Mine is an Ipod.... I listen to the NASB and the KJV, and one copy of the NASB has music and different voices and is a real production.

For a study Bible I use BibleSoft's bible program with five or six different translations and lexicons and maps and pictures and linear Greek and Hebrew word for word translations with Strong's and Vines word definitions linked to each of the Greek and Hebrew words. It also has the Textus Recptus and Nestle manuscripts for that.

Unfortunately it's not comfortable when you go to sleep with it on your tummy.

I like good ol' King Jimmie, and love the sound of the early modern English, but I also like NKJV for the kids' sakes.

And E-sword is great, because you can download so very many translations!

My wife reads the CJB. She's Messianic. I use the NKJV for personal reading/study. But the KJV is what we use in church.

I personally like NKJV too for personal study. :hurrah: It is also the version our pastor preaches from, for small groups, and we use in Sunday Schools. But for younger people (or newer Christians) NLT or NIV is kind of nice. I like ESV and NASB too. I listen to ESV on my iPhone. I've actually read The Message as well and as someone pointed out it's great fun.

Some people are very strict about the KJV only. :soapbox: Go figure. :hmmm:

You actually mean 'Elizabethan English.' Shakespeare quoted from the Geneva Bible, which until the early to mid 1700's was more popular than the KJV, having preceded KJV by some 50 years or so.

my favorite to read when i'm doing my 90 days is always the NLT. when i was blogging through this summer, i would read (and blog) in NLT, but on the passage i would blog about, i would always compare it to the NKJV for accuracy. the NKJV is my favorite "study" bible.

i'm about to read through in a version that i'm not so familiar with... the HSCB (HCSB?). i read the intro about the translation and the process that they went through, so it should be very interesting for me to compare it. but just for fun, i read through a couple of chapters of revelation in that version on my last day of the 90 day thing, and i quickly gave up and went back to the NLT. i should have started in genesis where i'm more familiar, so i wouldn't jump back and forth.

Some people are very strict about the KJV only. :soapbox: Go figure. :hmmm:

I have to be understanding of all people, but this offends me, my friend, I am "that kind" of person that needs to be "figured out". Christ is not divided, as a member of the Body of Christ that needs to be relegated to a classification of HIS BODY that is separate and different from other member of Christ. Correct me somebody if I am wrong here, but I feel slandered, though I may be overly sensitive at the moment, I acknowledge that I am a bit down and not at my best right now. I forgive you, my profile friend and real friend. Hope we can be closer through this.

Not much to figure out really, but personal convictions are fine up to a point. Where I start getting upset is when anyone (and I am not pointing fingers at anyone in particular) starts saying I'm not a real Christian, questions my salvation, or walk with Christ because I don't believe the same way they do. It could be KJV only, or any number of other things that are not clear salvation issues.

KJV was the first version of the Bible I was given after I got saved and I didn't have issues reading it, probably because I was in Germany at the time and spent most of my time using that language. I learned in the process that its best to read scripture in your native language! On the other hand, I could not read an NIV and get anything out of it at all. I didn't understand at the time, but apparently the Lord was leading me away from that version for some reason. I don't know why. To this day I still cannot get anything out of reading an NIV.

Hey Monarchy I wasn't trying to offend brother. Thank you for forgiving me in advance but I do apologize. I was merely pointing out that some Christians believe that the KJV is the best and only translation one should read in English. Acutally walla299 expressed very well what I was trying to convey...

Especially when there is no clear direction in the Bible concerning what they are saying... Understand Monarchy?

I am very well familiar with old defense against the "KJV-onlyism" bunch, the tagging, the condemnation, the misrepresenting, et al.., but Iron sharpeneth Iron and I have faith in that we will grow into a richer relationship.

I am not interested in Walla's "explanation", it's the same old prejudice, falsely accusing me, it just more hacking up the Body of Christ - Christ is not divided.

I think Walla was speaking general terms as he said. But I think I can relate to your perpective as well. Okay no worries. I agree we are to sharpen one another and grow deeper in our relationship with Christ. We are one in Christ! :mgcheerful:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
