"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensom." -1 John 5:3

Why does it feel like his commands are burdensom at times? Is that us making them burdensom, the world or satan? And how can we make them not burdensom?

well remember what commandments he is refering to

Love God with all your heart

and

Love your neighbor as yourself

these are the new commandments that Jesus gave us and John recorded in his gospel

those are not too onerous, and when we fall. We get up.

Don't get defeated by your failures, profit from them

Yes JF, Sometimes we feel His commandments are burdensome, whenever we go in a way, mostly the way is not the perfect will of God on us. At that times, I suffered a lot such that I could not hear the voice of the Lord to get solution for my burdens. In such situations, God does not speak to us, but speaks towards the problem to cast out that one from our lives ... and when we eagerly search for His presence with praying & meditating ... God does the same as I told above and helps us to realize the thing, that we are not going on His ways ...

Then it may be easy for us to set right our ways ... Seek the Lord with thirst ... that's the only solution not to feel His commandments as burdensome ... Amen !

Remember we are in a constant battle with the desires of the flesh.  That is where we have a hard time, wanting to fulfill the desires of the flesh when we know we should not.

Romans 8:5

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:17

For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

I would conclude they are only burdensome for someone who still wants what the world offers, I look back when I was young and indeed they were burdensome for someone who was not done experiencing with all the sin's of the world

once arriving at the other side wisdom has shown me the world offers nothing but a facade of happiness and the only true happiness is found abiding in the love of Christ

but if you are like me only finding this truth on your own is when it will ring clear, thats one of the sad realities of life is we think somehow for each of us it will be different

1John 5:3

Hi JFsurvivor,  if you have already experienced pain and heartache and have cried out to the Lord for help and have felt His presence,

then know that God can do the same with every concern you have. Cultivating patience is part of growing in understanding.

Waiting on the Lord and do not give up on His love for you. He knows of your struggles

and is waiting for you to come to Him always with every concern you have.

Give over your concerns to the Lord and He will guide your path.

Let go and let Him take control of the situation.

If the situation that you are in does not line up with the Word of God, it probably is not the right path you to stay in.

as it will only hurt you more in the long run.

When the commandments seem burdensome, it could be because we still want to hold onto things we know are wrong but that we feel hard-pressed to give up.

Bring these burdens to the Lord, ask Him to help you be free from those temptations.

Many of our struggles could have been avoided had we listened and been obedient to Gods will over our own.

God knows whats best for us, more than we know .

Turning our will and our lives to the care of God is giving Him a chance to work His commandments in our hearts and lives

and navigate us to making decisions that align with His will for us.

Seek the Lords always in everything, and He shall direct you path.    : )

Just wanted to add some verses.

Romans 8:5For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

That set of verses ends with the statement that 'you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells in you.'  It also says if the Spirit of Christ does not dwell in you, that you do not belong to Him. I read this to say, we are not in the flesh, if we are believers.

What do you all think?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
