Nubula:

I to have been to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania twice visiting! So many quaint towns there, a shopppers paradise

I have driven up and down many of the roads in those towns, just looking at the different homes and neighborhoods. It is really the simple life, the family life.

Papasangel, you know I will get down there one of these day to visit ya'll, and cut into a slice of that wonderful HOMEMADE bread slattered with butter, but best of all, the Shoofly Pie!!!!

Fresh honey, too?

I thought it was strange that Amish people believe that electricity is evil. I really dont understand that concept of thinking. I can see TV or Radio but not Electricity. LOL

How can electricity be an evil? I guess no Amish here to answer?

God bless,

Quite seriously the way this world is I think they have it completely right and if it weren't for the fact I have parents who are unwell who I need to be close to I would our family out woop woop and live the most simplistic life possible.

A non christian friend said to me the other day have you noticed how all our evening veiwing is murders at the moment, we have all the Law & Orders plus all the CSIs, Real Life murder solving, Lost Without a Trace, Cold Case............ etc. That is through the week every night on unpaid TV.......... not much time for anything else. On Pay TV can anyone point out a show that doesn't include sex, homosexuality, murder, abuse or some form of off adult content besides DIY shows. And really when you think about it the shows about the murders these days are really DIY murder shows for those that have a tendancy. I mean show the wrong person HOW TO and they WILL. Electricity in itself isn't evil but there is a lot of evil coming from it.

I get bombarded day after day with telemarketers and now if they can't get me on fixed line they try the mobile, sms and email.

Cars well I really don't need to say much about road rage and the fact that when we get home from where ever, we are steamed by the lack of care by other drivers and angry with ourselves for behaving in a similar matter due to getting so fed up.

We drive our kids here there and everywhere so they can fit in and play all the sport then have lil or no time for family and even when the sport is scaled down other things creep in.

Kids are confined as far as space goes to run because we have small back yard and you can't allow your kids even to go down the local park cause you just don't know who is lurking.

Oh for a more simplistic loving life where we know our neighbours and I don't mean just the ones next door if you get that opportunity but I mean our community of neighbours.

And amoungst all this where is our quantity of time with God.

Yup I think they have it right.

The Amish and Mennonites are two different animals. The chief has described the Mennonite better than I could. The Amish are not really christian at all. They are a "religious society." There are groups of christians in PA & NY that were Amish and have been born again but kept a good part of the lifestyle. The main part they do away with is the technology restrictions. And to most American christians they seem legalistic because they follow rules that many find restrictive in the modern world.

Hi Chief,

That post was a very good post, enlightening, good explainations, and I really appreciate your post.

I know that this will show my ignorance, but what does this mean?

stoked her larder

Another Traveller, you took every single word right out of my mouth!

Since, EVERYONE HAS to obey their laws on how to dress, eat, how they live, etc.

The thing is - I don't think it is like that. That sounds oppressive. It's not like they have to enforce these things. They want to do them, gladly. At least, that's the attitude I see.

Living here in Wisconsin we have areas with high concentrations of Amish. They make beautiful furniture and crafts, and are hard workers.

HOWEVER, I have discovered something about them that seriously makes me wonder how they can claim to want to follow Christ at all. Now I'm NOT saying this applies to everyone who is Amish, I don't want to offend anyone. But I wouldn't have believed this had I not seen it with my own eyes.

The Amish around here apparently have a problem with in-breeding. They ran an ad in one of the small town newspapers, looking for young men to come and have sex with their wives to help alleviate the problem and get some different DNA into the gene pool. They were willing to pay $500 cash to the men who did this.

A friend of mine I worked with told me about this, and I said no way, I absolutely do not believe it. Well, he brought in the paper with the ad in it. I read it myself, and I was floored to say the least.

My freind had a buddy who apparently needed the money and answered the ad. I won't detail everything, but it was conducted totally like a breeding operation you would see on a farm. Woman was covered with a sheet, her husband and other men stayed in the room, no personal contact, just business.

Like I said, I wouldn't have believed this for a minute if I hadn't seen the ad myself. Then some other people said they had seen it before, and it was fairly common for them to do this every so often.

The other thing that just recently happened is there were two brothers (amish) that were arrested for sexually assaulting a small girl. The amish elders were upset that the men were arrested, as they said they handle this type of thing among themselves. Which makes me wonder, as more came out about it, how often this type of thing occurs with-in their community.

Like I said, this obviously does NOT apply to all amish, and I don't want to offend anyone here. But the fact that these things are occurring and coming to light, makes me wonder about what else they let happen, seeing as they live in such seclusion.

Do we have a prize for this man? You have actually done the impossible - you have made me speechless. :x: :x: :x: :x: :x: :x:

Laura!! Berlin is where I was talking about - that I go to every once in awhile! I love Berlin! :)

That is one thing that makes the Amish different from others, and pretty much solely travel with horse and buddy (although at least here in NE Ohio where I live, and there is Amish nearby), they will travel to work and/or stores in vans that are driven by non-Amish.

That is one thing that has always bothered me- if modern things like cars are considered sinful - then why will they compromise when they need one? What is the difference between riding in that sinful car, and driving it yourself??

I've wondered the same thing. Seems kind of hypocritical to me.

I believe that the simple lifeestyle of the Amish is admirable.

But I think it's wrong to hold it up as a test of religious orthodoxy. :)

We probably will not see any Amish here on the boards or chat room, and MOST do not have electricity.  That is one thing that makes the Amish different from others, and pretty much solely travel with horse and buddy (although at least here in NE Ohio where I live, and there is Amish nearby), they will travel to work and/or stores in vans that are driven by non-Amish.

Oh well good grief!!!

DUH!!! I'm such a goof sometimes! ;):)

That's just funny.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
