My understanding of tongues is a), how we are to pray privately in spirit; b) when in public, there must be someone to interpret and edify; c) and the ability to speak to crowds in their own language. I believe this still happens but have to question a roomful of people talking in tongues without edification; it does not seem to fit scripture.

I agree and in so doing I believe then this applies-

Ro 14:4

4 Who are you to judge another's servant? To his own master he stands or falls.

Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.

NKJV

as you can see by this I am not distressed about tongues~ for either way I have

my Lord's Promise of keeping His.... Love, Steven

This has been thrashed about in another thread...you might find it interesting...this thread is about whether or not the gifts have ceased, not

how they function...

That thread, link, has lots of info and plenty of thrashing and bashing to suit anyone ;)

This thread was supposed to be about whether or not the gifts have ceased...NOT whether or not we should be speaking, praying

en masse or in private or yelling from the rooftop.

How about healing or teaching? Have those gifts stopped? Do we still allow teaching?

How do you interpret this passage in view of the last of days we are in?

1 Co 13:8

8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

NKJV Love, Steven

When Jesus returns those things will cease. In the meantime those gifts are available to Believers as God choses.

Please support this with Scripture! Love, Steven

1 Cor. 12: 1-11.

I'm sorry I could not find in that passage when Jesus returns is when tongues cease. Love, Steven

You will find any suggestion of the ceasing of the gifts in 1 Corinthians 13:8-9

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part.
But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

That which is perfect has not yet come.

So 2Tim 3:16-17 does not apply to perfection coming? An if so then how does it say what it says in verse 17? Then

backed by many Scriptures about the perfect law of Liberty found in the New Testament/Covenant? Ja 1:25-27 As the fruit it

delivers Rom 8 a perfection that cannot be denied so witnessed by The Scriptures.... Love, Steven

Hi Steven,

I would be interested to see you show the scripture and explain how it would cause what I say to be incorrect. From what I see, the scripture you provide has nothing to do what "that which is perfect" as spoken in 1 Corinthians 13:8-9.

Steven, your reasoning that the New Testament scriptures are defining the completed cannon that they are part of as that which is perfect having come. James spoke of the perfect law of liberty and was not including the New Testament. By that logic the perfect had come long before as the OT cannon was established before Christ's first advent. Think about it. Pray over it. Meditate some more. May God give the increase. With love,

Gary

sevenseas, what is up with you? Who's doing all this bashing you are talking about? No one that I can see. The way you answered the blogger did come close, and you apologized for misspeaking. You have made in quite clear you believe in the speaking of tongues, I stated I did as well. To question whether the practice as related in the Gospels is still going relates to how it is being practiced today. Is 'a roomful of people speaking in tongues' the practice of tongues directly suits the topic as presented. It is not bashing of any kind. Again, I ask you to stop making presumptions about my motives and character. Directing me to a link to glut my need to bash? That is not right.

Again, we already have a thread on tongues. My post was simply about that. No need for a volcanic eruption. ;)

I have mentionned the same thing on this thread previously, so I'm sorry, but I am not giving you special attention

Steven, your reasoning that the New Testament scriptures are defining the completed cannon that they are part of as that which is perfect having come. A partial perfection is still perfection! James spoke of the perfect law of liberty and was not including the New Testament.Oh you don't even want to go there with me! 2Tim 3:16-17 How clear does God need to be? Only that which 'IS' perfect can make perfect Jn 1:1-18...

Taking the Third Member of The God Head with the Holy Scriptures and your willing to come into Jesus' presence

saying the perfect is not here? It's your accounting! I for one will not think as you guys do here! Love, Steven

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
