Good questions, i also like to think about the extreme when asking questions..

I heard some-one say, (which i like! ) that "God is a better forgiver than we are sinners"..I personally can't stay angry or hold grudges for long, which is great, but it makes me realize how much more our Heavenly Father forgives us...hard to imagine being a Christian that murders or is a pedophile though, but then we are not God..

Maybe Alcohol addiction like any addiction can be viewed as being oppressed by the enemy, and as such we need to seek God to renew our minds and refresh our souls..

James 2:10  " For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all."

I guess your question is more about someone who used to be a christian. Is he still saved even when he turned away from God? Can we loose our salvation? 

There are different opinions about that. I encourage you to seek the reasons why he turned away from God and start working from there. 

They need help and only the God can set them free.  Yes then can be a Christian.  When they hand over           their lives God can handle the rest.  I praise God for His Mercy and Grace that knows no bounds.  We are free in Christ through our faith in Him.

All through the stories of the lives  of those who lived in the old and new testament, they are stories about men women who where sinners until God changed them.

Now it is written that sin is sin no matter how big or small all sins have the sin factor  =actions that lead to separation from God.

 

Now how many sins exist?  many

Now how to say a murderer is worse than an alcoholic or the same in terms of sin?

And addiction is something that has gone askew in the persons life and has taken control of that person to the point where that person has a week resolve of their own to stop.

Be it alcohol, drugs, overheating, bulimia, anorexia, gambling,sexual distortions... these -sins of the flesh and against the well being of the flesh and soul are very big problems in our society, they are recognized today by psychiatry as mental disorders and also there are recovery programs geared to help the person addicted to stop.

Aside from various programs available to get a person to recover from their addictions, there exist also the A.A. addiction program that also places an importance of there also being a spiritual component involved in the problem of addiction as well as a spiritual SOLUTION to the same problem of addiction.

Now in Lab tests, they have shown how they can get mice addicted to certain things, so getting addicted to substance is also a very possible outcome in an animal or human given the circumstance.

 

Now as for murder? yes it is also a sin . Is it the same as an addiction?

I have yet to see a murder anonymous group meeting that is geared to keep people from killing other people.

But actually maybe there should be one.

 

But there are MANY forms or WAYS you can murder someone. You can murder someones soul by corrupting it through the violation of God given moral character

through

-neglect

-sexual abuse/physical

- child abuse

- verbal abuse

 

Many having been conditioned away from God given moral character by these practices.

And the result is soul killing by conditioning from the abuse.

 

to find relief from the abusive conditioning , people  either look to God strait away for help

or are even more duped to find their relief from their painful conditioning through various means, such as : Alcohol, drugs,overeating, bulimia, anorexia, gambling, sexual distortion.

And through those relief methods away from God, these same can also in extreme cases lead to murder of themselves or someone else or a group of people.

 

In order to stop such deviance;

The person must come to the realization that they do have a problem and that their lives have become unmanageable and that they need help.

 

If a person does not come to the realization that they need help, they may very well die in there sin.

 

But if a person is SEEKING God, they have come to a realization that their lives are askew and need to be changed, de-conditioned from abusive ways-sin-

and re-conditioned to God loving ways.

This is a process, that usually takes time, but will happen as long as the person is striving to SEEKING GODS WILL over their own on a daily basis.

 

Can a murderer by set free from the desire to kill? With God all things are possible.

Can an addiction to alcohol, drugs, overheating, bulimia, anorexia, gambling,sexual distortions be set free ? With God ALL things are possible.

 

To become a practicing christian we need to be RE-conditioned  AWAY from the conditioning of the world.

It all comes down to sin conditioning and getting free from sin conditioning and BECOMING a new child in Christ, step by step through God conditioning through having a living daily relationship with Him and seeking His WORD for direction to God conditioning.

 

Addictions to self through  alcohol,  drugs, overheating, bulimia, anorexia, gambling,sexual distortions, 

harms and kills fast or slowly, the person addicted as well as slowly kills/harms the people involved in their lives.

So the term murderer is really applicable for everyone involved in any particular sin.

 

SIN = anything that leads to eventual death

satan is a murderer, his purpose is to steal, kill, destroy.(and he wants you to become just like him)

 

sin in us makes us also do satans work also towards others.

we the victims of sin without Gods help for rescue and redemption,

we than become from being victims to abusers, perpetrators of sin onto others.

And without Gods help this sin nature continues onwards from one person to another.

sin is part of this world system, and without God involved in our hearts and lives, we just fall to this world

and away from Gods true purpose for our lives.

 

There  IS a Solution

WE NEED TO START SOMEWHERE

It begins by taking the first step in the Right direction

If you go right, you can't go wrong.

By making the decision to be willing to walk in the right direction the sinner is given the opportunity to repent to God, and ask God through His plan of Mercy and Grace to come make a home in his/her heart.

When this is done in sincerity of heart, God comes into the persons heart and begins the working process of making this person into a new creation by the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God now working in that person.

We are ALL guilty of sin, what we do with it, determines the final outcome of our destiny.

Jacob was no angel until he finally let go of self and let God lead his way.

But God was always waiting patiently for Jacob.

God had great plans for Jacob =Israel

God has great plans for every sinner willing to let go of self and let God be ruler of their lives.

Yes a Christian can be an alcoholic. As long as we are in this flesh we will struggle in the flesh. Look at Noah, did he not get drunk? Did that negate his covenant with Yahweh? No it did not. Many people drink and some to excess. Many people eat to excess, etc. We are our brother's keeper and when we help each other out we lift each other up and build one another and strengthen each other with exhortations, encouragements. AA was initially started as a Christian group from the Oxford Group to get people to pray to GOD to help them. Now it is a god of ones own understanding. That contradicts Proverbs 3:5-7; lean not unto thine own understanding. It is good for like minded people yet nothing can substitute the Living Word of Yahweh that sets the captive free. There is hope for all of us while on this earth, and in this flesh. Why? Cause it is not based on us it is the gift of Grace and Mercy that we rely upon to help us be more than conquerers. Did not Yahshua say if thy brother sin against thee how many times shall you forgive  him? And he said 70 x 7... endless... if he said this then he knew we would never be perfect in this life. Can an alcoholic be Christian? Yes. Christians are not perfect, they are sinners like anyone else. God calls everyone regardless of their imperfections and sins to serve and even a self-professed holy man can stumble and struggle with the faith and still yet be Christian. Sounds like your pastor needs a lesson in Christianity.

God will forgive any addiction as long as we seek help, get clean, get sober, repent and keep away from it.

If we don't, if were too lazy, or think its too hard, or say, "I will one day,"  and die a drunkard God has this to say to us;

1 Cor. 6:9-10,

V. 9 "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

V. 10, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor DRUNKARDS, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

Its up to us. We shall not be dominated by anything!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
