorstep of this life and the next twice. I had a massive, rupture of my Aorta, just so happens I was in Boston, I just about bleed out, I did flat line. They replace 17 1/2" of my Aorta, 3 years ago.

Mat 4:24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them.

Mat_9:12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

Act 28:8 His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him.

I think, that allowing yourself to suffer with great amounts of pain because of "Fear" is not from the Lord. I believe that the Bible tells us to Fear not. Plus the Holy Spirit inside of you is not about to be controlled by an outside force.

1Co 12:8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,

1Co 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,

1Co 12:10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

1Co 12:11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

Rom_8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."

IMHO.

Has anyone here ever been hypnotized?

Before I was saved, I was. Twice. Part of some seminar on hypnotism and a topic that definitely isnt of God so I wont get into it. It was an interesting experience, but even then I knew that even though supposedly they cant make me do something I didnt want to do, they could implant fake memories in me. I know, because it happened. After that time I have not wanted to be hypnotized again. As a Christian there is a definite refusal in me to being hypnotized. Like a door slamming shut.

As someone in the medical field, would I endorse this? I do not know if I would allow it to be done to me. Chances are I would have the same inner door slamming shut as I mentioned above. I dont think I could recommend it to others. However I have tried self hypnotism in the past to control pain. I have not tried that for a long time either. I do not know if I would be able to do so any more.

Yep we are, in most advertising for instance.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
