David took his "best men" to reclaim the Ark, but apparently he didn't take any that knew not to touch it.  They carried it wrong in the first place.  It was supposed to be carried by poles so that even the particular family in the Levite tribe who was in charge of transport wouldn't even touch it.

After Uzzah died, David - who apparently didn't have enough sense himself to know what to do - gets mad and leaves it there.

This is an example of how we may THINK we know how to approach God - with our version of pomp and circumstance - but if we don't approach God with appropriate reverence - we had best think again.
