Not a book burning Beau, but a refusal to take in the ways of the world. When we read fairy tales to small children and then read the bible they cannot distinguish the difference between fiction and fact.

FACT: Jesus performed miracles, died a cruel death, and rose again from the dead. We can tell this to a child and they will accept it for what it is and believe it.

FICTION: Peter Pan flies through the air, helps Wendy etal to do same by aid of fairy dust. Small child believes same and accepts as true.

When child grows up and finds that fairies are fiction doubts arise about truth of Jesus Christ. After all the supernatural is only fiction.

Some scriptures.

Larry,

I love you and respect you in the Lord, and I receive you as my brother in Christ.  But your answer here is absolutely incorrect.  There have been countless scientific studies that have proven that children understand the difference between fact and fiction even from the earliest period of adolescence.  And if the studies aren't enough proof, just being a parent should give you a clue.  I read Peter Pan to my children from when they were just toddlers.  They know that Tinkerbell doesn't exist in the real world; just like they know that Bugs Bunny doesn't exist, and that you can't bash a person over the head with a huge hammer and see little birdies flitting over their heads in a circle.

You are ignoring so many facts about both childhood development and literature it's not even funny.  Children know how to distinguish between fantasy and reality practically from birth. It's only when we, as parents, intentionally blur the lines between fantasy and reality that problems come in.  Case-in-point:  Telling our kids that at a certain time of the year an enormous rabbit scampers around our yards leaving behind decorated hard-boiled eggs,  Telling them that a fat guy drops down our chimney once a year and leaves toys underneath a tree and in stockings for good little boys and girls.  It's one thing to read a completely fictional story to our children, it's another to promote that story as reality.

I have told the truth to my kids right from the beginning:  There is no "Easter Bunny," there is no "Santa Claus,"  and there is no such thing as a little fairy that comes around with pocket change paying kids for their lost teeth.  But read Peter Pan to my kids before bed?  You better believe it!  Because these stories are good literature, and they help educate and form young minds.  And they encourage fantasy, which is healthy in young children.  Study after study prove that reading to children promotes brain development in so many different areas.  They also show that variety is the key.  Reading also develops a passion for reading in children.  And that, in itself, is beneficial in so many different areas.  Kids that read get good grades, and they are grow up to be the best achievers in our society.

Besides, did you know that most of the classic children's authors were brothers and sisters in Christ?  Did you know that Grimm's and Anderson's fairy tales were folklore handed down mainly from Christian communities?  These stories were told to children with the purpose to educate and encourage healthy moral behavior.  They were used in conjunction with Biblical teaching - and most, if not all of them, used the same moral principals found in the Bible.  They gave children something to relate to.

Peter Pan is not a story about a rebellious youth who once flew away to a magical world so that he could avoid growing up (And thus, avoid responsibility).  It was about a girl who was coming of age, and had to face the fact of leaving behind her childhood, and learn to grow up to become an adult.  Peter Pan came to "rescue her" from the responsibilities of becoming an adult.  But in time she came to realize that she had to grow up.  She made the right choice to leave her childhood behind.  In the process of her realization she became more appreciative of her parent's role in her life, and she also became a great help to the other "lost boys" in that she was able to provide them with steady role models (Wendy's parents adopted the lost boys).  Peter Pan is a wonderful story!

There are so many great moral principals you can pull from these stories.  So what's wrong with them?  Just because there's a fairy in them we should condemn them and call them tools of Satan?  That's just ridiculous, in my opinion.  Seriously, how far are you willing to go to promote this kind of legalism, brother?  Are you willing to burn every book that you believe promotes Satanism?  I'm afraid with this kind of mindset there won't be enough books in the world.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

All I have to say is Wow!!!! I think G-man has pretty much summed this up for me.. in Total agreement Brother.

God Bless,

Dave

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
