from TheBlaze:

"'Who will rid me of this meddlesome priest?' (King Henry II)

"At least the disagreement between King Henry II and The Archbishop of Canterbury was over matters having to do with the church. Pope Francis is so busy righting the wrongs with capitalism, foreign policy and the environment that he hasn’t found the time to comment on matters of faith.

"Jesus unleashed Christianity on the world when He charged Peter with the authority to build His church. It didn’t include any reference to a government program. It was as simple as leading others to Him. 'No one approaches the Father but through me.'

"Apostles, such as Paul, took that message as far as their travels and writings could reach. As the message spread the flock increased ...

"The quickest way to lose one’s following is to dilute the spiritual message with temporal distractions. Many leaders of large denominations have felt compelled to become relevant by speaking out on current political issues. Their flock has declined in number in direct correspondence to their increased political relevance...."

This is what happens when we put men in the seat of Jesus Christ

The inerrancy of the word of Christ should the focus of the church and not Social Justice

But the flaws inherent on any group of men that thinks it is at the tiller of ship of Christianity would tend to be grave and have been grave.

With John Paul II we were blessed with a man who put God first.  Francis is putting feelings first

all well intended...but as another quote says" The road to hell is paved with good intentions"

actually also, "well intended" helps no one when opposed to GOD'S WORD (like the rcc is and always has been). many many thousands, probably millions, of souls have been marketed and trampled and deceived ongoing, continually, for almost 2000 years by the alternative to Christ one world power seeking business ('church'). the documentation/ proof is exhaustive ever since the first century all the way through to the present. NEVER-THE-LESS, TRUST ONLY SCRIPTURE. and that is enough, yahweh willing, to distinguish the truth from the lie.

My 3 year prayerful search deep into the history of the Church,  and christian faith, reading and investigating original source material, revealed just the opposite.

The RCC has a history of being a murderous cult.  Despite some Catholics who have done humanitarian services, the RCC has a long history of persecuting and murdering Jews and anyone else who wasn't Catholic.  Even some of the Popes murdered their way into the Papacy (so much for apostolic succession).

The New Testament books had not been written yet.  The Old Testament and what are now known as the apocryphal books, the 7 books Luther took out of the Bible, were in use by the first Christians in the Greek Septuagint version of the scriptures, which was the predominately one used throughout the Jewish and Christian world at the time of Christ and the Apostles.    This may sound a bit startling, but Greek was thelingua franca of the day and most Jews spoke and read Greek.  This had been true for a couple hundred years before Christ, which is why the Jewish leaders had the Hebrew scriptures translated into the Greek.

The heavy use of the Septuagint is evident in the New Testament writings where the Old Testament is quoted.  The vast majority of time, the Septuagint is quoted over the Hebrew version, which is why the quotes don't exactly line up with the Old Testament predominately in use today by us, being English translations of the Hebrew texts. In addition, there are several references from Books used as scripture by the ancient Jews of Jesus' time that did not make it into the Christian canon of scripture, such as the Book of Enoch.

One loses a lot of understanding of and about the Bible without taking in the history of the Septuagint version.

Also of interest is the concept of a closed canon of scripture.   I, as many of you probably, was taught the scriptures were closed at the time of Christ.  As I studied history, I found that this was certainly not the case.  The Hebrew canon did not become closed until after the Apostles were gone, around the end of the 1st century, into the 2nd century.  That means the Jews, as well as the Christians after them, up through the time of Christ and the Apostles, continued to add books to their scripture, and these books were written in Greek since that was the common language used by Jews.  These became known as the Deuterocanonicals.

It was because of the Greek Septuagint, which included these Deuterocanonicals , that two situations arose which gave rise to what these Jewish leaders perceived as  major threats to the continued existence of the Jewish people.

These threats were:

1) the zealots' use of Maccabees to justify their attacks against Rome,  and the severity of Rome's response, such as the sacking of Jerusalem and the Destruction of the Temple, including the rising of the Abomination of Desolation Christ warned would occur within the generation he spoke those words to,  in 70 AD.  They believed that Rome would utterly destroy and wipe out the Jewish people under its control because of the zealots.

and

2) the very effective use of the Septuagint Greek scriptures to make converts from Judaism to Christianity, in particular using the prophecy in Isaiah

"Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son"

In the Septuagint, this prophecy of the  virgin birth uses a very unambiguous word for "virgin"   -  it literally means one who has never known a man.   Christians were able to show how Christ perfectly fulfilled this prophecy of the miraculous birth, and thus gain many converts to Christianity.    This threatened the existence of the Jewish faith and people in their eyes.   In contrast the Hebrew version of this verse uses a more ambiguous word, which can simply mean a young maiden and not necessarily a virgin.

To combat these two threats, they dealt with the common element in both, the use of the Greek Septuagint.   By forcing Jews to go back to using the Greek scriptures only, the Deuterocanonicals would be relegated to a position of being lower than scripture and lose their power and force as justification for the continued revolt by the zealots, and by elevating  the Hebrew version over this Greek version, they substituted, as scripture, the less clear, more ambiguous wording in the prophecy of the virgin birth.

Then, because Greek was still thelingua franca of the day, they created a new Greek translation of the scriptures, this time, containing only the books found to be written in Hebrew.

However, this did not have a great deal of force on Jewish populations, and there was argument about this course of action that lasted for 500 years.  And groups, such as the Ethiopian Jews never did pay it any heed and still use the Septuagint today.

When the first canons of scripture were settled on in the late 4th and early 5th centuries by Church councils, the Deuterocanonicals were included.  It was not until Luther that any one removed them from the canon of Christian scripture.  And then his decision did not have any effect on the majority of christians in the world.

So the answer to your question is the scriptures used with the jailor were the Septuagint scriptures, which contains, in the Book of Wisdom, one of the most clearest, detailed prophecies of Jesus' passion and death in all of scripture:

Wisdom 2:12-24

11 Let our might be the yardstick of right, since weakness argues its own futility.

12 Let us lay traps for the upright man, since he annoys us and opposes our way of life, reproaches us for our sins against the Law, and accuses us of sins against our upbringing.

13 He claims to have knowledge of God, and calls himself a child of the Lord.

14 We see him as a reproof to our way of thinking, the very sight of him weighs our spirits down;

15 for his kind of life is not like other people's, and his ways are quite different.

16 In his opinion we are counterfeit; he avoids our ways as he would filth; he proclaims the final end of the upright as blessed and boasts of having God for his father.

17 Let us see if what he says is true, and test him to see what sort of end he will have.

\18 For if the upright man is God's son, God will help him and rescue him from the clutches of his enemies.

19 Let us test him with cruelty and with torture, and thus explore this gentleness of his and put his patience to the test.

20 Let us condemn him to a shameful death since God will rescue him -- or so he claims.'

21 This is the way they reason, but they are misled, since their malice makes them blind.

22 They do not know the hidden things of God, they do not hope for the reward of holiness, they do not believe in a reward for blameless souls.

23 For God created human beings to be immortal, he made them as an image of his own nature;

24 Death came into the world only through the Devil's envy, as those who belong to him find to their cost.

Undoubtedly this passage would have been a prophecy of scripture used by the apostles.

Should we not be using the same today?

The Pope seems to know more about the world than about the Christian faith and the Bible.  When he comments on the latter, for which he is supposed to be infallible, he gets it wrong and is corrected by the authorities in church doctrine.  After all, he told us that good atheists will go to heaven.  He does seem to be making poor choices.  The blind leading the blind, yet, as stated above, he thinks he can see.  How sad a state for so many people to be led into deeper darkness.  He seems to be leaning toward liberation theology, which the Catholic church has already condemned as a Marxist cult.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
