Wingnut, we do eat and drink in heaven.  We will have access to the tree of life.  Jesus said he would drink of the fruit of the vine in the kingdom.  It would seem like we wouldn't need to sleep, but who knows?  Will we indeed no longer need rest?  I don't think scripture actually says.  Even before he got to a place where he would know death, Adam knew sleep.  I think that is just an assumption we make, so I am not going to say one way or the other.  Who is to say we couldn't use our own dwelling place in heaven?  Why do we assume we suddenly wouldn't have any private moments for all eternity?  I think there is a lot of speculation in your post, but I know for a fact people will eat and drink, even with a spiritual body.

Hello Butero,

I didn't say we wouldn't eat in heaven, I said we wouldn't eat as we do now.  I don't disagree that some of these things are speculative, but are we given any reason to believe that angels need sleep or rest?  According to scripture, when we receive our glorified bodies we will be like them in that regard, and I am unaware of them sleeping.  That doesn't mean they don't rest of course, but if our rest is in Him, wouldn't that be the same for them?  I think the main point is found in what Paul wrote in II Corinthians, our eternal home is the glorified body.

Everything about heaven that the Bible reveals to us shows the saints around the throne praising God.   Heaven is not going to be the way we imagine it because we have no point of reference for what it is going to be like.   Our finite minds picture heaven as a place  that relates to our experience in this life.  Heaven will be beyond that.

The thoughts about heaven and mansions in this thread are swinging from left to right, from real to surreal, from measurable to immeasurable, from physical to etherical.

The fact is that the Bible provides many dimensions with actual measurements, and a lot of detail about heaven, does not suggest any ignorance or gullibility about our new home at all, but rather provides the frame work for our desires and imaginations, and thoughtful applications of what God has given us on earth  - as a faint reminder and reflection of a Creator who loves harmony and beauty.

For too long people have been satisfied with a scant knowledge of what the Bible actually says about heaven.

The reason details are provided in the Bible is to guard us against spiritualism which seeks to devalue and obliterate the realities of heaven, and especially its vital connection to earth, provided by the ministry of the angels and so forth.

Some would argue that the dimensions are just symbolic, then where do we stop with symbolism?

The same could be said about our heavenly abode, is it just a symbol of our bodies?

Did you know that there are actual measurements of heaven to indicate - how far the tree of life is from the throne of God, and even the depth of the water every 500 meters from the throne? That's another topic though.

So let's not be afraid of making heaven too materialistic, because the Bible does not endorse etherical whims.

"Eye has not seen..."

BUT "God has revealed them unto us by His Spirit..." 1 Corinthians 2:9, 10 >

The Bible says it will be a mansion, and the word mansion is in the definition, so I am 100 percent sure it will be a mansion.  That being said, nobody knows what that mansion will be?  We don't know the size.  We don't know the appearance.  Only God and those who are dwelling in their already know.  I don't claim to know for sure.

Will there be cities in heaven? Based on what I have read in scripture, New Jerusalem is there now, but will come down to earth.  There will be cities on earth besides New Jerusalem.  Heaven is indeed God's abode, but the saints that have died are there now.  To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

The saints that have died are in PARADISE (a different place than Heaven) as is the thief on th cross.

Yes,we are picturing heaven with our human minds.

I would like to say I'm surprised this conversation has gone on this long but I'm really not because I know we have trouble letting go of our fairy tales.  As I told you in my previous post if you want to know where we will spend Eternity read the last part of Rev. 20 and the first part of 21.  That makes it clear that our eternal home is NOT Heaven.

"Technically" our eternal home is in the New Jerusalem, which eventually comes down from Heaven. The New Jerusalem is presently in Heaven. So for all practical purposes the two are in such close proximity that we need not split hairs. Not sure what you mean by "fairy tales", but whether we say "Heaven" or "heavenly city" I believe we are all referring to the same place.  What we are NOT referring to is niggardly "rooms" in such a spacious city (which would volumetrically equal all the inhabited regions of the earth, since it is a cubic city).

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
