well you know what they say "admitting you have a problem is half the battle

The title of this thread fails to do justice to the "new creature in Christ".  While it is true that the old sinful nature has not been eradicated completely, many give "the flesh" more credit than it deserves.

The indwelling Holy Spirit + the written Word of God gives every believer the POWER TO OVERCOME every sinful tendency. But we must believe it.  If we believe we have "a mental problem" or " a spiritual problem" then that is exactly what we will have.  But it we believe we are overcomers through the blood of Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit, then we will be overcomers.

this can be described as "a mental issue" you have too, dear....
a way of wrong thinking, that the Lord will also perfect in you....
and you are not alone, of course....

Wrong

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Proverbs 18:21 (English Standard Version)

Thinking

There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18 (English Standard Version)

Accusing The Brethren

Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends. Proverbs 17:9 (English Standard Version)

And The Sisters Too

The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45 (English Standard Version)

Shame~!

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Colossians 3:8 (English Standard Version)

aren't you accusing me right now Joe? is it "shame" for you also, or just for me?
aren't you 'thinking' right now that post is 'thinking' wrongly -- that he has an issue in his mentality? but you are not bold enough to come out and say it?
are you ashamed? or unsure. :)

have you read:

"
My brothers and sisters, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring that person back . . " . . ?

what kwik said was wrong. it was a lie. we are not "what we speak" -- i showed her that through scripture. if she thinks this way, that's a problem; it does not come from God: He is not the author of lies & confusion.
kwik is no fool, so far as i know - i am sure she will ponder this in her heart and find what is the truth.

the context of this entire thread is that we all have wrong ways of thinking that we must consider ourselves crucified to:
"mental issues" that we should mortify.
that ain't a comfortable 'thought' is it?

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world

(John 16:33)

take heart; the One who we have entrusted our care to is willing, able and ready to perfect us in every way.
& the bill is already paid, to boot!

Problems are always going to arise as long as we live on this earth.

14 hours ago, Ezra said:

The one who says and believes and acts upon the truth that "I can do all things THROUGH CHRIST which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13).

exactly -- Christ alone.

because the One who acts is Christ -- we can do all things THROUGH HIM. it is His strength, not ours.
because He is perfect, we are able to overcome all of our own problems through Him

it is also as you alluded to,

in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
(Romans 8:37)

not of ourselves. not of our strength. not of our cleverness. by Him, for Him, through Him!
the "strength" or "ability" of a believer is not his or her own, but belonging to and originating in another: because we have died, and no longer live, but Christ lives in us, and we submit to His life (re: Galatians 2:20, etc).
so it is said, "
we have the mind of Christ" -- not that "our minds are equal to Christ's
therefore "let this mind be in you, which is also in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5)
- making ourselves of no reputation.
for who can boast?
no one -- there is exactly One who is worthy of praise,
 all praise!

amen! i am so glad you agree with me on all this, Ezra -- in the past i've often felt like you kind of go out of your way to oppose whatever i say, because you did not love me, even when i spoke the truth.  :)

thanks be to Christ, through which we have unity!
