Citing Mounting Opposition Among States, Astronomical Costs & Privacy Concerns, Rutherford Institute Warns Against Implementation of Real ID

March 29, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. —The Rutherford Institute has joined with a national coalition of organizations to vigorously oppose any effort by the federal government to force states to comply with the Real ID Act of 2005. The Real ID Act would essentially establish a national ID by requiring states to comply with costly and restrictive federal licensing standards aimed at creating a national database of drivers’ licenses. Alternately derided as a national ID card, a violation of the Tenth Amendment, an unfunded mandate, and a threat to civil liberties, the Real ID program has largely stalled, primarily due to mounting opposition from the states, many of which have adopted laws or resolutions opposing it. In its letter to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, the coalition—comprised of The Rutherford Institute, the ACLU, the Constitutional Alliance, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and the Liberty Coalition, among others—warned against Congress or the Department of Homeland Security attempting to revive the Real ID program, insisting that doing so would not only be costly to the states, but would also jeopardize civil liberties by facilitating the government’s ability to track Americans—a clear violation of the Fourth Amendment.

I have a drivers licenxe that identifies who I am. I fail to see the problem with an ID that says I'm a Citizen of the United States and identifies me as me.... It will be no different than my drivers license...

I am not American, but I was thinking the same thing? I have had an ID book since I was 16. The men in black have not visited me once!

I was thinking along the same line, we already have ID cards, it seems social security cards are the big one. (even though they weren't originally meant to be)

Well, I don't think it will if they make it as hard to get as an Oklahoma Drivers License. I had to prove I was a citizen to get a license. That and passing laws to punish people who hire illegals caused very large numbers of them to leave the state.

Indiana has a law just like this and I have nor hear of any complaints about it. Except, of course, from the Democrats: "it's too difficult and costly for minorities" and it makes it difficult for illegals to vote.

I don't know how it works with you, but here, if I intend to vote I take my ID to a pre voting station and am entered on the voters roll a few weeks before the vote (municipal or national vote). On the date of the vote I present my ID and am issued a form with the candidates on. I make my X in private and drop it in a box. Although the gov knows I have voted, they don't know who for. The forms cannot be traced back to individual voters.

If I arrive on voting day and am not registered on the voters roll I can't vote.

It is a bit cumbersome, but it works.... It also stops multiple voting, and being Africa a small dot of ink is dropped on one's thumbnail. You cannot get the stuff off for at least a week...

Hey, this is Africa, and we make a plan! Electronic voting just can't work, because the rural areas don't have electricity, let alone internet!

Here, in Texas, we register each year by mail or in person. I think that opens the door to ineligible voters and I don't mean so much illegal (most Hispanics working here have green cards) but not eligible because they aren't citizens. I've had some of them tell me flat out that they vote and have been doing so for years. While I understand that they pay taxes here and want to vote....they need to do it legally by becoming citizens. As for multiple voting....I'm not sure what prevents that here, if anything. I'm all for voter I.D. in the U.S.

One question for all of you who think this is a good idea: What happened when David numbered the people of Israel?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
