Matthew 5

14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under the grain-measure, but on a lampstand. And it gives light to all who are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.

In what ways do we, should we, can we, let our light shine?

One big way is by being honest. I surprise people with my honesty quite often, and they remark about it. That's how I know I'm going above and beyond what the average person is doing.

Sex as we get older becomes less of an urgency that it is when we're younger. But I told some people recently I don't intend to have sex again unless I'm married to the woman. I think the women I told this to either thought I was lying, or it was a new come on trick. The men I told it to looked at me like I lost my mind. Whatever the effect was, it certainly made me stand out.

Are these the kind of things you're talking about?

I agree with the above comments and as far as abstinence goes yes... We are supposed to be abstinent until marriage anyway, other wise is a sin...! For me it is all about letting the fruits of the Holy Spirit come forth through me through the power of God working in me. In this way we shine a light upon the world where ever we go naturally. Besides that and trying to help others with their burdens when I can and evangelizing to who ever will listen, I've been getting more involved with charity lately, as:

Acts 20:35

In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.' (how true!)

For me it has been with http://www.compassion.com/ it is certainly more rewarding than a lot of other things I have ever done... ^_^

Isaiah 1:17

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause.

Isaiah 58:10

If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.

Matthew 25:40

And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

God bless.

If you live your life as Jesus taught us to do (Loving God with alll our hearts and loving our neighbor as ourselves)..... being honest with people and helping those who can't help themselves, you will stand out like a sore thumb in this world today..... some will respond to that and some will just call you nuts....... but the light will shine...

People who are described in Matthew 5:3-11 would be considered salt and light to the world I think.

Mat 5:3-11 KJV Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (4) Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (5) Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. (6) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (7) Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (8) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (9) Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (10) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (11) Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

@ Ayin Jade,

Interesting Question....

I think that the very first thing that we should do is be "REAL"

Let our light's shine thru the imperfections in all of our lives, for this creates an atmosphere for other's to feel comfortable, as we all are works in progress, they will see what we have in CHRIST JESUS and want what we have

Those that OUR LORD has put in our lives will soon begin to see that OUR LORD isn't sitting in heaven with a big ole score board say" Well she's already sinned 42 times this week and it's only Wednesday, I guess she's gonna have to hit by a bus"..LOL

BUt instead will see the true LOVE OF GOD.

Matthew 25:31-46...taken with..."He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8

Thank you for your question this morning.

God bless you,

Randal

I thought perhaps I should be a bit more specific concerning the Scripture in Matthew 25...in answer to your question...

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." - Matthew 25:35 & 36

Yes,I agree.I can not believe this world.Everyone is living together now.If you say that you do not believe in living together before marriage people look at you like you are crazy.People are having children without being married. It is so very common and so very sad.

Great post, and great questions. I particularly liked how you talked about letting the power of God work through you. If we are representing Christ in everything that we do, then our entire lives are worship, every day. Romans 12:1 says I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. This is one way that we are a light of the world. We should never stop representing Christ/worshiping because of the people we are around. As we give up our fleshly control and let the Spirit move in us, the fruits produced will naturally cause the light to shine, much brighter than if we try to shine it ourselves.

Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. If we keep this in mind constantly, our light will not be contained.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
