There used to be extreme teaching about this. A wife was under the protection of God when in submission to her own husband and the husband had to be under the pastors authority who was under God's. However, Scripture teaches that the wife and husband are under Christ as part of the Church in 1 Cor. 11:3, Ephesians 4 and 1 Peter 3 and no one is protected from trials or attack. So this was error. They were called coverings. They also taught that they had to obey the pastors and this was used to abuse people. But they will give account for our souls according to Heb 13:7. They should lead by example as well. We all should be humble and submit to each other in all godliness, but not to use this to cause someone to sin or to put unnecessary burdens on them.

I wear a head covering, based on the verse in which a woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered dishonors her head. So some do cover still.

     Like Ezra,I too am wondering what coverings you are asking about........can you be more specific?As he suggested,perhaps a verse of Scripture would help us to understand what you are referring to.......

You are to be commended, since the number of Christian women who wear a head covering during worship are relatively few.  The teaching on head coverings is really the teaching on Headship, which few Christians understand, and few pastors and teachers understand or teach.  And even fewer are the ones who believe that the angels observe this things.

The scriptures say that a woman's long hair acts as her covering, but some also feel the need to wear something in addition to having long hair.  It is a sign they are under their husband's authority.  When a man has short hair, it is a sign he is under God's authority.
