2 Corinthians 5:1–8 (NASB95)

1 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven,

3 inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked.

4 For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life.

5 Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.

6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord—

7 for we walk by faith, not by sight—

8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

Romans 8:23 (NASB95)

23 And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

1 Corinthians 5:5 (NASB95)

5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

John do you not know and earnestly request an answer or is there something else motivating the question?  Thank you in advance for an open and honest answer to my question that I may know how to answer you!

The first two mean that we are anticipating a physical resurrection.

The third one isn't about resurrection as such but about salvation.

1.  We know as saints that if we should die and go by way of the grave we have the hope of a new body a glorified body to live in for all eternity.  The body we have now is currently growing old and feeble it is withering away as time keeps going by and it will eventually die a physical death.  The saints have a blessed promise of getting a new glorified body at the resurrection and coming of Christ where that new body will never ever know sickness, pain, diseases, sorrow, nor death ever again our very tears will be wiped away by God Himself,    Our new bodies will never be continually growing old like it does in this life as we will have right to the tree of life.  As I have grown older in my body age has made me groan for a new body.  Scripture tells us that "we came naked into this world and naked we will go out"  But we shall be clothed again with a new glorified body to live in for all eternity that death cannot touch.  What a blessed promise.

2.  Christ purchased our earthly bodies on the cross as saints we literally belong to God as we also have been made the sons of God we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit as one of his own.  As saints we are eagerly awaiting his return and the redemption of our earthly bodies to wit or come to pass at the first resurrection of the righteous dead when the righteous dead will be resurrected first and receive their redemption of their bodies to take place getting their new body first.  Then those who are alive and remain on the earth at that time will be changed and given their glorified bodies in the moment of a twinkling of an eye.  This is what we are waiting on to happen  the redemption or resurrection of our bodies to take place

3.  This verse of scripture is from the passage where it teaches the church should NOT allow people in the church to remain if they are in any kind of sexual immorality any type of sex outside of marriage.  The church is instructed to put such people out of the church in the hope they will come to repentance and be restored to right fellowship with Christ body.  Again our bodies belong to Christ and we should NOT take the temple of God and join it with idols.

Begging your pardon, but this is all commentary without scripture citation. Commentary [can] be true when it aligns with cited scriptures (the Holy Spirit-interpretation of which defines whether it is true or not).

I cited scripture. Commented little.

Hi John, but to be fair Openly Curious was answering your question regarding these passages in their own understanding. Since you had already cited the passages you had questions about, I really see no need to have them recited again. Love you all !

God's plan of salvation includes the redemption and perfection of our bodies, our souls, and our spirits.  Our bodies will be redeemed or perfected into glorious spiritual bodies at the Resurrection/Rapture.  Bodies are the houses (or tabernacles) for souls and spirits and will remain immortal after they are transformed.

When Paul spoke of the "destruction of the flesh" in connection with a sinning brother, he was referring to the ravaging of the physical body by probably some kind of disease, so that this man would be punished in his body, yet his soul and spirit would be safe. And ultimately this man would also be resurrected in a glorious spiritual body.  The Bible teaches that Christians who persist in sin can expect physical penalties, including premature death.

Well JohnD I'm having to beg your pardon.  Because you asked the question in the title of your thread "What do these three passages indicate"?  You asked for the meaning of the three passages of scripture in your OP you did not ask for scripture references only.

What part of my reply does not align up with the scriptures you gave.  You commented nothing just cited scripture.  Makes me question why you want to know if you really don't.

Because "Flesh And Blood Can Not INHERIT The Kingdom Of God" (?)

Our flesh is Redeemed (bought back) in the Adoption as sons of God. (animal sacrifices being for 'the purification of the flesh')

- Going into heaven with-in Resurrected flesh which will be changed.

- And, those who are not Resurrected, but Raptured 'The Great Multitude' will wash their Robes White In The Blood Of The Lamb.  (6th Seal)

Israel already had eternal-spiritual salvation. As John & Jesus came preaching repentance for the remission of sins; no death of Jesus needed.

But Israel would not accept that their flesh could live in heaven too. As not even all of Israel believed there was a Resurrection or spirits or Angels or life after death of the flesh.

So Jesus came to show them God as their Father, Redeeming their flesh by His blood in exchange He bought their flesh back as before the fall.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
